TZOO was around the $20 range a week an a half ago. Did you own any of it?

Well thanks for bringing it to my attention anyway. I almost bailed today at $3.90 range but decided to keep a close eye on it and give it some room to breathe. Geez, I could use a nice one an a half or a double. It's been awhile. I'm going to place a stop around $3.70/3.75 in the morning and see what it does. You're welcome. It sure does look good despite being at resistance. I note the intraday pivot is 3.74 for it tomorrow.

Good luck.
I just found another reason to like IMCL. Check this out: according to a Web site called Insider-Monitor.com, on this page (http://www.insider-monitor.com/insider_stock_trading_report.html) (if you look about 8th transaction from the bottom):
Symbol ............ Issuer ........................... Insider Name .................. B/S .... Shares .... Price ..... Value($) .... ReportTime ..... TradeDate
IMCL .... IMCLONE SYSTEMS .... TARNOWSKI S JOSEPH (Other) .... B ...... 6,500 ..... 37.16 .... 241,539 ...... 17:48:21 ...... 2006-04-24
And who is S. Joseph Tarnowski? He is ImClone's former Vice President, Process and Product Development, who left in Feb. to take a job with Bristol-Myers Squibb, ImClone's big pharma partner for Erbitux. BMS also controls about 18~19% stake in IMCL stock.
If he likes it at 37 and change, then I guess I do too.
... so stick that in your "neutral" VTP pipe and take a few hits on it, Webs. heh heh
:)
:)
:)
:D
And Goldman Sachs this morning, on IMCL earnings:
"IMCL (OP/N): 1st take: Beat EPS on strong Erbitux and tax benefit
Imclone (OP/N) reported EPS of $2.51 vs. our est of $1.10 and consensus of $1.00. The upside reflects strong Erbitux sales, lower expenses, and a tax benefit of $1.08/sh. Domestic Erbitux sales were $138MM, $8MM better than our forecast and $7MM higher than consensus. Management indicated that there was no wholesaler stocking. Our estimates are under review."
Lawd! I love it.

Congrats Rockin'Rob.... You are HUUUUGE!!!! What's your target?
I'll tell ya', my impression right now is that the probablility of this company being sold is so high that I'm looking to hold it until I get the sale price, whatever that might be ... and if that never comes about I'll just hold it long-term until I get at least 120 or so, 'cause I think it can go there -- monitoring it all the while of course for changing market conditions.

Rob,,,,I want to close down my SWIR short......Tried to get cute with this thinking at least part of last week's move would retrace....SWIR is actually one of my favorite stocks, I think it doubles from here....
As I watch in disbelief IMCL continue to defy what should be tremendous upward pressure, I see that Pete and Scifos have both managed to hook into some pretty huge winners so far this week. Great picks, dudes! Solid gold.
The good news is that IMCL is not taking a 5 or 10% haircut on the earnings report as has been known to happen ... (yet). That's encouraging at least, and I'm holding.

Rob,
I'll take PEIX short please.Let's see, let's see ... PEIX ... P-E-I-X ....... oy yeah here it is, and it trades on the NASDAQ .... so it's a good one this time .... (good meaning "valid" ... we won't know if it was actually "good" until a little later)
:) :) :D
Wow! Pete H. and Scifos found a couple of HUGE plays this week! And Micky's SVVS is none too shabby either ... just not quite as un-shabby as the other two. :)
This chart doesn't show it yet, but the Flaming Brain's play on WIRE is takin' off in the after-hours market too! (And I mean big time.)
Congrats, dudes!

Rob, I might have finally made a wise move I sold my position on BBD and entered all I could into WIRE this morning, I didn’t have the huevos nor the Vulcan blood to deal with its decline, alas the -8% can slim rule of thumb entered the picture. If history repeats itself all holding BBD can now expect a tremendous reversal - will see how it shakes out, just pissed that I sold another mm stock at a loss...-

Sure I can't have two?
Boy...I sure did that well!
I had it narrowed down to two choices
Stock I picked: -4.10% (EGY)
Stock I didn't pick: +18.35% (LDSH) .....glad it was in my real port.
I have to quit using that 2 headed penny!

I'm just now in the process of doing an on line scan of my entire system to get rid of some stupid adware and potentially harmful spyware that managed to find its way onto my computer, and I will not be able to post the daily update until later this evening. Please bear with me.
Spikefader, I know you use the Medved QuoteTracker software. I'd be careful if I were you. I have a sneaking suspicion that may be the source of this infection, though I'm not 100% sure.
The reason I say that is because it's the only software I've installed on this computer that doesn't come from a highly regarded, "legitimate" software vendor, like Microsoft, Adobe, Symantec, Autodesk, etc.
This really hacks me off.

Jim,
Does this mean you're leaving the forum or just not posting in the POTW or the general forum anymore. Just what does, "I'm not wasting my time posting" mean in the overall sense. I for one would hate to see you go. I like reading your stuff and look at all your leads an have played a number of them successfully. I made $6000 on CSCO options after you brought them to our attention in your thread. If you're looking for recognition or esteem you might not find the ultimate satisfaction that your looking for. I also see alot of blabbering going on in other threads which gets alot more attention than what I think it should but that's just the way it is. Keep posting your ideas and picks.

Huh? ... Wha? ... Wow, James, I didn't know you cared! :) No one's told me I'm the best at anything for a long .... wait, well there was that one .... and then, oh yeah, that other occasion ... well, I'm flattered nevertheless! :D On a serious note, while I don't have the time to follow all of your trades (though I wish I did) I really do value your opinions. So if you're feeling fed up with the whole deal, just go with ca$h for a couple weeks, to avoid the 5% penalty. That way you won't have to sweat what your one pick over here is doing, and you won't really lose any ground. After that you'll feel much better, I can almost guarantee it! And if that doesn't work, there's always plan B: i.e. taking a couple of long, hard pulls off o' that jug full o' Goji juice, or whatever the devil it is.

