Interestingly, this is the third time the Parlux CEO has said he wanted to take the company private. A previous attempt failed at $4/share because of an inability to finance the deal. Another fishy small-cap story. Should be interesting to see how it plays out.

Rob,
I'd like to COVER ESCL at the open and switch to a SHORT position in PARL please.
Thanks Much,
Jon
I'd like to COVER ESCL at the open and switch to a SHORT position in PARL please.Bo, you'll have to talk New-born Baby into covering his PARL short first, as is shown on the positions post (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/showpost.php?p=53049).
Unless I hear different by the open, I will consider that you are still short ESCL.

Rob,

They just announced that PARL and PEIX are merging to form good smelling ethanol. The best part is you can short the stock or go long and make money either way.

Err, still confused. I was or was not allowed to switch? If not, I guess I'll just stay put.Sorry, Bo, I thought it was clear. No, you were not allowed to switch, because at the time of your post New-born Baby was still short PARL. And like I said, your attempt to switch was thereby nullified, and your short position in ESCL remained.
Just for everyone's information, here's the deal: being the scorekeeper for this contest is not easy. It's difficult enough to keep up with it as it is, without starting to make provisions for: if thus-and-so happens, then I'm doing this or that. As long as I remain temporary scorekeeper, the lid on that can of worms shall remain tighter than a banjo string.

Well I've never gotten a whiff of ethanol, but I like the smell of gasoline. Has anyone here smelled ethanol? If so, how would you describe its smell? Billy, maybe it already smells better than P.H.
We have an ethanol plant just a mile from the church. Makes the entire town smell like a brewery. Don't you know what 'corn liquor' is? It's whiskey. Ethanol is pure whiskey. They add 5% gasoline to the product before loading it into railroad cars to keep people from drinking the stuff.

Not much time today, folks ...
BoSox's ESCL short escalated to new heights. Alice's NIHD short will not be de-NIHD (read "denied"). And Jiesen "xinged" into 3rd with a well-timed bail on his XING position. Congrats, all!

Corn liquor is not whiskey.... Yet whiskey is made from corn liquor. Ethanol is not whiskey nor is it liquor. AND a brewery smells nothing like a distillery. If the town smells like a brewery it may be because people there like to drink a LOT of beer. Some people drink rubbing alcohol but it ain't whiskey either.
I notice HOM is up about 15½% on the day right now.

Only 11 more straight days of 100 point gains and all our problems will be over. Would have been 10 if we'd have hit 200 today.
-----billyjoe
Once again, BoSox is the cat's pajamas! Even though he lost a little ground in points, he still sits at the head of the class!
Lyehopper moves into 3rd with CEDC (a stock I turned him onto) :) but didn't pick up quite enough momo to surpass Jiesen in 2nd place. Of course, Jiesen's got no more ammo this week. Gettin' a little nervous there, Jiesen ol' buddy, ol' pal?
The rest of those with positive finishes are: the Peanut Man, Sticky, the Q, Runner, Alice B. Toklas, Gator-dude, and Darth Vader's 3rd cousin 10x removed, Spikefader. Yes, things are definitely looking up, and Jiesen is no longer the only long on the plus side.
Another wonderful day for the markets. Let's see, how many is that? Oy yeah, two in a row!

Thanks Doug. Real simple to set up if you ever wanna do it. Download unfreez.exe from http://www.whitsoftdev.com/unfreez/ and then drag and drop in whatever .gif images you want and set the frame delay (not sure what the unit cs is..maybe call seconds?? but 100 is a pretty good number) then click "make animated gif" and bingo, you've got a scrolling gif. Imageshack takes them and links the usual way.

Peanuts, I believe you, and I feel for you, dude, but there's no way I can log the price sooner than the timestamp on your post. Next thing you know there would be chaos. And trust me, sometimes it's plenty chaotic enough just trying to keep up with it the way it is.
And it's BoSox Jon for the gold! Even though he lost a little ground trying to put the moves on us with MOVE, his earlier HUGE gains on ESCL were enough to put him over the top! Good play this week, Big Bo!
Ol' Ray must've held his tongue juuuust right as he masterfully gripped that dart, squinted one eyeball, and zeroed in on the target this week, 'cause he came up with a HUGE winner in MIKR! Rock 'n' roll, Ray!
Ol' Jiesen hung onto 3rd with that zinger, XING, and is awarded the bronze this week. Well done, Jiesen old bean! (Psst ... nobody tell him this, but he'd have won the whole deal if he'd held onto XING. It'll be our li'l secret.)

