Ski, the photo’s where taken in the early 90's. I was stationed at Ft Bragg, NC. I was assigned to 3/325th ABN/Recon. I’m also familiar with Fast roping. We use to slid down the ropes on top of building. Nice adrenaline rush!!

The photos are taken during what is called a Hollywood jump. We use to love these kind of jumps because we had no combat gear strapped to us. This jump I think was about 3,000 feet above ground level (AGL). Notice the chute. With these chutes we had little toggles that we would pull to allow us to control our direction. I use to love to pull into the wind to try to max the hang time. Every now and then you would get caught in a current that would keep you up in the air for a while. That was cool.

Most jumps are not Hollywood, but what we call Mass Tac, this is when can file out both doors from a C-130 with combat gear on. Normally these jumps where in the middle of the night. Hang time would not be very long. Mass tac’s where sometimes crazy. We would sometimes have about 5,000 paratroopers all hitting the drop zone at one time.

We were always in a hurry to hit the ground and get out of the way. Full combat packs and the next guy was right on top of you an at night in the dark. That was forty years ago.

NOW on to my next series of pictures....

When a cow loses a calf many farmers will sell the cow at market the next week or so. They have no tolerance for a non productive cow.

I have a different idea about this. When one of my cows has a calf die I get her another calf and I MAKE her adopt it. It's highly likely that (next year) her next calf will be born perfectly fine so I want to keep her around and give her another chance.... PLUS she's already making milk so why not let her raise an adopted calf. Here's how it's done....

A cow knows her calf very well. She knows it's scent and she will NOT let another calf suck her. She will push any calf away that tries and even kick them if they persist. So how do you "fool her" into taking another calf?.... and where do you get an orphan calf to give her?.... Easy! You go to the nearest dairy and get a fresh new bull calf (up to about two weeks old will work). btw.... Dairy farmers sell off their bull calves and keep the heifers and raise them as replacements. You can buy a little Holstein bull calf for about $100.

Now how to fool her into taking the calf?.... Well first you gotta skin-out her dead calf.... Then you take the skin and make a little coat out of it. Then you place the skin on the orphan calf. then you put the cow in a head gate and let the little dude suck her all he wants to.... Now he knows who his new mama is.... and he'll want to continue getting that milk. Also at a week or two old, he has more strength than a newborn and he'll be persistant.... NOW you move him around to where her head is (in the head gate) and let her sniff the skin (coat) on his back. Then you simply turn them both into a barn lot. Give her grain and water and come back the next morning and you'll find a happy cow and calf. Yep!!!! she's completely taken him and she'll raise him up to 600 pounds for you!

The following pictures were taken about this time last year the morning after I put this orphan with his new mama. Notice the skin on the orphan calves back. Notice how protective the cow is of him. Notice how she licks him and cleans him after I removed her dead calf's skin.... COOL huh?

I have done this many many times and NEVER had it fail. I even had a cow lose a heifer calf that was over two months old and I fooled her into taking a week old bull calf. lol

That little white holstein calf in the picture was sold (as a steer) back in Janurary 2006, he weighed nearly 750 pounds and I got right at $1 per pound at the Lynchburg Livestock market....je...je...je

If we get together in Atlantic City this summer I'll show you a great time weakfishing off the Barnegat inlet or Manasquan inlet rocks or in waders in the back bay behind the Barnegat inlet at night when the moon is shining off the water and you're standing in about 3' of water and you hook into one about 24/28 inches. That's hard to beat.

The best I've done so far was probably about 7 lbs which is a monster for Iowa. I released it so the weight is only an estimate. A 100 lbs Taimen or Tarpon someday is another goal. Oh, and I forgot about my Grander fantasy (Blue Marlin).

I too would love to hook a lunker largemouth. I used to be quite a freshwater fisherman in my youth, probably spending all day on the weekends in the summer on Cape Cod fishing. Best I ever did was catch a 3 lb bass, though I must have caught thousands of them.

Never tried it in Florida, my guess is my luck would be a bit better.

Bean,
Are you in Seattle now? The striper spring run is just beginning on the Jersey shore. I'm in Toms River, NJ and for the last couple of weeks I have been hitting the beach a couple of mornings real early before sunrise depending on the moon cycle and the tides. No luck yet but the water is warming up considerably an it won't be long. I'm strickly a lure guy but the guys using worms and clams are getting them regularly now. I'm building over on the beach right now and have an office trailer 1 block from the water so it's easy for me to store my waders and rods and tackle in the trailer and get changed there. Anyone in the area who wants to try it out can look me up or call me at: 732-830-1077 office land line or 201-832-3880 cell. I can set it up for any morning around 4:30/5:00 am until 8:00 am. In another week or so when the weather breaks and the water really starts to warm up this is some of the best beaches and striper fishing you'll find.