That's was his decision Dave, not the members here. Seems to me that he was warmly embraced by everyone here to me.... It takes a continuing effort to keep a thread going here.
Heck, you're still here and you caught heck at first. Now I actually look forward to your one-liners and sarcasm......... HOWEVER.... If you only knew how to hit the "quote" button.... and post marked up charts that show up in the post (not a link) you'd be hell-on-wheels dude.lol
btw, I read your every post.... and I read Robbb24's every post.... and I read Jim Smitty's every post. Jim just kinda pissed me off yesterday with the POTW comment. I take BillyJoe's POTW contest sorta "personal", It's a great thread concept imo and is what attracted me to the forum in the first place. AND considerable effort went into growing it and a HUUUUGE effort by Rockin'Rob is invested weekly to make it interesting for all here. Some folks are too selfish to appreciate that though.

Well...I wasn't gonna win with CUP (But I kept it in real life...I'm up 5 cents sh.)...So I was watching news looking for a quickie...Nothing came up but I took a flyer to try to move up a few spaces...Pretty tough to find a news play on Friday afternoons though.
My favorites are cos. who release their earnings about midnight on Saturdays ;)
And the gold medal this week goes to .... [trumpet fanfare] ..... [drum roll] ...... SCIFOS!!!! with an astounding 18.81% gain for the week!!!! .... [uproarious applause, uncontrolled screaming, bodies getting smashed against chain-link fences from the surging crowd, women fainting ... ]
And the silver medal goes to ..... [more fanfare, etc.] ..... Pete HUUUUUUUUGE!!!! Who lived up to his HUGE name with a HUGE play on IIP!!! 18.02% in one week is huge no matter how you slice it!! Just 8/10 of a percent more, Pete, and it woulda been the gold! But there Scifos stands, with his foot bearing down on our collective throat.
And the bronze medal this week goes to .... [fanfare, drums] .... Spikefader!!! With his burnt toast candidates he toasted us all pretty good, buttered us up and slid us right out the door!
Way to go, you three stooges! (Sorry, Gary, it just seemed appropriate.) Several more did mighty, mighty fine too, as you can see on the list. Overall this week, a pretty mixed bag, but still a positive score (even if just barely) for all the active players! Way to go, everybody! We ought to be able to top this next week, eh? Sure we can! Now start running your scans and divining from your charts, 'cause Monday will roll around before you know it!
(I know I said this was going to be later this evening, but one of my pressing circumstances changed on me, so now it's only 70 things in face. :)

Rob has taught us one thing: what it takes to be huge in POTW. I see that after Pete (at 3.33%) 2.45 for the year is king of the hill, and wouldn't you know it--it's Karel on top of that hill. He's a nice guy, but that mechanical fund--isn't that cheating? And in the back of my mind I hear him taunting us all: "If your not Dutch, you aren't much!: :D I'm up 0.17% for the year because I let my losers run. Dug a pretty deep pit out of which to crawl up. Going to try to stop that foolishness.
Quasi-Ernie--muscle bound!
And if Lye-baby is going to take PARL long this week, I would recommend that the readers not follow his example with their own real cash money.

Dude...that looks like a cool machine! You shouldn't be showng this equipment though. I might want to quit my state job and start my own lawn care service. There's a ton of business just wainting to be taken around the Destin area. It probably wouldn't be too hard to take out the competition...but if I stay where I'm at for 12 more years, the State of Florida will be paying me a pile of money...so I guess I'll stay.

Webs, that one piece of equip cost about 6200. Now the cost of fertilizer has gone through the roof. One thing is for sure my production rate will increase and I have no choice but to pass the increased costs to the customers. One good thing that helps save us cash is buying the fertilizer and chemicals in bulk. Webs slap down some fertilizer on your turf and keep it cut about once a week. Your grass thieves when temps are + 90 degrees. Your lawn should get about 1” of water per week. If you have St. Augustine watch for chinch bugs.

I've ranked the POTW players by compounded return divided by number of weeks played (that's the "special K" factor). I've also included the averages of all the POTW results, which are fairly close, but a bit less relevant to me.
I've left out the bottom few, and those who haven't played more than 5 out of the last 10 weeks or so (sorry Micky). No 5% penalties were included in the calculations. If you see an error in your POTW average or #weeks played, PM me and I'll fix it. This was a rush job, typos may have occurred.

Geez IIC you could not have told me that sooner (j/k).
Okay WMI ?
Edit- BTW Picked WMI off the cuff.
Lately I have been using a mechanical investing strategy (see MF board for RRS and XG) that does not work so well at the daily-weekly competition level for POTW, but has been doing nicely outside of that.
So, I have extended the use of a short term system based off of Elder’s screening system (implemented in Amibroker), to the results of the above MI strategy.
Ideally I would have gone with CSX now that I look at the spreadsheet, but lets see.

Here is my slop chart on pets. I see a possible bear flag or drifting action happening in price. Although the action is bullish down to last low, I don’t like the drifting here. If buyers don’t jump in and it cracks here I think a return move back to at least last lows is possible. Now having said this if it does pop the red lines and sticks I’ll change my mind on it. Next Bull task I see is a fill of gap. Bear task is to stop the drifting action and return it to last low. I do think the truth on this one will be revealed shortly. But as always we shall see. If you don’t mind me asking Gary what is it about PETS that you like? I’m not in it and best luck…
Oh, I should also mention my timing has been off as of late.