Also, I must congratulate Rob on the outstanding domination of the Q2 average, as well as the continual amazing performance as scorekeeper!
I do wish I'd have held on longer to that XING position. 12% in 2 hours was just too good a deal to pass up, though. Usually, after a pop like that XING will fall back pretty quick. Maybe it's different this time though...

Sometimes cash is king... with your dominating lead of over 0.5%, I'd say there's a slim chance of anyone catching you, if you can resist the urge to trade out of $$ for two weeks. Nothing says domination these days more than sitting in cash, right? Just ask Billy G and Warren B.
A deficit of 0.58% can be overcome more easily than you might think. For instance, if I go down 2.79% again next week, as I did last week, number two, Gary, would only need to gain 3.6% to retake the lead. If I sit in cash, Gary would only need 6.5% next week, or 3.23% in each of the next two weeks to do it. We've both seen that stooge play, and we both know that when he gets on a roll, he can blow those numbers away. Besides, he might have gone out and got him another bottle of Brite-o, in which case, we're all toast anyway.

The Stock Girl leads off the 25th week of the year handily by shorting Steel Dynamics (STLD) and picking up a healthy gain of 4.51%! Take your winnings, Stock Girl, and buy you some solid food to put some meat on them bones.
I was right pleased with the way ImClone (IMCL) held up today in an otherwise down market. It treated me good to the tune of 2.96%. I'll take it!
Third place this evening is held by the One Who Hops in Lye, with a one-two punch of a short on AK Steel (AKS) (a pretty good play, if you aks me) and then a long on Cerus Corp. (CERS), them people who market a system called INTERCEPT, which is "designed to enhance the safety of donated blood components." Even though the "two" part of the ol' one-two hurt 'im just a bit, the AKS play had enough change left over to leave 'im with a total of 1.82%!
Gator-dude, Doug & Dio round out the rest of the gainers today. Congrats, all!

Peanuts, I was unable to find any shortable shares of PFACP. Anybody?
This brings up a question. The rules to this contest, which, as far as I know, were written by Lyehopper, state that if someone wishes to short a stock, there must actually be shares available to short.
Does anyone have a simple method of determining whether there are shares of a given stock available to short? What is it?

Rob, I could not find any shares to short either, so I guess you can drop that trade. However, I would still like make a trade out of NSSC. Please sell that and now I will be long on GV. Thanks... I'll be sure to check whether a stock is shortable through TD-Ameritrade prior to trying that again.
Chuck Norris is bringing a lawsuit against NBC for the use of "Law and Order"... apparently, he has copyrighted those names for his right and left legs.
Peanuts, I went ahead and gave you the 12:00 price on the NSSC sale. Here's why: I have to admit that I haven't been checking for availability on shares people short in this contest, mainly because I forgot about that rule. I was reminded of it the other morning when Websman retracted his short on MSO, stating that he couldn't find any available shares.
Since I very rarely short anything, I haven't much experience with it. The few times I've played anything short, there were plenty of shares available, and finding them wasn't a problem. This is why I posed the question earlier about a good method to determine whether shares are available. Unless there is an easy-to-use, unimpeachable method of doing this, I see no alternative but to disallow shorting in the contest altogether (as long as I'm the temporary scorekeeper anyway).
p.s. Billy Jack will walk through any crack alley in the U.S. at 2:00 a.m. without fear.

you don't have to do that, Rob! you can modify the rules to suit your scorekeeping needs by either
1) allowing all short trades (only a very few really can't be shorted, and you know there are still hedge funds getting around this anyway)
2) setting other more easily verifiable criteria besides whether the shares are available, i.e. minimum average volume and/or latest short interest data, or avg days to cover.
just my suggestion, as there are undoubtedly better ways to do it.
Due to circumstances beyond my control the scorecard will be posted later than usual this evening. Until then, try to exercise a little self-control. I'll give you one clue though: The Stock Girl has fallen from her lofty position. Sorry, The Stock Girl, it's just a plain fact. :(