Well, here's what you've all been waiting for...Now sit back, take a deep breath and be prepared for a couple of First Time (Well, actually the second one appeared on a couple of other sites once) Photos of the "REAL" Mr. Breakout aka IIC aka Doug.

Actually, I don't think they are very good...But what's my opinion against millions of others???

The first one is just Me...The second one is Me and the Mrs...If anyone would like one for their wallet just let me know...

This was taken at a morning market in Shanghai at about 6:00 AM...As soon as I got back to the hotel room I changed shirts. I was getting some cold stares.

Here's a photo of my Great Uncle...He was the rich one in the family...He founded a brokerage firm in 1932 that is still independent.

You can read about the company on their site: http://www.crowellweedon.com

Funny, my Granddad, Uncle and my Dad were all brokers...The main reason I didn't go that route was because when I got out of college in 1975 the market was the pits...Doug(IIC)

What are you guys using to actually post open pictures? When I try from the site, it asks me for the pictures "url". My pics don't have urls so what gives. you using imageshack or something?

And for the record, you're very nice looking. You look like someone I'd be buds with. (and no I don't mean the "I jus wanna be friends" thing that some women say to goofy guys, I mean you look like a good guy.)http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

NOshadylady,
It is pretty straightforward:
1. Scan a picture into your computer, or else download one from a digital camera.
2. Go to MS Paint, and crop, edit, distort, or whatever else you want to do to it.
3. Save it to something; I usually save it to my desktop so I can find it again lol
4. Then go to imageshack, and let imageshack host it.
5. Copy the link that says "Hot link for forums."

NOshadylady,
To post an image, simply click on "post reply" like you would for any post. Then write whatever you wish to write, and when you post your image, simply use "paste." You do not need to go to the "insert image" function at all. You just click on paste, and you are done! :D

Daskro,
Defense industry? My family has done well within it. My cousin went to Univ. of Tennessee in Knoxville, and upon graduation, got a job with Texas Instruments making classified stuff for Star Wars. He invented something that won him some award from Bush '41.

My sister's son just finished college and landed a job with Boeing.

What are you looking at? Unisys? Lockheed? You don't have to tell if it's classified. . . .

Indeed. I go to Creighton University in Omaha and plan to work for Lockheed or General Dynamics. While I'll take just about anything to get my feet wet, I'm aiming towards Sanders (Subsid of Lockheed), Northrup Grumman or General D for network centric warfare development and robotics.

About Star Wars, it's too bad that Star Wars back during Bush 41' was more hype than results, but there is quite a ressurgance in the missile defense field with the development of new communication technologies and computing. Omaha (Offutt AFB) does quite a lot of development in Missile Defense. If I stay in Omaha more likely than not I'd be working in that division, perhaps your cousin can give me some pointers. :D

BTW, sorry about the strongly contrasting shadows in that pic I put up. As you can tell from the angle of the shadows, it was taken only minutes before sundown, and the sunlight was pretty strong.

In fact, just about 5 or 10 minutes later I strolled over toward the beach and took this picture of the sunset. Of course the picture doesn't do it justice. They never do.

Stky,

Maybe you dad is making excuses about being busy with work. You should give that some thought. Give this woman a break will you. I'm sure that you both have made Riverbabe feel real comfortable here. I don't think StkyTreat was laughing at your pictures. I think he was laughing at the dichotomy.

Anytime that you post fantasy, you set yourself up for all kinds of comments. I find that the best approach to a new situation / group is up-front honesty and seriousness until others get a better feel for the person you really are.

But hey, that picture is nice anyway you look at it :)

And you'll recognize I am NOT holding a Swordfish! Actually, if there were salmon in my river I would be right in there wading and flying! As it is, I have to settle for perch and northern pike here. I love to fish too Riverbabe.... We have a couple of good rivers here that I like to fish, the James River and the New River. Small Mouth Bass are one of my favorites to catch in our rivers, I use an ultralight spinning rig and a small Rapala. We have a Native river fish here called the "Roanoke Red-eye". In my opinion The red-eye is one of the tastiest fish I've ever fried. My second favorite "eatin' fish" is Crappie (black & white).

Peanuts,
I go every Wednesday or Thursday to Hunter or Windham in NY. We must ski together this season or take a long weekend and hook up to go to Vermont. Somewhere like Stratton is great skiing and better "apres ski". Not quite as good or as big as Heavenly but great skiing. Steep and somewhat narrow spruce and fir lined runs. Lots of times it will snow while we're up there and we ski in fresh powder although not as dry and as light as out west. You must ski well to be skiing that area.