PS...Now if I would ALWAYS follow that philosophy I'd probably be a lot better off...I've got a pretty big stake in the ICOC report tomorrow morning

Meanwhile, BoSox is racking up a pretty impressive score this week also, scoring more than two touchdowns with extra points in the net gain column! Awesome, BoSox!
The number 3 and 4 slots go to Da Mighty Kong and Da Kat, with 9.7% and 8.44% respectively, which are pretty doggone respectable scores! are they not?
But look who's next on the list, making a good showing this week! Why it's Shadow! That Ladish Co. of Cudahy, Wisconsin (LDSH) is treating her mighty fine this week, with a 5.78% gain so far, almost a TD (6 pts.)! The Ladish Co. makes forged and cast metal products, enabling Shadow to forge ahead into a strong position, casting a shadow on the majority of the players this week! Way to go, Shadow!
This update is dedicated to the memory of the great Louis Rukeyser, who died Tuesday of multiple myeloma. He was 73. I loved his show.

Ray has darts and they work ok.... How about building a wheel? Kinda like wheel of fortune? Spin it for your picks.... Then spin a second smaller wheel to choose long or short.... I'll get to work on that.

I just want to thank Rob again for all of his hard work on the POTW.... If not for you this contest just wouldn't be the same dude. I know you are slammed this week and you STILL come thru with the scorecard! HUUUUGE!!!! I tell ya HUUUUGE!!!!
btw, On my end I think my bootleg copy of Excel is the problem with running your program.lol.... Did you get all the junk cleaned out of your machine?
On my end I think my bootleg copy of Excel is the problem with running your program.lolYou see? That's why MSFT is < 24 today.
Did you get all the junk cleaned out of your machine? No. I'm using my laptop till I get the other one disinfected. If one or two more sessions with the tech people fail to eliminate the problem, I'm going to have to go for the "scorched earth" approach, a prospect I'm not particularly fond of.
Lye your Idea for Billy to build a wheel to pick stocks seems like a game of chance to me. Your not Inferring that my picks are just luck? Thanks for your mention of me being the 2005 champ but I was also champ of 2004 so I do believe It takes more than luck you also must be able to handle the right amount of beer not to much and not to little. Now If I could get some of that berry juice I could challenge Cramer

BoSox's Intevac play continues to look strong, picking up another 1.59% today, settling in at a league-leading 16.49%! Itevac, which makes equipment used in manufacturing hard disk drives, and also makes cool stuff that goes into night vision goggles, is located in Santa Clara, CA. Little-known Rob trivia: I lived in Santa Clara as a little kid from '62-'64. I remember watching Pres. Kennedy's funeral live on our ancient RCA TV set in Santa Clara, and I remember vivdly watching the Beatles on the Ed Sullivan show a few months later on that same TV. They supplanted The Kingston Trio as my favorite musical group from that day forward. Santa Clara's a cool place, but I went by there in Dec. last year, and it just ain't the same as it was 42 years ago. My, how time flies.
Doug-E-Fresh's Candlea Corp. gave back a little today (5.48% plus a little more in after-hours) but is still good enough to keep him riding shotgun this week. Candela has the potential to be hugely successful in the long run, because they operate in the vanity sector, and I don't mean vanity as in a neat little piece of furniture where a lady sits and trowels on all that lovely gunk that makes them so beautiful. Candela makes laser equipment that removes things like wrinkles, unwanted hair, spots, tattoos, etc. With the baby-boom population getting on in years, this company definitely has an expanding market.
Da Mighty Kong's Matritech is a biotech company that makes cancer testing products. Kong seems to have played it really well, 'cause even though it gained 8.94% today, its last price was 1.34, exactly where he bought it Monday. Nice one, Kong! You just going to sit the rest of the week out, are you?

Doug and Ray,
You are both correct. Ray won in 2004, but the POTW was not created until Jan. 2005. Ray won the groundbreaking March Madness Stock Pickers Tournament with an astounding gain of 21% from a 5 stock portfolio in 2 weeks. Doug did not participate. The other 2004 tournament was the Pre-Presidential Election Tournament in Oct.2004 won by ridemhigher with Ray finishing 5th and Doug 9th in a field of 16.

That's why he hired Nikola Tesla (http://www.teslasociety.com/lightning.htm). Too bad he was too haughty to listen when Tesla told him AC was better than DC.
Actually, when you look at the history of the situation, Tesla was only correct at that time because power generation facilities needed to be large for the entire public. If you look at things nowdays, the energy situation would be better if we had smaller plants, with smaller transmission distances, and a decentralized industry. The main issue with DC was the transmission over distance. AC is better over distance. Look at the brownout situation and the current threats to our electricity infrastructure. It will be more costly to maintain it, than it would have been if was decentralized and regionalized (by townships, neighborhoods, zip codes, whathaveyou). DC would be better for this, but the vision at the time of Tesla was big, gov't supplied power to the people sort of idea. It was that philosophy then, which will hurt us in the future.
I love that quote, however, "Thomas Edison was afraid of the dark" I wonder if Otis was afraid of stairs, and Bill Gates afraid of paper cuts
Don't forget that voltage cannot be regulated in a DC system the way it can be done easily with AC by the use of transformers—a major advantage.

Whatever Quasi picks, it's sure to be a winner...The Q is HUGE! As we speak he's 5th on the list for highest reterns in the POTW for the 2nd quarter, behind Da Mighty Kong, Doug-E-Fresh, our resident beer-drinking dart-thrower Ray, and MickyMouse, who somehow seems to have lost the E out of his first name.
The Q is a high roller, you see, and MFLX is reporting earnings on Tuesday. The Q wants some of that earnings action, because he tells me MFLX is gonna beat the estimates.