As we round the third bend on the course, IIC moves up two bloody places and pulls into the lead with Abaxis, Inc. (ABAX), not to be confused with Abraxas, an ancient Egyptian demon-god, or Santana's 2nd LP, released in 1970 with such memorable hits as Oye Como Va (translation: "Hey How's It Going") and Black Magic Woman. Abaxis makes portable systems for blood analysis.
Moving up three bloody slots to number two is Mr. fuzzy crosshairs, shoot-from-the-hip himself, Lyehopper. His 2nd play of the week, Cerus Corp. (CERS) also makes products associated with blood. What is this, vampire week or something? Vampires suck.
Jumping eight bloody places today is your favorite reptile and mine, Gatorman. The Gator-dude cast his lot this week with a company called Bio-Reference Laboratories, Inc. (BRLI). Now BRLI provides clinical testing services, which assist docs in the diagnosis and treatment of various disorders. What do they test? Among other things, as you might have guessed ... blood!
That rounds out the bloody top three so far. So now that I've "spilled" the news, do you feel "pumped" up? Or are you feeling a deficiency of iron? A little "clotted" perhaps? Not enough oxygen to the grey matter? Maybe you don't care and are just going to "coagulate" in front of your new "plasma" TV until your eyes are "bloodshot." I got a gal who's mighty sweet
Big blue eyes and tiny feet
Her name is Rosabelle Magee
And she tips the scales at three-oh-three
Oh, gee, but ain't it grand to have a gal so big and fat
That when you go to hug her, you don't know where you're at
You have to take a piece of chalk in your hand
And hug a ways and chalk a mark to see where you began
One day I was a-huggin' and a-chalkin' and a-chalkin' and a-huggin' away
When I met another fella with some chalk in his hand
A-comin' around the other way over the mountain
A-comin' around the other way
<instrumental interlude>
Nobody ever said I'm weak
My bones don't ache, my joints don't creak
But I grow pale and I get limp
Every time I see my baby blimp
Oh, gee, but ain't it grand to have a gal so big and fat
That when you go to hug her
(You don't know where you're at)
(You have to take a piece of chalk in your hand)
(And hug a bit and chalk a mark to see where you began)
One day I was a-huggin' and a-chalkin' and a-beggin' her to be my bride
When I met another fella with some chalk in his hand
A-comin' around the other side (over the mountain)
A-comin' around the other side
She's a mile wide!

For example, if you go to that link above and type NFLX in the search box, it seems to come up as shortable. But then if you click the link just underneath the results, the one that says "US stocks that are not shortable (Regulatory restrictions)" MFLX is also included on the list of unshortable stocks. Can someone demystify this a little? Thanks.

There's still a little confusion on locating shortable stocks. Spike gave me a link to Interactive Brokers (http://www.interactivebrokers.com/en/trading/SearchShortableStocks.php?cntry=usa&tag=UnitedStates&ib_entity=llc&ln=) (thanks, Spike) but I'm not sure I fully understand how to interpret the results provided there. For example, if you go to that link above and type NFLX in the search box, it seems to come up as shortable. But then if you click the link just underneath the results, the one that says "unshortable sotcks" (or words to that efect) MFLX is also included on the list of unshortable stocks. Can someone demystify this a little? Thanks.
perhaps it'd help if you type the ticker you actually mean.
just messin' with ya rob! :)
Thanks a LOT, Jiesen. Don't know what I'd do without your help.;)
Anyway, I think I got it figured out now. Evidently, even if there are some regulatory restrictions on certain securities, there may be extenuating circumstances that allow the stock to be shorted anyhow.
Truthfully, your avatar is not appealing to me. I am not attracted by that kind of worldly looking woman. I was poking fun at IIC pretending to have Stock Girl over for dinner . . . or more directly, I did not think it was a good thing that one would say "my wife is gone, I am having another woman over to my house for supper." It is not right.

Bakker: Yes.

That about covers the plus side for today, but I have just a couple other observations. The Stock Girl's STLD short is still dynamic as it picked up a bit of ground today, and meanwhile it looks like Webs pulled a boner with FONR. I sold OII too soon, only off by half a buck but still it wasn’t good thinking on my part.
This is paper trading but I still panic when I saw the Dow and the stock heading south early this morning.
How do I know when to sell when trading for a short period? Any ideas anyone? Thanks
Sticky, no one really "knows" when to sell. My opinion is that everyone develops their own "style" of selling based on their experience in the school of hard knocks. I've had a few stocks in the past that I managed to sell at precisely the right moment, and that's stock market nirvana. But I've also had some that I sold either wayyyyy too early or at precisely the wrong time. (That's one of the reasons I'm so stubbornly hanging onto IMCL.) I'm sure there are many here with far more trading experience than what I've got.
One thing I like about Ernie's model is that he sets exact sell points. Like when he says, "I will sell in 4 to 6 weeks for $nn.nn," even down to the penny. Personally I think he would prosper even more by setting trailing stops under those babies when they hit the target, but I can't prove it. Well, one could back test that theory, but I've never taken the time.