The last time I was on Kerr, we were trolling along for stripers and we (my dad and I) both fell asleep. A loud horn from a passing boat finally woke us before we crashed into an island. Probably wouldn't have wrecked the boat since we were at trolling speed, but Boy that was embarrassing.

Be careful being close to those huge screens Doug. they might be transmitting something that is harmful to your health. I just picked up a nice laptop PC. I like HP's I got a DV8309. Thing is awesome in widescreen format. It makes looking over charts much more enjoyable.

Runner,
I'm not sure how long we have known each other through this forum and IBD before it but a simple photo makes it like you really know the person. Pretty neat. I was told the same thing about the chicks liking shorter hair on a man. It still wouldn't do me any good at this point in time. Nice background color on those trees.

Is this picture taken in Calloway Gardens? I haven't been there, but I went to a state park nearby, last year- Roosevelt's Little White House (http://gastateparks.org/info/littlewhite/) in Warm Springs, GA. I love places like that. It's little niches like that that you learn those rare bits of knowledge that only a few people know: FDR would periodically wreck his custom made car as he would have to take his hands of the wheel in order to shift gears. His car was also the first to ever have anything similar to modern day cruise control.

I hope the next picture, the one with the dog and you, isn't the picture of you and your wife that you promised us? :D :p I don't think she would find that very funny! :)

Lil' Lye turned three in July.... So I figured he's old enough to go deer hunting with me.... Plus he's been bugging me to death to go.lol!

I shot this doe yesterday morning with him at my side. He listened to me well and he stayed very quiet and sat still like I told him to. I told him what to expect when the rifle reported and whispered for him to plug his ears before I shot. He was watching the deer @ about 100 yards and he saw her fall....

He helped me field dress the deer and asked me a million questions about the deer's guts. He now knows that he too has similar guts inside himself.... He knows what a stomach, intestines, liver, lungs, etc., look like.

More importantly.... Lil' Lye knows (first hand) the damage done when the muzzle of a firearm is aimed at a living creature. He knows guns are a very serious tool and that they are NOT toys. (I don't let him "play guns" not even with a stick, as I was not allowed to "play guns" as a child)

After I shot the deer and we walked over to it, I explained that this animal was forever dead and I showed him the exit wound made by the bullet. He asked me about the all the blood.... I let him pat the dead animal's side and look it over.... I let him handle the rifle.... and I worked the action and unloaded it and answered many questions about the rifle, then I gave him the spent cartridge to keep.... I see him remove it from his pocket from time-to-time and smell the burnt powder.

My deer rifle is leaning up in the corner of my office right now (unloaded of course) and he completely ignores it. Mission accomplished.... Btw, my father taught me gun safety in a very similar way.

Oh yeah.... Mrs. Lyehopper cooked up a fine meal of fried tenderloin, gravy, rice, corn and biscuits last night.... We enjoyed it very much.... Lil' Lye was proud that he helped put food on the table.

Well-Sir, in VA there are hunting regulations West of the Blue Ridge.... There are regulations East of the Blue Ridge....

And then there's Lyehopper Hollow hunting regulations. Now, as the acting game commissioner here I have the authority to modify regulations from time-to-time depending on current circumstances.... jejeje!

Seriously though, I live East of the Blue Ridge (Bedford County). "Either-sex" deer can be harvested all season long during general firearms season on private land.... BTW, Bedford County has the highest whitetail population in the state.

Lye, Congrats on your booty!
plus: YOU HAVE THE CUTEST BOY! What fun he must be!
My deer/dear story: I was walking in the Forest Preserve in Chicago last week, 6 doe grazing on something ... I heard their mom calling when I approached, but they didn't move ... probably too young to be afraid of people. Then again, no gun permits at the Forest Preserve. Anyway, I went back yesteday to show my 10 year old, but they were nowhere to be found. Good thing Andrew brought his football, it wasn't a total loss.

Best,
Geri

Hey Geri.... how's it going?

Picture me (in full cammo) stalking thru that Chicago park with my deer rifle..... A Park Ranger approaches me cautiously, I respond..... "Ummmmm.... No-Sir, I had no idea I couldn't hunt in here, What!?.... I'm from VA, Why?.... Well, I sorta have permission and everything.... see my friend Geri? well, she's like a TV star around here, she told me it was a good place to bag a whitetail, she says the deer population is getting out of control and she comes here all the time.... she says her and her son "just have a ball" when they come here!.... Well yeah! she lives near here! why?"....LOL!