I'm sorry, Quasi-quasi-Ernie, but there appears to be a misunderstanding, as the original Quasi-Ernie doesn't speak to anyone except the person handling the scorekeeping duties, who for the time being is moi. I must refer you to the Birth of Quasi-Ernie (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/showthread.php?p=44187) post and inform the board that the Q's pick this week is MFLX long.
And.... "Q" only picks stocks from "real Ernie's" open positions list....

Mr.Market has only picked 3 sub $10 stocks out of 95 picks and none in over 3 years. Wouldn't it ad some excitement to this forum?Maybe ACTU will make it some day although MM probably would have to relax some of his requirements which he wouldn't do. Oh well , wishful thinking on my part.

Greetings,
Against my better judgement I'll take ZICA long.
cordially Tom
I was speaking to you (moi), the score keeper , therefore ,your argument is invalid. The original post was to Mr.Rob. I erred in addressing Mr.IIC...QuasiThe scorekeeper, and no one else, posts Quasi-Ernie's pick for the week. There was a two-fold purpose in creating the Quasi-Ernie character for the POTW: (1) Since the real Ernie refuses to join, the next best thing would be to use one of his picks in the contest. (2) Keeping the score here is a lot more demanding than most probably realize, and so it's one of the "bennies" of being the scorekeeper.
If I may be perfectly blunt, without any disrespect intended, I did not create Quasi-Ernie to be hijacked by someone else. Is that valid enough?

No matter. The important thing is that I put up real money on SGG about a week and a half ago.
Rob- Your super fast stock recording skills caught my BID pick before I changed to ATI.Ahhh, so you did. That is one reason I request that any change in position is made with a new post rather than an edit of an existing one. This becomes particularly important during trading hours! If there's ever any ambiguity as to which trade was placed when, due to an edit of an existing post, then the default trade will be the one to the participant's disadvantage. I strongly discourage the practice of changing a position post during market hours, and it's better during off-market hours to avoid it as well.
Now, knowing the way Doug operates, he would probably try to find a loophole in the system, knowing that there's about a 5-minute window after a post that it can be edited without the little "last edited" time stamp showing up under it. Well, let me just say right up front, if I ever catch anyone trying to abuse that little loophole, they will be restricted from participation for a minimum of five weeks, during which time they will accrue the standard 5% penalty each week. In other words: don't try it!

Rob, you can have the posts emailed to you and catch any cheaters that way.Yeah, I could, but I don't want to, as I don't really expect anyone, including Doug, to try to cheat. I only used Doug as an example, because he cracks me up the way he will sniff out a loophole if there is one.
If this happens I vote for a lifetime POTW ban. Learn from Pete Rose....Wow, you're even thougher than I am. Don't get me started on Pete Rose. His "punishment" for betting on baseball games is one of the most unjust things that has ever come to pass in the history of sports. It would be one thing if he was secretly betting against his own team and purposely throwing the game, but unless I've been misinformed, Charlie Hustle never bet against his own team, let alone do anything to bring about a loss. More hits than anyone in the history of the game and not in the hall of fame? That's a joke, and not a funny one either. Nowadays you got guys like Barry Bonds runnin' around threatening the Babe's home run stats and using steroids left and right, and they're still in the game! Pete Rose isn't even allowed to go into a ball field anywhere. If, as the psychological community claims, compulsive gambling is an illness, then Pete Rose has been banned from baseball for being sick! Man that ticks me off.
That's it, folks. The Monday closing bell has rung, and the POTW for the week of May 8 is now officially ...

Actually I would let Pete back into baseball.... but if I caught him cheating in the POTW I'd ban his a$$ for life.LOL!
Well...I'll take the "Loophole" comment as a compliment...Sure I know you can edit a post...I would never do that in a contest and anyone caught doing it to cheat should be banned for life IMO...In fact, I don't edit any of my posts unless I see a typo. Also, anyone going back and changing some pix they put up in any post days ago should be banned too.
But I didn't know there was a 5 min grace period...Just went back to my May 4th MoMo post and wrote "testing edit feature"...You are right...the edit time does show up...Actually, that is good to know that peple can't go back and change their posts...In fact, I think the edit time should show up even if you edit within 1 second...There should be no grace period...Doug(IIC)
Okay, here we go. Lyehopper scored a TDWEP right off the bat with a HUGE play on PARL, you know, that company that sells the Paris Hilton skank ho water.
Doug's Tesco Corp. (TESOF) is a bunch o' Kanucks who make stuff for oil drillers, and evidently are doing it well, becuase it was good enough for Mr. E-Fresh to rack up an FG.
Ol' Scifos' SGL Carbon (SGG) is a company that makes graphite and carbon products for aerospace and industry. The company was founded in 1872, so I reckon they know what they're doing, having survived 134 years, including two world wars--and that's something, considering they're a bunch o' Krauts.

I watch the market pretty closely so I don't use actual automatic stops. I do have stops in mind though. I rarely let a loser get me for more than 10% but it has happened.
I'm very bullish on ACTU. I have a friend who's stock picking skills I really trust and he owns a ton of ACTU. I have researched them pretty good myself, I also listened to the latest CC.... I think this stock could go to $10 and beyond.