It's what is meant when you hear some of us talking about a pre-arranged strategy for the trade that is formulated before the trigger is ever pulled. First you must have a discipline or a trading strategy. Are you a short, intermediate, or long term holder of you positions. You have to know what type of trading you want to do to understand that statement. Develope your strategies around that premise. Know where you want to enter, the risk vs the reward percentages, and how much you will tolerate losing before exiting the trade. You should also have some idea of where you think the stock will move to and when that is realized you have to take your gains and move on to the next one. The problem is that most retail investors have no idea of how to run the trade or what their parameters within the trade are to start with. When the position is up they are estatic and when the trade is going south they lose control of their emotions and control of the trade at that moment. It's not easy to develope all of this and be in control of all the facets at once. It's going to be a bouncy road until this type of plan and control is developed and implemented into all of your trades. The odds are definitely higher that most investors will never come to this level of sophistication in their trading and will continue to hear people, who have achieved this level and try to pass it on to others, say the same things over an over about what must be done regarding planning your trades and strategies. Yet they never seem to absorb the concept and continue to flounder never catching their trades at precisely the best moments for entry or exits. Nothing is written in stone or will happen precisely as you would expect it or plan for it to happen but without a concrete set of rules and strategies in place there is no chance of continued and repeated success over the long term.
One thing is certain. Always take your gains when you have them. Only after learning how to control your emotions and to take your gains when you have them will you be able to control how to take some of your gains off the table and to protect the remaining position with trailing stops or hedges. You will never hurt yourself taking your profits. Only when you have the gains in your hands and then let them slip away to be left with a loss does the pain and confusion really set in. Once you have taken the profit and have it in your account you have a multitude of options to think about plus your account is larger and you can do more. If you give the gains back or take a loss then you know the rest of the story well enough.
Just the smell of the suds are enough at others I have to at least fill one leg, however the way I have been doing maybe I have not been reaching the amount needed to reach the optimum accuracy?l

The past has shown that when you get the correct ratio of suds to darts, the markets seem to respond positively. Here's hoping for a return to those "good 'ol days" soon.
think anyone really paid any attention to my throws. That means I'm going to Improve my perfomance
New-born Baby takes the gold medal for the first time this year! Way to go, New! You picked about the optimal selling point this week! You smelled something a tad askew with Parlux Fragrances, which wasn't exactly fragrant, and you made that short pay off!
But Cerus-ly, folks, the newest TV star in town, even bigger than Charles E. Cullen the "Chicken Man," is the one who takes 2nd place this week: Lyehopper snags the silver! (That's "plata" for those of you from south of the border who no hablan inglés.)
Ol' Douggie cha-chinged his XING yesterday morning, landing him in the third slot with the bronze medal this week. Nice play, Doug! (even if holding would have given you a greater return)
The whole story is there to see. You don't need me rambling on, ad nauseum, to see what's going on. But congrats to the whole gang of active players who cumulatively racked up a positive score for the first time in three weeks!

Check out the instructions (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/misc.php?do=bbcode#imgcode) on their use.
Alternatively, you could activate the WYSIWYG editor from you User Control Panel. (Click "Edit Options" and scroll all the way down to the bottom of the options page.) There's a tool on there activated by a button that looks like a picture. Experiment. Have fun.
Just keep any graphics to less than 700 pixels in width to avoid layout problems.

don't want to nitpick, but shouldn't the picks still be valid if they come in at 4:00pm? Trading is still happening in the last minute, and the rules say you have until the market closes at 4:00... besides, any other minute you can get the opening price of it, why not the last one?
Jiesen, no, because when the bell goes ring-a-ding-ding at 4:00, the market is closed. If somebody enters a pick at 4:00:01 p.m. that's too late. See?

This is true, but don't forget that the majority of the population of Miami speaks Spanish. The difference is that California is mostly Mexican while Miami is Cuban. I've found that most Cubans will get offended if you confuse them as being Mexican or vice versa.

Here are the K-data (based on previous 13 weeks of POTW) results for weeks 13-25. It's ranked by "special K", or Cumulative Gain (%) / Weeks played.

Looks like DMK is going out in style... Jim Smith and Dakat have fallen off due to inactivity, but Dakat is clawing his way back to the top, no doubt. DMK why have you left us? With an average gain of 7% each week, you were HUGE!!!
Also of note is that the 20 highest ranked are coincidentally the most active players of the POTW. And no, Rob and I are NOT rigging the scores.

