Investing with 10k or less

How many stocks would you buy if you are just starting and have 10k or less? I own 4 right now and have a little less than 10k invested what do you think? Is that too many or too few? Thanks alot.

I've got around 10k as well and usually hold about 4 @ 2k a piece w/ 2k cash for anything that really screams buy.