......If this happens I vote for a lifetime POTW ban....
I concur.....
Okay, since there appears to be a general consensus on the lifetime ban penalty, I'll go along with it too. In fact, when I propounded the five-week thing, I really wanted to say lifetime, but I thought people would say I was being too rough and try to reign me in.
Therefore, let it be known henceforth and forevermore: anyone caught changing a POTW pick, using the edit feature, in such a way as to undo or change a bad trade during regular trading hours, shall without mercy be banned forthwith from participation in the contest, without possibility of parole. There shall be shame and humiliation upon the offender and his or her household to the tenth generation.
Just to avoid any misunderstanding, this warning does not apply to modifications of a "pick post" made during off-market hours to a post that was originally created during the same off-market period; however that practice is still discouraged, and it is always better to use a new post to make a change in one's position.

Lye,
You already know that I don't like this stock long right now. :D I have badgered you for about 3 weeks on this one, to the point of making myself obnoxious. But if you are a glutton for punishment . . . .
1. PnF says $19.
2. FIB retracements says . . . . $19.
3. Today's bearish $3.30 drop says that you have at least another drop of $3.30 coming (Dow Theory). Sure, that's more than $19, but it is the '1st target' of this bear call, and coincides beautifully with the next support at $22.50.
4. Short interest is high on this one--that means there are a lot of people who don't like it long right here :D
5. The weekly shows that the uptrend started to lose the momo last May '05, and the uptrend when completely busto March 1 of this year.
Now, who wants Paris' stinkin' perfume long, right here? :D

OK, I'll throw a chart on your thread later.
But not much has changed from the last several charts I posted in your thread. I recall saying under 28.00 and it's in trouble. Well it broke 28.00 and that recent strength was something to be selling into imho. Same SHS breakdown, major reg channel bust, and broadening triangle breakdown (http://webpages.charter.net/spikefiles/SpikesCharts/PARL%20Apr%2012.gif). And recall those EFA:PARL and PARL:EFA ratio charts. They are tracking according to plan too I note. Have another look at the PARL:EFA one (http://webpages.charter.net/spikefiles/SpikesCharts/EFA%20PARL%20April%204.gif). Shows the diamond top, the broadening bearish triangle, and the symm triangle breakdown. That stuff is pretty left field, but still pretty cool. I am very bullish on EFA, and when I use a strong chart like that one versus PARL's it seems to leverage the difference and highlight the weakness for the weaker chart, and potential for the stronger one....

Yeah, that gap in ELOS really sucks now!.... That gap up yesterday was a sucker move.
Looking at the chart, Lye, it would appear PARL's latest base is a "late-stage base" in IBD-speak. But looking at the fundamentals, I have to agree with stenzrob in that this sell-off is just goofy. Still tempted to buy, but am holding off for more clarity.

I've been holding ZOLT for quite awhile (since I picked it for POTW in feb @ 16.31) and am up almost 100% on it and it could be looking for more, up strong lately on volume.
Look at it run in after hours! The earnings report was HUGE!

SGG making a nice after hours move too, probably due to ZOLT (same industry) posting huge earnings.
Hey, Scifos! Congrats on ZOLT, dude! HUUUGE!!!!! Aren't they the ones who make that cola with "all the sugar and twice the caffeine"? No, wait ..... that's Jolt! ... heh heh ... Different company. Anyways, congrats, dude!
Thanks Rob. Still actually holding IVAC. Had an excellent earnings release, but remained range bound. But, for this contest's purposes, I saw it fail to break the triangle and figured, that's as good as it gets this week :D
Diogenes' Allegheny Technologies Inc. (ATI), which happens to be not only a member of the S&P 500 but of the S&P 100, also happens to be a member this week of the POTW top 1. Super pick on what appears to be a fairly rotten week, Diogenes!!! Would you care to enlighten the rest of us on just what made you believe this specialty metals producer was going to prosper so handsomely this week?
Number two on the list this 3rd day of the week is Huge Pete HUGE!!! Ol' Pete has decided to show us all how it's done, this time playing Northern Orion Resources, Inc. (NTO) of Vancouver, B.C. Don't let that Kanuck address fool you though. These home boys make their bread down south ... WAYYYYY down south in Argentina!! That's where they mine gold and copper! Now where do you suppose companies like WIRE get all of that copper anyway? They have to get it from companies like NTO who actually dig that stuff out o' the ground! Didn't you pay attention to those grainy 16mm films they showed you in grade school? The ones with the scratchy sound tracks that would always be a fraction of a second out of sync with the picture unless they got the size of the loop just right? Come on, man! The thing that seems weird to me is: doesn't silver naturally occur in nature along side copper deposits? Are these dudes hiding something?
Number 3 so far this week is BJ!! No, not BillyJoe, just BJ! As some of you who were paying attention may have noticed, BJ cashed out of his position in Intevac Inc. (IVAC) yesterday, 14 minutes prior to the closing bell, with a mighty respectable 3.93% gain! Turns out that was quite an excellent move there, BJ, ol' buddy, as can be seen from this 5-day chart:
http://img143.imageshack.us/img143/4025/w3xn.png (http://imageshack.us/)
Way to go, BJ, dude! Ride 'em on up and let those other turkeys ride 'em back down! Wish I knew how to do that!

Sure:
First, I have to mention that my first pick was HANS, but since it was reporting earnings I meddled with the method and did not pick it. Then I had BID down, but I picked that over ATI for other reasons- at first.
So, what is the method right?
Essentially I am using a mechanical investing strategy that looks for stocks that have an exponential trajectory for their price (i.e. increasing line). After looking for outstanding fundamentals.
Initially I wanted to model this by a stochastic differential equation ( looking at change in prices in this case) ,
like a differential equation (same idea) but instead of working with, say, real numbers, allows one to work with “randomness,” but I got lucky as several members at Motley Fool had already “been there-done that.” So, they deserve all the credit, esp. BarryDTO and Loren Cobb (http://www.aetheling.com/MI/index.html).
I scanned the Time 1 and 2 stocks from Value Line to get some stocks to rank by the above range and usually scan the 5 MrMarket picks as well.
NEU has been very good with this method.
I hope that everyone turns green in the end!