Rob, I enjoy your commentary. The tone on this forum has been somewhat stale as of late and I think many are simply just not bothering with posting. I’ve chilled out big time on my own thread and I was thinking the same thing as far as why bother with it. Could be the current uncertainty in the market?
Anyway you have really done a fine job with this POT of the week thing…
Rob...I for one look forward to reading your commentary every day whether I'm mentioned in it or not.Well now that's downright nice of you to say that, Doug. My can opener's still got a decent edge on it, and I've got a pantry full of canned corn just waiting to be opened. There are some days though, when I've got several other irons in the fire, and the commentary isn't what I would like it to be.
That reminds me of a couple general announcements I need to make. This Friday the score will definitely be late getting up, because I'll be gone all day and part of the evening. (See? I told you I had a life, but you didn't believe me, did you?) Also, Tuesday, one week from today, is July 4th and the markets will be closed. Something to do with high taxes on tea I think. Anyway, all picks for next week still have to be posted here no later than 3:59 p.m. on Monday, the 3rd. No ifs, ands, or buts about it!
Rob, I enjoy your commentary. Thanks, Runner. Shoot, y'all ain't gonna let me off the hook are ya? :)

"I, I see." That's what I said to myself when I went to look at who's leading the league this 3rd day of the final week in the 2nd quarter. It's IIC! No, not Ice-T, IIC. See? There once was this dude, IIC / Who bought a truckload of OMNI / He cursed and he swore when it popped big at four / 'Cause he sold all his shares around three.
Sliding spikes-high into 2nd is Mimo with GORX, a company that packages and distributes dietary supplements and beauty supplies, etc. The thing that's amazing is that yesterday Mimo was in 22nd place with a score of -3.83%. Way to hang, Mimo!
Did you ever see a New-age alligator? Well look at the Gator-dude, sitting in the lotus position, eyes rolled back into his reptillian head, chanting "OMM ... OMM ... OMM." He's having his own little one-man harmonic convergence. Well you might think that stuff is a "crock," but he's managed to astrally project himself, scales and all, into the third position as of today.
So those are the contenders for the gold, silver and bronze so far. Don't look now, Gator, but there's some dude with pointed ears and a haircut like Moe sneaking up behind you.

Rob, I’m leaving town for a while and so please keep me in cash. Not sure when I’ll be back.Runner, according to the "carved-in-stone" rule, the only way you can do that is to specify the date on which you'll return. I know it's an inconvenience, but it's the same rules everybody has to play by.
That rule first came into being here (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/showthread.php?p=44504), on March 12.

Rob it does not matter. I cannot give date on my return, as I do not know. Family emergency. Not that I’m setting the world on fire with the contest or anything. I’ll gladly take the docked points and move on...
Runner, if you'r not sure, then just pick a stock you think has little downside risk and ride it for 3 or 4 weeks. Like maybe CRDN or something. Re family emergency: sorry to hear that. I hope things will go as well as possible there, whatever the situation. Best.
Rob...IMO...You should take it on a case by case basis...Since I've been a member here I have not had any real emergencies...In fact, in my 53 years I've never had any REAL emergencies that lasted more than 2 days...But it does happen to people.
Runner...I sincerely hope that whatever it is that it all works out...Best...Doug(IIC)
Doug, as the guy stuck in the position of having to make such judgement calls, I see it as the most beneficial to everyone to keep the rules as impersonal and rigid as possible. As soon as I make the first exception, then the proverbial camel will have gotten his nose under the edge of the tent, and there will be no stopping it.

I guess I didn't pick the optimum week to short natural gas . . . ouch!
Even with a last-minute fumble, a bad MOVE as it were, the formidable IIC and his 13.85% walk away easily with the gold medal this week! Excellent play on OMNI, Mr. Fresh! (Good thing you weren't holding XING. Whoah, Nellie!)
As those Brazilian reals keep flowing, the Q is counting his chips, as Banco Bradesco shot up an impressive 9.09% this week! Are you afraid of Ernie's "ghost"? A word of advice: be afraid ... be very afraid. Boo!!! heh heh
The Vulcan Trader must've thought he was Pretty Darn Cute with that 2.68% gain on PDC, but then he had Scottie beam him over to a lighting company called "Color Kinetics" (CLRK). Okay, show of hands, how many of you, when you saw the ticker CLRK, thought it was the company that makes Clark Bars? I did.
Well, the second quarter comes to a close with a resounding thud. Congrats to the three winners this week, and to the eight who got through the somewhat painful quarter with net goose eggs in the loss column! Let's make the third quarter much better than this one. Repeat after Doug: "Every day, and every way, it's getting better and better ... " (actually a John Lennon lyric)
Just so you know, I gave serious consideration to changing the rules for the third quarter. I would like to make this truly a weekly pick contest, where everyone picks one stock prior to Monday's open, and when the market closes Friday, see how everyone did. No buying or selling during the week. Just a weekly pick, period. Very clean-cut, easy to understand, and freeing everyone from having to monitor their picks tick-by-tick. not only that, but it would certainly make things much easier on the scorekeeper!
For now I've decided to let things ride with the status quo. At some point, though, I may institute said changes.

