I have 17 consecutive profitable trades of 15% or better. How is this possible? Every day there are hundreds of stocks setting new highs, no matter what happens in the overall market. Many of these stocks are still at very reasonable valuations. Afraid of buying stocks at their highs? Think of it this way: a new high is really a future floor for companies with solid financial underpinnings. Quantitative momentum modeling makes it easy to identify stocks that can continue this upward momentum trend. Why does this happen? It's really very simple..ask me about what investors and cows have in common. I am $$$ MR. MARKET $$$. I AM HUGE!!! Bring me your finest meats and cheeses. You can join in on the fun. Default PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, Oct 21, 2022

Whoops, I think I missed last week’s update and didn’t even realize it. Sorry about that. Please forgive me, but at my age I’m lucky if I can remember where I live. Hmmm … I’m not even sure I am typing this in my home. Maybe that’s why the weird stranger next to me on the sofa is staring so intently. OK, back to the PotY contest. Over the last two weeks there, there was a little upward movement in the Dow, but the NASDAQ and S&P stayed in a sideways consolidation after a big dip. The result was a shakeup at the top of the PotY standing. BillyJoe’s UTHR remains our leader and the only pick in the green. In second place is Massimo’s IPA, which had a very strong performance last week. In third is Mr. Market’s TLPPF, which has been on a wild ride and whose chart looks like a sine wave. Congrats to our new leaders.

As for where we go from here, all three indices seems to be breaking out of their regression channels on the daily charts, but on the weekly charts the indices still look bearish. Personally, I am still skeptical about a sustained market move up because of the current economic situation. For example, while I was paying for my $7 per gallon gas and munching out of a $6 bad of Cheetos, I heard someone on radio saying that the annual deficit is going to be in excess of $1.4 trillion this year. That means the fed will be printing more money and lots of bonds will need to be sold. With interest rates rising, the cost of servicing those bonds is going to be a major drain on the federal budget in the future. This will further increase future deficits and on and on it goes. So excuse me for being skeptical, but I don’t think the bear is ready to go into hibernation just yet. We’ll see.

Well, the big story this week is the blistering move by BillyJoe’s UTHR. As Frank Zappa would say, “Great Googely Moogely!” UTHR, our long term leader, and only consistently green pick now has a comfortable lead that will be hard to overtake. Congrats BillyJoe on a most excellent pick. In second, is Mr. Market’s TLPPF followed by Jiesen’s QDEL. I think at this point, especially with the holidays approaching, it’s just going to be a jostle for second and third, but we shall see. Stay tuned fellow pickers, and just remember that you gotta start young if you’re gonna stick it out.

I wonder if any stock has traded for a negative value on an exchange, the way barrels of crude oil have.

Default PotY Contest Standings As of Market Close, Nov 18, 2022

I apologize for not posting last week, but I’m back to make up for it and bring the latest in bad news. Since the middle of Oct, the Dow has made a pretty impressive run to the upside. The NASDAQ and the S&P? Not so much. The NASDAQ, in particular, continues to hurt and has only managed a modest sideways consolidation during the Dow’s run. Hence, tech stocks, for the most part, have continued to fair poorly. How has all this effected our standings? Not a whole lot. BillyJoe’s stalwart UTHR remains our leader and Mr. Market’s TLPPF continues to hold down second. Antioch’s Dad’s AAPL moved back into third place. Only UTHR is in the green and beating all three indices. It’s coming down to the finish, so if any of our laggards decide to make a big move, it better be soon. I won’t hold my breath.