Hmmm... perhaps something like a real valued function that allows for randomness, would be a tad better?
I think you could also look at it like a simple regression line...
or a maybe I should just go with random posting? :P
Edit- Of course ATI will now tank.

Ladies and gentlemen! Ladies and gentlemen! Please may I have your attention?
[The crowd finally quiets down, all except for Doug, who for some reason is muttering profanities under his breath.]
Please do not be alarmed, but I have discovered an anomoly in the way the scoring system works. As some of you know, we've been using the magnificent Web site at http://www.businessweek.com (http://www.businessweek.com/) to retrieve our daily stock prices for some time now. Those folks over at businessweek.com do a great job, don't they? How 'bout we show 'em some love? Let's give a big round of applause for businessweek.com!
[applause ... applause ... ]
Now, businessweek.com, which I'll refer to as "the source," says that their latest quotes are delayed by twenty minutes. That is why, as you may have observed, the time stamp on the last update indicates a time that is never earlier than 4:20 pm plus a few minutes. Well, this morning, by chnace, I discovered that the prices the source reports as yesterday's closing prices were, in the cases of a few stocks, a few pennies off from those which were reported yesterday at 4:25:24, the time of the latest update. For example, yesterday at 4:25, WIRE's last price was reported to be 46.50, and this morning the source indicates that yesterday's last price was 46.56. The net effect is that the Flaming Brain's percentage gain is in actuality higher than that which was posted yesterday, by thirteen one-hundredths of a percent (0.13%).
I do not know at what time the last scores were finalized on the Web site, but be assured that I am on top of the situation and will monitor it closely to make sure that the scores posted here will be reliable. During this process you may see that the scores are not posted as quickly after the close as that to which you have become accustomed. Please bear with me, and all will be well, I assure you.
Thank you for your kind attention. Now someone please pass me the hot sauce.

Look at my ESLR crash DUDE! jejejejejeje....hic!
Week 5 (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/showthread.php?p=39993) was the worst week for the POTW so far this year in terms of overall average, with all active players averaging a -5.94% for the week. My most recent update (2:05) shows that the average among the active so far this week is -5.87%. This is not the record we are shooting for!
Rob there Is no reason that we need to see this weeks standings
We are now at -6.3% for the week among the active players. 'Nuff said ... well, that, plus the fact that Diogenes' ATI is beatin' the pants off us! (Nice short on Evergreen there too, O one who hops in lye!)
As you can see the latest update is time stamped 4:52. Allowing for the 20-minute delay, that means these closing prices are those the source had as of 4:32, more than a half hour after the market closed. If anyone notices any different numbers any time between now and the time the market opens tomorrow, be a good li'l injun and let us know.

Ahh! My first taste of the gold! Thanks for covering when you did, Lyehopper! That allowed me to beat you this week by a whopping three hundredths of a percent! That really was a great short, dude!
And look who's the 2nd "runner"-up! It's Runner! With his eagle-eye he spotted a great shorting opportunity also--in PARL! Good work, Runner, dude!
BJ and Dio both scored better than FG's this horrid week also! Good work, guys! And Dio, even though your ATI fell from grace a bit from yesterday, still, nearly 4% on the week is pretty remarkable--especially considering what a slaughterhouse it has been!
Sowers, BoSox, Huge Pete and Mimo round out the list of those who finished up this week. Normally I don't enumerate each one like that, but this week was a fairly short list, so ...
Well now for the bad news, fellas: Yes, two new worst loss of the year records were set this week: (1) worst average score among active players (-7.71%) and (2) greatest single one-week loss by a player. Sorry, BillyJoe, but at least you did it on a really sucky week, if that's any solace! As if that weren't bad enough, the total average for active players crossed into the red also. So let's see if we can't turn things around!
Wow, MFLX got slaughtered big-time as well! And on a good earnings report too! Can anyone spell "buying opportunity"? And if so, is this one? Nevermind the first question; if you can accurately answer that second one, I'll buy you a beer!

Sorry for the weird colors in the framing of that chart. I had some formatting difficulties, and something went screwy on me. Anyway, all the good stuff is there.
Also, there are nine people who have not participated in more than three weeks, who do not appear on the list, though their scores are still figured into the averages. I just decided to conceal those rows. It looks nicer.
Edit: Hmmm, there's something weird about BillyJoe's Q2 average also. It's not figuring correctly. Not to worry, it shall be fixed!
Edit #2: It's fixed. For some unknown reason, there was a zero in that cell instead of the formula that was supposed to be there. Things are under control.

Just came back from a bud's graduation shindig. I stood close to the fire so long I probably smell like Smokey Bear. Goin' to another tomorrow night.
But enough of that. Since the ASCO abstracts are being pre-released to the onological community next week, I'm expecting more good things to come for embattled ImClone. So IMCL long for the coming week!
Quasi-Ernie is so embarassed for that poor showing with MFLX this week, he's ashamed to even show his imaginary face. But you KNOW he's got to play MFLX long again--for the bounce, baby! So that the Q's pick for next week.
I show the open tick @16:00pm for IMCL @ $41.91 giving you a gain of 9.86% dudeYeah, Lyehopper, 41.91 was the opening tick. But some genius decided to sell at the last second for 22 cents cheaper, and so the closing price became 41.69. I'd like to give that guy a boot to the head.