Yes Rob...I did almost blow it...But the angel came through.
As far as the contest rules...Being able to change pix during the week is what sets this contest apart from the others...I stopped participating in all the other contests I was in because you couldn't change...this is more realistic IMO. Why be stuck all week w/ something you might've sold in real life on Monday? Actually, I'd like to see us be able to make more trades...But I realize that scorekeeping is not a paying job.
BTW...The one I use is "Every day in every way I'm getting better and better"...There seems to be some disagreement as to whether it is "Day by Day" or "Everyday" but I didn't get it from John Lennon...I got it from EMILE COUE`,,,THE PROPHET OF AUTOSUGGESTION

And just for good measure, I also tried to sneak in an alternative trade into MRY at $2.67... well well well, would you look at what happened there... IF I was able to trade into MRY, I WOULD HAVE taken out Douggie Fresh, IIC- cancelling my negative ~8% to a positive net gain of ~19%....when I would have sold at $3.40 :D Who else, but a Vulcan, can catapult themselves from last to first at warp speed?

Congratulation to the top three winners and I have a question. Can I buy the same stock that I did the last week or I have to pick a new one weekly?
I’m not doing well with the POTW. Does any have ideas on how to improving my pickings?
jiesen
07-02-2006, 03:28 PM
yeah, of course you can, stky. If you hadn't noticed, I won last quarter's overall average by picking AMLN nearly every week. Buying and holding a stock that you know is undervalued will usually work out better than moving in and out of stocks you hope will move right when you pick them.
and Doug, I am a bit disappointed that you'd discount the overall performance. After all, anyone can get lucky for a week. It's how your picks work out overall that will determine success, right? I always thought that the weekly contest was a bit silly, since you could just game it by picking volatility over quality, and you'd win more often that way. But with an overall average, it's the only way to really tell if any decent stock-picking is happening, and the only way the contest makes any sense.
And you're right, Doug, overall we aren't doing so well. But relatively speaking, stky, you're doing just fine. Note that you're in 8th overall for Q2, which isn't bad for a beginner! Only 8 people finished in positive territory, and you're one of 'em. Keep it up! To pick better stocks, I suggest you keep at what you're doing, and learn as much as possible about business in general- and learn what works and what doesn't by practicing, observing, and just using your logic and common sense.
Well J...I don't think the overall performance is very good...and I'm including myself.
Been a pretty wacky year though...At one point I was up over 30% YTD...then I was slightly red...now overall I'm up right about 8% YTD...WITS is the killer though...I'm only up 2.5% on it YTD and at one time this year I was up almost 28.9% on it (in March). ABAX which I don't own as much of as WITS was dn 25.1% off my buy point a couple of weeks after I bot it in Early May...Now I'm up almost 2% on it.
I've had some decent dt's and swings...nothing huge...but I'm running over 65% gainers.

Doug,
I don't trade with my money like I do the POTW. On POTW, I don't time my entries because often I have to leave the office for a day or even several days at a time. And if my pick collapses, I don't sell it off. Like you I just give it up. Then there have been a few weeks that I didn't tell Rob i wanted to be in cash, so I took a 5% hit. And once I was Robbed by not informing Rob that I wanted to short PARL before the deadline. So I haven't done so well in this contest. On the other hand, my lack of success in POTW has not affected my bottom line.

As far as I know there are only 3 card carrying memebers in the VTP inner circle at this moment. I don't recall the omnipotent commander calling a meeting of the supreme triumvirate. Supreme One are you calling us in for a unification? And what could be of such importance as to call us away from our Vulcan duties. I hear rumblings from the outlying constellations. Are they true? I've never heard of someone proclaiming their own worthiness and requesting entry. Usually the process recognizes someone of distinct higher abilities and character thus prompting the Vulcan mothership to ask them if they would like to give up their present mind and body and become Vulcanized.

Sometimes it takes light years for applications to come across the Omnipotent Commander's desk. It's best to live a completely unadulterated lifestyle void of negativity. After cleansing your mind and body, this takes years, and building your karma level to over 999 Vultags the radiant light of your soul's essence and positive forces will reach the Mothership on it's own and you will be recognized as worthy. It all comes from within. That is the Vulcans mission in their lifetime. Those who aspire to the Vulcan level of existence must follow this path to Vulcanization. It is the only path to recognition.

