Rules for Pick of The Year (PoTY) 2017
Happy New Year!
I was not planning to do Pick of The Year (PoTY) 2017. Several people requested that we continue.
I cannot guarantee a timely monthly update. If we are OK with this.
OK. Let us do it. Let us keep it simple as before.
Discard this line ========>Let us change it up and your picks must be ten dollars or greater.<======
You have until the end of January up to 11:59 PM PST to make a pick - starting price will be the closing price, (per Yahoo, unless it's shown that the Yahoo price is incorrect) the last trading day of January. Any stock trading on the NASDAQ, AMEX or NYSE is fair game, long or short.
We welcome IPOs if picked by the end of January and starting price will be the closing price of the IPO.
Picks submitted after January are welcome, but comes with a 20% penalty of the closing price.
Discussions and concerns are welcome. Good Luck!

Reason: Keeping it simple. That is all.

Natch, we all appreciate your efforts. Do the best you can.

Thank you for running this again.
I think we should make it over $5 rather than $10. Here is a link to Kiplinger for 8 stocks under $10 that has a few pretty good names. If the goal is largest gain in 11 months, looking at more speculative stocks (and therefore lower priced) seems to me to make sense.

Thanks for running it again. I'm looking forward to participating!
Math doesn't lie, but people do.

If you look at the entry prices from 2016 - 4 of the eventual top 5 stocks were below $10.

This must be some kind of Socialist argument - why would anyone want to disallow WINNING stocks?

I wouldn’t call JohnHenry a socialist, but rather, he having graciously offered to do the POTY again, the benevolent dictator of the game. I just tried to see some sense in his proposal. I am fine with it, and if he changes his mind about it, I will be fine with the change too.