Scifos,
Here's my miserable performance back to the last pick that finished in positive territory. Week of 12/22/05 . It's actually worse than it appears since on more than one occassion I picked 2 losers in the same week.
------------------My Bad Portfolio----------------------------------------
GEMS -46.02%
ANDE -4.84
SPIL -4.95
HOM -.75
EGY -16.07
HOKU-9.32
FTHR-1.16
SYNP -22.16
DWCH -9.59
KFY -1.02
ESCL -6.76
NGAS -1.42
Had I actually bought all these and reinvested remains each week in the next pick , I would have lost 76.61% of total invested. I boldly state this record will never be broken. I am the Worst Stock Picker of all Time ! It is documented here as is the record of the greatest of all time , Mr.Market.
Now the good news. In reality I still hold 4 of these with major gains in HOM and EGY lesser gain in KFY and slight loss in SPIL.

I'm not sure Lyehopper's request that people use the li'l green arrow icon (http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon2.gif) for their pick posts is a rule, per se.
It is good to in some way make your pick posts easy to spot while scrolling. It will minimize the chance of the scorekeeper's missing it while scrolling through the posts.
For everyone's general information, if the scorekeeper does miss one of your picks, and it is necessary to bring it to his attention, it's always good to provide a link to go with it. As the temporary scorekeeper, I really do love sometimes having to hunt back through several pages of 20 posts each, looking for a particular post, but it wouldn't bother me terribly if you wanted to deprive me of that fun exercise. :)

Thank you, Jiesen! That is an awful drop I made, from the Top10 to place 20, but that is life for a mechanical investor. Pete, wonderful job! The new TOP10 consists of: Pete H., DMK, Jim S., Photon, Lye, Micky, Spike, IIC, Gator, Jiesen, and Sowers.
Away dropped Gary, and Karel; new are Jiesen and Sowers. OK, folks, you are the team for the POTW+, which isn't making much of an impression right now. You are the top 10. Show it!
And I haven't joined the chorus yet to applaud Rob, the glorious winner of this "gut wrenching" week, and Lye too, with his 9+%. I think all players who scored positive deserve an accolade, and I would like to include Geri, who remained in cash and came 10th.
I discovered a small error in my scorekeeping: I only used 9 players in the calculation for the POTW+ over the last two weeks. With Gator added, the one I didn't take down, the percentages change a bit, but the points remain the same.

Karel

Sorry to say, RL, but I drew the arbitrary cutoff at 20, and you were number 21. Though your POTW score average was actually 0.0015% better than Karel's, your compounded return was -9.76%, which puts you just under Karel's -7.96%, when ranked by return/week since you both played each of the 13 weeks.
Don't worry, though, once your -25% hit from week 7 drops off for the next K-factor calculation, you'll be golden. Let's just not see a repeat of that performance next week, mmmk?

The markets have effectively wiped out what has taken months to build in the matter of 16.5 total hours. I need tissues and a shoulder....

Thank you Webs. I wish I could say it was the Goji, but no Goji. Ed's out of Goji with no relief in site. I may have to set up a distillation processing plant of my own up north here. Definitely part due to circulating within the VTP inner circle has played a part in honing my stock picking abilities to their sharpest point. My ears are beginning to point up also. MED was one of my largest holdings a couple of years ago. I was into it very heavily at around $12 -13 range and rode it all the way down to under $10 which turned it into one of my biggest losers ever. I don't know how I let it go past the 7% point but I did and then I was in way past reason and couldn't bring myself to exit the position. Ended up taking a loss somewhere around 18-20 % on that trade. Lets see if I can get some of that back. That one position ruined an otherwise decent year.

If your worst trade was only -20%...I tip my hat to you Ski...That's not so bad as long as you don't make a habit of it...Which I know you don't...My worst trade on a long position was -100% plus my buy commish...Well, actually my dad was my broker so he comped me the commish...Heck, I was only about 14 at the time.
But more recently...I bot ZIXI at about 17 and sold at 2...It wasn't a heavy trade...But I knew I shoulda been out around 12...it was a no brainer by then.
I've had plenty of disasterous trades over the years...I don't like them...especially when I know better and had time to bail w/ a small loss...But they are not that frequent and I really don't worry about them...I just try to minimize them...Sometimes I'll hold because it was a small trade...Sometimes I'll hold because I did my dd and I believe in the co. and the industry...Take WITS for example...I bot in the 14.70's in 4/04...added at 14.00 on 6/1/04...I rode it down to the 9's...In fact, I stopped mentioning it to my wife when it was tanking...Was I worried???...NO...Was I concerned???...YES...I kept thinking to myself..."Am I missing something???...Is something happenening that I don't know about"???...Well, even though it is not a Darling of Wall Street type outfit and it isn't doing that well at the moment...And I have really not made that much % wise over 2 years...As far as I'm concerned it was a fairly good LT play...I learned a lot about it...But if I had been wrong then it actually would've been disasterous to our portfolio...I would not let that much money ride like that again...But smaller amounts I still would...Doug

I think that each an everyone one of us is suseptible to what you are talking about. We know it yet we will fall prey to it occassionally. I guess we're only humans after all. Like the other day with FLOW. I loved the stock and was up 1.25 or so. I watched it begin to fall an had every chance in the book to exit as it was going down. I gave back 1.00 before I finally did what I knew I had to do and should have done 1 point earlier. Exited after I had given back the 1 point. It's going to happen occassionally to all of us no matter how smart or in control we think we are. Human emotions.

Yesterday wasn't too bad, only down a bit over 1%. But over the last week or so, my portfolio dropped 10%. That is moderately boring. But I have seen it happen before, and I have always seen my portfolio recover and more. I haven't changed my trading, so I am pretty confident this will be no different. The largest part of my portfolio is in $$$Mr.Market$$$ stocks, some other picks, and a bunch from my mechanical investing experiment.