In Vulcan soldiers it is bred into their psyches before birth to never question the motives of the Omnipotent Commander. As lower life forces we can only follow his radiance without questioning his actions. I'm sure there is a positive ulterior motive behind these actions which at times are hard to comprehend but not our position to question. That is what separates us as Vulcans. I can feel your Vultag count growing as your positive energy forces radiate out spreading positive karma. Live the good life and your essence will be recognized.
I know this to be true as I wasn't born Vulcan but became recognized for the positive energy forces emitting from my essence. I was recognized and Vulcanized much later in life because of those positive forces. It is and can become a reality for normal earthlings but surviving the Vulcanization process can be life threatening itself an only the pure of heart, soul, and faith will make it through the process and the crossover to becoming a Vulcan and gaining your ears. Live the pure life, drink "the Goji" as often an as much as you can, as it will purify an enlighten your soul thus permitting the radiation of your essence to travel across the light years to the Mothership. Well I'll take that as a compliment Doug. Years of working at it and practice. Of course to quote the Beatles, "with a little help from my friends" is an essential part of it. I'm off work until Wednesday so I'm expanding my mindset over these next few days. Thanks for being a sport and going along with my dialogue. You're one of the best an along with Webs and Lye I'm probably one of the sickest.

I bought it on that big drop on the news break about the lying, cheating, and stealing. I own 5000 shares of it. Was in the green pretty good there for awhile but in the red right now. I'm banking on it getting listed on the Nasdaq. I also thing that it has now bottomed out so anything in the $6.00 range looks like a decent entry to me.

I like this one too. Looks like your screens are working pretty well. A growing EPS is definitely something you want to look for in a stock. The next thing you want to look at for this one is whether that growth is sustainable. If you can dig deep enough into the company's books to show that it is, you could have yourself a real winner here. The analysts have them making 0.95 in 2006 but just 0.82 in 2007. Find the real scoop, prove the analysts wrong... and profit!
By the way, you should tell your sister she can move her Roth IRA to Scottrade, or any number of banks, where she can purchase 6 month CD's that yield 5% or so. That beats collecting 1% in a savings Roth. Of course certain minimums probably apply ($2500-5000?) so it might still be necessary to stick with a savings account until enough cash is saved up.
Of course a good mutual fund would be better than that in the long run, but at this stage you probably can't/shouldn't convice anyone of that. However, a higher interest rate on the money should be a no-brainer.

Well Bo it looks like one of us isn't going to win this week. Are you shorting it in your portfolio or just the POTW. I own a decent size position in it.
I keep hoping for a letdown with the Red Sox but they are hitting the cover off the ball and the pitching is pretty good and holding up well. They might be hard to beat this year but it's hard to keep playing at the level they are playing at. Hopefully there will be a let down and the Yankees will slip by them again. Ortiz and Ramirez could be playing teams by themselves the way they are hitting. The city of Boston must be in their glory. I can't wait for the collaspe. Anyway good luck this week with your pick and the Red Sox but I'm rooting for them both to go the wrong way.

yeah, I was looking at the AMLN scrip numbers this morning. They're holding steady with about 40k for Byetta, and growing slowly, but surely for Symlin from 3200 to 3300. I think the stall in Byetta scrips is likely due to the cartridge shortage, and since that may take a few months to fully remedy, the scrips (and therefore the stock) will probably stay in the same range for a while.
PRX, on the other hand, is that beach ball held underwater with just one hand. Anything could trigger a nice spike up 10-20% imo. I'm hoping to catch it in the POTW over the next few weeks. Downside risk with PRX seems minimal. My hunch isn't enough to make me sell my AMLN, though, but I will try it out on my POTW pick just to make things interesting.

Who'd o' thunk that a company with a silly name like Pemstar would take a commanding lead in the world-famous POTW? Doug-E-Fresh, that's who! With a 13.43% gain as of this 2nd day of trading it was enough to eclipse the bright radiance of the Spike's brilliant short on Deluxe Corp. (DLX). Funny, both companies are in Minnesota, land of former governor, Jesse "the Body" Ventura. I guess that state does something other than breeding mosquitoes after all.
Speed Racer, with his little brother and a monkey in the trunk of the Mach 5, pressed a button on his steering wheel and catapulted into third place with a long play on your favorite home restoration company and mine, Home Solutions. Sorry BoSox, but them's the facts. Well, who knows what can happen in the next two days?

