View Full Version : Bragging Thread

I propose a new "Bragging Thread" for those who have to tell someone about their good fortune. I'll go first. I picked BMHC for the Pre-Presidential stock picking contest and it proceeded to do nothing, but what the heck I didn't own it anyway. As soon as the contest ended it started to rise so I bought at 29.90 on 11/8 and again at 31.63 on 11/17 this baby was up 3.25 today when I sold for a 20.9% gain in 22 days and a 14.3% gain in 13 days. If it pulls back I'll buy again, it's a great company sending products especially to Florida as fast as can be produced. Let's see some more braggerts on this thread.

Had a bit of a pullback, could go long again but I think the explosive days are behind. Besides, I've got no spare change at the moment as I've moved on to TOPT.

Now THAT'S a great idea. One thing helping you--this thing trades so many shares per day, that it isn't going to drop like a rock in five minutes. It looks to me that it is going to sag over time. Of course, I could be wrong.
I have never made 100% on a stock before. You have done something that is very special, IMHO. May many more come your way.

How'd you get a fractional share? was it from a weird split or reverse split? because usually you'll just get cash in lieu of fractional shares.

Well, I still hold half of my WSB, so yeah, I think that tops it- as long as WSB keeps doing what it's been doing. (not do dis your $9 profit or anything... a profit's a profit.)

Scifos, Somehow I mistakenly had an account that reinvested all dividends into stock. I'd made my goal on WSB and sold out shortly after dividend was paid. One account where dividends went to cash was ok, but I was worried about WSB's price dropping and I sold before the 2.875 shares were credited to my account. I called and was told they'd sell at no charge, but they didn't sell the fractional share. This will continue to compound and my great great great grandchild will become wealthy from this I'm sure.

I'm re-establishing this thread for anyone that would like to mention any accomplishment they've made in investments or life in general.
This isn't really bragging, but I'd like to mention two trades made today with assistance from 3 esteemed investors : IIC , Park Twain , and Jim Cramer.
Today I sold 2 takeover stocks ATYT for a 10.75% gain and SGDE for a 15.75% gain. ATYT is being acquired by AMD for 20.46 in stock and cash . SGDE is being acquired by French company PPR for approx. 31.00 in cash.
See comments from IIC (Doug) reply #4972 IIC Winners Watchlist Thread and Park Twain reply #4974 same thread regarding merger arbitrage. Along with Cramer's response to a caller yesterday concerning a similar situation I decided there was limited upside and unlimited downside in holding these stocks until the buyouts were finalized. In the case of SGDE my proceeds were < 1% from the proposed settlement price of 31.00 . For ATYT about 3% less than the 20.46 buyout number. According to Cramer there are any number of things that can go wrong and since the stocks are close to the buyout figure , very little or nothing much better can happen.
Several years ago I held a stock CDO as it approached a date it said would be when it would spinoff a subsidiary. The day it was to happen, the spinoff was cancelled , earnings were restated , the stock tanked , lawsuits were initiated and it was a total disaster. My current thinking is if anything possible can go wrong it will ..... and then some, in ways you couldn't imagine.

Why is it that Mexican Restaurants always have identical menus even when the ownership is different?
For example: I always order #29 which is two (2) Enchiladas, (1) Taco, Rice and Beans.... I swear I could travel from Virginia to California and #29 would always be the same. I think all Mexican Restaurants are linked much like OPEC controls Oil production.... Has anyone else noticed that?

I once drank a 12 pack of beer and ate a dozen doughnuts... and did NOT puke
I also fit 26 red seedless grapes in my mouth all at once.
I won $400 on a single hand of Blackjack when I split aces and the dealer busted. That was the biggest bet I've ever made while gambling, but I was scared putting up $400 when it could be taken away with a swipe of a hand. I never even saw the 2 cards dealt to me. They were face down. I don't don't gamble very much, anymore.
The closest I've come to a hole-in-one in golf was 3 inches. My longest drive (in the fairway) was 340 yards. I'm golfing more, lately, after a 4 year hiatus.
I once finished the season leading the league in home runs while playing baseball as a kid
I can curl my toes under my feet and walk up and down stairs, with all my weight on the top of my toes. I can also do jumping jacks like this.