Karel ... let me say .. u are huge!!
Rob my dart fell out of GAP please put me In ESCL thanks
Skiracer's Medifast Inc. (MED) of Owings Mills, MD (Isn't that the same place Louis Rukeyser's HQ was?) added a lot of weight today. Odd for a company that specializes in weight loss products. Nevertheless, that pick was way huge this week, dude!
We all know Gateway computers, the cute little computer systems that come in the cute little black and white boxes that look like spots on a cow. The company was losing big time to Dell and HP/Compaq a couple years ago when they tried to keep from going under by selling plasma TVs and such. Well ol' Spikefader was having none o' that this week, and decided this outfit was toast. Spike shorted GTW around noon on Monday as is currently up a huge 10.82% on the deal!
2nd runner up with 2.91% so far is yet another short play. Da Mighty Kong, a.k.a. DMK, shorted Syneron Medical Ltd. (ELOS), Israel-based maker of hair and wrinkle removal devices, whose latest skill seems to be more along the lines of removing shareholder value. This company is one you may want to keep an eye on, however, (in my own personal opinion) because it does make money, and I think it deserves a bit more respect than the market is paying it lately. That said, really, really good short there, Kong!

Outstanding ski! :D Congrats on finding a gem!
ELOS..whose latest skill seems to be more along the lines of removing shareholder value...lol at that comment. Yeah, nice short dmk; ELOS running for the Burnt Toast Award now that it's lost that major support. Channel turn down today green lights the intraday pivot short (22.53) tomorrow people. 2.5% risk to target 17.00 is r/r of 10. Now that's hard to pass up.
There are a number of players who were among us last week who are not here this week. We have to bring these lost sheep back into the fold. They are:
BJ, New-born Baby, T-Fred, and Scifos.
Formerly active players absent for two weeks in a row now are: Bjdj and Dakat.
Jim Smith has been gone for three weeks now.
Then there are nine others who used to play here who've been gone for many weeks. It would be nice to have as many as possible return, so if gentle persuasion doesn't do the trick, perhaps we can try shame and humiliation. And if that doesn't work, we can move on to things like blackmail. Does anyone have any photos of these absent players in compromising situations? Do you have their spouses' email addresses? :)

Great job on MED so far.
I was watching it late...Looked great at 15.80 with 6 mins left...If there had been about 10 mins more I would have bot for a quick trade...However, it surprised me and did go up to 16 in that short time...Missed out...IIC
Doug thanks for your concern , no I very seldom buy these picks

Thanks Spike,
Even with the big lead I can still feel you right behind me. Hope it holds up throught tomorrow. Might have to exit and just coast in Thursday and Friday. Interesting fact is that yesterday I was looking at the daily and through up a Raff Regression Channel on it an it was just about showing a channer long signal. I was thinking that except for the fact that they were reporting earnings after hours yesterday it looked like it could be getting ready for an upturn and then the earnings report came in super and that provided the impetus for the gap up this morning. Sometimes I call the company and try to talk to the information officer or VP of Sales and Marketing to get a better idea of how the qtr. is shaping up. Over the last few weeks that I have been watching this stock I have called them several times to question how they are doing an although they are not allowed to give out to much info they were very upbeat about their situation coming into reporting earnings. I felt it was ready for a pop. I got more than I expected. Now I'm looking at the same chart with the Raff Regression Channel an it looks like it is giving off a channel short signal an is somewhat overbought on the RSI indicator. I'm up $3.75 in the position in real life. In the morning I'm placing a stop up real close around $15.75 or $15.80 to lock in those gains and protect the 1000 shares I own. This is going to get me close to even with this stock. It was one of my biggest losers a couple of years ago. I was a heatbeat away from buying 2000 shares but it was in front of earnings and that held me back somewhat. Just a great feeling to catch a nice move like this.

I'm not necessarily talking about those you mentioned...But in general when the market is tough and many lose money...Posts drop off...There are very few of us that have played this game since the 60's and just keep going in good times and bad...But actually...I don't really think it is bad right now for those that are adaptable to whatever is happening...But for those that stick to one system...Do or Die...Well...Die might be apropos...IIC

In my opinion, everyone has different passions in life. Some people spend all of their waking hours at this site. Others, such as myself, have other responsibilities, and therefore go MIA from time to time. I think the scorekeeper should just put them into a market index ETF by default. Kind of a QUASI MIA pick for those who forget or are unable to play for whatever reason.

I was responding to Rob's post regarding a number of former players who are now absent. There are a lot of people who will not play if they can not do well in the standings. I personally dont care where I end up. My challenge is to try to predict the movement of an equity in a very short time. It is difficult. I think it is better to relax the rules a bit, keep people interested, have a learning experience. Of course you and I disagree on a lot of things, so it is not surprising that we disagree here also. LOL.

So you beleive in a form of "POTW Well Fare" for those members who are less fortunate in their stock picking?.... Interesting concept Tim.... Interesting.
Maybe we could tax the better players and apply the tax to say..... BillyJoe and Web's score?....LOL!!!!

Not really -- you are missing Rob's point -- I believe it is better to keep a lot of people interested and in the game -- I dont believe putting them into a QUASI security would hurt the overall standings of anyone -- if it did, then perhaps we should just play a QUSAI POTW.

So if my son was on a winning high school football team and failed to show up for football practice.... or missed a few games?.... he should not be penalized?.... Maybe the coach could give him a quasi-football trophy and hug him for his "effort".... WRONG! he'd be humiliated and kicked off the team! That's just life....