No problemo Rob... Your doing a good Vulcan job.
I've got a new name for Doug-E-Fresh: the Ice Man. The name comes from "IC," the last two letters of his screen name, which, when you say them, sounds like "icy"; also because he so coolly picks the optimal time to sell some of these stellar picks, the way he did today with Pemstar. Speaking of "picks," I guess I'll call the Ice Man's plays "ice picks." Okay, Ice Man, you've got one more ice pick available this week. Oh and by the way, most impressive play on PMTR!
Spike! What are you doing in 2nd place with nearly 16%, dude? Don't you just hate it when that happens? We've all got to hand it to you: that short play on DLX was deluxe indeed! Way to go, man! So, I take it you're of the belief that it's headed yet lower? You're not tempted to "ring the register," as Cramer would say, and ride another one down? More power to ya, dude.
This week, what's good news for Speed Racer is bad news for BoSox and vice-versa. Well today the news was bad for Speedy, 'cause HOM dropped more than 4%, but not bad enough to keep him out of third place! Even with today's setback, Speed's still got enough oomph out of HOM for the week to keep him ahead of the rest of the pack.
As a group we (the active players) slipped into the red today with an average of -0.11% on the week, largely due to the misfortune of our 2nd quarter champion, Jiesen. Why couldn't you have done something like that last week, dude, so I could have placed second? Oh well, we've passed a lot of water under the bridge since then, so no worries.

yeah, I know, but I can't help feeling like such a moron for being so sure about this stock being a good value. It's giving me a good lesson, to be sure. I'm glad I didn't add more at 18, but I did make 3 purchases of PRX over the past few years, at 72, 60 and doubling up at 40. So although the $5 drop smarts, I'd already lost most of the money earlier on, and am down to about a 1% position in it now. So at least my diversification is working for me here, but had I sold my AMLN last week to put it into PRX, I'd really be hating it right now. Actually what hurts worse than PRX is my recent accumulation of MFLX, which is also down $5+ today. I'm losing twice as much there, since my MFLX position is currently about 3%. Seems whatever $$MM stock I get excited about enough to add to (above my typical position size of 2%) heads straight for the gutter. I must be an easy sucker for value traps, and will have to adjust my analysis process accordingly. Gotta remember that old Murphy's Law!

AHHH What HAPPEN!!!!
SELL! SELL! SELL! ARRS Rob please and buy LVS. I don't know if it will do any good but I'm hoping to reduce my lost by one percent. HA Thanks
Hey Sticky. Here's a little TA that you should burn into your memory. Remember the head n shoulders top and sell at the KOD to target the height of the head measured from the neckline break down.

Oh and LVS is a very good long in my opinion. I was thinking about taking it long tomorrow actually. Not only is it the strongest in PSP#11 (IIC 100 filtered parabolic) (http://www.parabolicstockpicks.com/index.php?s=psp%2311&submit=Search) but other TA is very bullish for it too, like the bollinger band action, candles closing above the bands on the daily, there's also a volume gap support that filled yesterday and it's owed a 5th, so good luck!
I'm sorry. My mistake... I suppose I should study human culture a little better.Thank you. Allow me to tell you something about one particular human who goes by the name of Rob: he's very sensitive and highly reactionary to that kind of stuff—so much so that he would like to see it and all vestiges of it expunged from the thread. It wouldn't surprise me in the least to see Rob disappear from the thread as long as the offending article remains. Rob's funny that way.

Wait a min...I got mixed up...I see your post at 9:13 and I forgot I have the forum time on Pacific...I was thinking you got in at the open (4.96)...With those figures the highest % you were at is 16.7393983% assuming you are correct on the prices
EDIT...I mean 15.9218482%...Right now it looks like I'm at 17.428514%, Spike is 16.8056625% and you are 9.9628166%

If it weren't for that daily price resistance/gap resistance, and overnight 10-min bearish head n shoulder I'd be skeered of ya! hehe It's doin' the R shoulder. I think you should sell it lol :D

Congrats Spike...Good job in a tough week...Well, gotta hit the road...Doug(IIC)
Congratulations to Spike Vader who, with 16.12%, was the only one this week who could top the Ice Man!
The Ice Man ran out of Windex for his crystal ball, and so his 2% loss on BMRN dropped him from the gold to the silver position with a measly 15.43%! Great contest this week, both o' yous.
BillyJoe McCallister and his stocklemon strategy managed to pull off a very nice gain this week, coming back from a -0.99% deficit to snag a TD + 0.01. Nice MOVE, BJ. Beats jumpin' off a bridge!