Click USER CP above left
Click Edit Signature
Now, you can either put in your site addy using the http://.......... or you can use the html code.
Here is an Example of the html code:
<a href="http://www.Mrbreakout.com (http://www.Mrbreakout.com)" target="_blank">Click Here To Visit Mr. Breakout /a>
Notice that I left off the < before the /a> after Visit MR. Breakout...that is so you can read it here on this post....But you need to type the < back in just before the slash.
So, you replace my site addy between " " with your's and you replace my BOLD Click Here...with what ever you want to say in your hyperlinked signature...Make sense???...Hope so...Best, Doug(IIC)
. . . Example of the html code: . . .
How 'bout this? Just copy and paste this code in your signature:

Yesterday sealed the deal. I came in first place in my fantasy football league. It was a group of old highschool friends that all played ball together, so the league was alot of fun. It was calculated that after the draft, I had picked the statistically worst team in the league. Everyone has hated me because I kept beating them with the worst team (and kept reminding them of it), but it's all just fun banter... no real feelings. I mean, sheesh , it is FANTASY football. Anyway, prior to the week, I was in second place behind someone else who had the same record, but more overall points than I did. I have LT and Reggie Bush on my team, not to mention a few other studs and Chicago Defense. LT, Bush, and Chicago alone scored enough points for me to win the match-up and to get enough points for me to be ahead of the old #1. I finished in the top spot by 10 measly points, less than a 1% difference!!!
Now I have playoffs, so wish me luck. If I win, I'm throwing a party with the proceeds. Anyone coming to Pittsburgh?

I bought BRKB at 3947 on Sept. 20th this year. Today it hit 4950. 1000 point gain! Top that (in a 2 1/2 month period)

Point gains, yuk! That's a paltry 25.4%! On Sept 4th I bough MTL at 43.57, now 99.89 (129.3%); on Sept 10th I bought VIP at 24.75, now 38.91 (57.2%); on Sept. 17th I bought PCU at 111.19, now 117.68 (a disappointing 5.8%); on Nov. 5th I bought LXU at 26.76, now 23.07 (a grovellingly bad -13.8%); on Dec. 3rd I bought SID at 76.33, now 85.19 (11.6%). Those were my last real money buys starting with September. The gains average 32% over an average holding period of just under 2 months. Who needs Warren Buffet?

Geez Karel,
Thought 1003 point gain was good but now that you mention your MTL and VIP % I guess it's just so so. It's not fair though cause you get quotes about 5 hours ahead of us. Poor old Doug (IIC) has to wait 8 hours. Surprising that he can ever make any $$.

Billyjoe,
Don't ever let anyone tell you that your play on BRBK isn't a phenominal trade. 1003 in two+ months is pretty darn good in my book. Here's my latest: 6000 shares of ZIXI @ $3.80 on 11/28/07 and closed yesterday 12/08/07 at $5.65. That's a 1.85 gain for an $11,100 profit in 10 days. TASR has doubled since my entry on 6/07. I backed the truck up on that one. 3000 shares at $7.75 and am still holding at $15.66. That's 7.91 points for $23,730 gain and not done yet. I think it goes to $30 before the coming spring.
VIP was a big gainer on the short side this year. 8 or 9 point gain a few months back and I now own it on the long side. I'm in DO from $112.50 and it closed @ $125.30 Friday. Up 12.8 points since 10/16. I'm not going to list the losers but I have had my share just that on most of the stock plays I always cut the losses at 7% but a few I have let go farther than that. MSFT options was a big bust out and I let them go to 0 just to feel the pain and learn a lesson that I thought I had already learned. But caught it again on the rebound from the $28/30 levels and am still holding a few hundred shares. Bragging doesn't do it for me. I like winning and making the money much moreso.

Just kidding :) I had a nice break, and you had a nice BRK. But you're wrong about the time: I get the open prices not before 15:30. Doug seems to be the lucky guy.

Ski,
I'm real impressed with your TASR trade. Once a stock gets on my sh#& list it almost never gets off.

Your letting your emotions get in the way Billyjoe. Throw them out the window and let the chart be your gospel.
