I feel like it's time to start a thread for some picks. I have learned a ton from everyone here. Thank you to everyone for all your help in my process. I am not sure if I will list daily, weekly or whenever I have time.
Finding bullish stocks seems great, but finding bullish stocks near support has been extremely helpful for me when looking for stocks to trade. I will run a search that looks for stocks that fit that scenario and have high levels of implied volatility over the last three months.
There's about 25-50 that come up every day, I will try and narrow them down to the best ranked for ERG (earnings, revenue and growth). I will also be looking at MACD and Stochastics along with 30 day MA. I have been trading options recently, so if I buy any that I list, the time frame would be from a few days to a few weeks and for me the chart will outweigh the ERG but I prefer to see both, a nice ERG with a good chart indicator for entry. The option is only as good as it's underlying stock.
I have had a lot of success recently using this method. I have also made money on every one of $$$Mr. Market's$$$ picks using the charts for an entry. Oh yea, these would do well in an UP trending market.
A few that caught my eye tonight 4/29 are QCOR, YCZ, RGLD

Nice thread. Are you using the 5/30MA with MACD to time your entry? I've seen a few sites that uses this method.

Did you see QCOR today???!!! up 12% while the DOW is down 110 pts.
Wooish, The first chart that will come up is a 6 month chart that has the 30 day MA. My indicator on stochastics is once it goes over 25 or it looks like it's getting ready to. Then from those, I have been looking at the 3 month from there.

So u look at full stoch and 30MA, do you also use the RSI and MACD?

I do use MACD and sometimes I do look at RSI, but I have my chart set for full stochastics, MACD and 30 day MA.

I recetnly bought call options in FLIR, HOV, QCOR, CTSH ($$$MM$$$pick), F, DELL and GFI during the past few days to a few weeks back and still holding.
I had some real nice winners in the past 8 weeks with HA, BYI, SRCL, CXW, EGO, VSH, C, BUCY ($$$MM$$$), RDWR, KLIC.
My losers were HEAT and EBIX using this criteria. The overall return from the above closed trades was 41%. Again, these were all options.
I still wish I would have found $$$Mr. Market$$$ about a year earlier than I did. Anyway, I look forward to still learning from everyone here and I want to make a ton of money together!

I read about this one on motley fool stock advisor. I checked Mr M's scale and it scored 104. I didn't read any disclaimers saying they had been paid to promote this stock. First ---does anyone know this site and am I wasting my time reading anything from there or what? The way they make it sound YUM is supposed to be the next Mc D's in China !!! Umm I've heard that so many times before. Also, what do you think of ITMN. I read somewhere, not sure now--- my mind is melting with all this research. The FDA is supposed to decide by this coming Tuesday on a treatment for lung disease, which would be the ONLY ONE to treat this certain type of lung disease. If approved... this certainly would shoot the stock up. Any thoughts. If this stuff is old news, my apologies, I'm new at this game and haven't read all the earlier posts.

Re: ITMN Here is part of the article I read on PR newswire.
Though the Advisory Committee's recommendations are not binding, they will be considered as the FDA completes its review of the New Drug Application (NDA) for Esbriet. Esbriet received Orphan Drug, Fast Track and Priority Review designations by the FDA. Priority Review designation may be granted by the FDA to an NDA for drugs that have the potential to offer major advances in treatment, or provide a treatment where no adequate therapy exists. A target date of May 4, 2010 has been set under the Prescription Drug User Fee Act (PDUFA).
Does anyone know anything about this trial? Do you think this might be too risky for entry at this time? My gut tell's me that there is more potential for this stock to drop with any hint of bad to neutral news and increase slightly with expected good news. IMO

I did see YUM on Motlley' SA. The buy/entry was in early March at $34 ish and most of us don't like to chase. Motley's SA is nice. I subscribed to it last year. I would look at their 2 picks every month and see if they met the criteria I was looking for. If it did, I bought, if it didn't I wouldn't.

Any thoughts on BP after it bottoms out and support is established?
Sucks what's happening to the Gulf coast. I'm flying down to Texas for a serious kayak flyfishing camping trip to the Laguna Madre in 2 weeks, I hope it's not the last time I see those pristine white dunes. I was hoping to fish the surf but might have to stay in the bay. We'll have to see where the wind and tide takes this massive spill? The Chandelier Island Chain is getting a direct hit right now, so sad. :(

you'll be just in time for the oil slick. the whole louisiana and north texas coastline is going to take the brunt of it. what will you be fishing for. bonefish in the shallows?

No bonefish in Texas, I wish. You can find the Odd snook or two starting from Corpus Christi down to the the boarder. I'm going to be mid Texas coast, she might get spared. The last longest undeveloped shoreline in the US, 60 miles of 4 wheel only accessible federal land. We will go down with 2 trucks and a trailer with kayaks, camp for 4 - 5 days. No trees, lots of heat, bugs, snakes and grass flats as far as the eye can see with tailing redfish and speckled trout on the Baffin bay side. Known for the biggest specks in the world. On the front side of this beautiful barrier island is the Gulf where on a flat day you can catch anything from a 2 lb spanish mack to a monster tiger shark. This time of year you can drive up and down the beach and watch for birds crashing bait, Cardiac city. Just like a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get. I've got a 12 wt fly rod ready for 150 # Tarpon if they decide they want to play. I'm an addicted to the life of flyfishing and have gear for any style or fish. Love hitting the Cano Negro in Costa Rica. That Contra war was good for something. Last major spill to hit the Texas coast was over 20 yrs ago and that was nothing like this one. Took along time to recover.
It will be interesting to see how this BP mess turns out. Any thoughts of playing BP at all after there expected plunge ?? Or do you think that it is just too unpredictable to risk anything ?

Oil and Gas Integrated is not the best sector right now. BP is somewhat overvalued. I would wait for the correction. There was a huge sell off the last couple of days. The last 3 months, it had a nice climb and probably would still be climbing if not for the spill. My entry would have been early March at $55. We will just have to keep an eye on it.
I was looking through some stocks and here are a few that meet the criteria as of tonight.
CISG Insureace-misc.
ALXN Biotech Investools has a projected price of $579 a share
HANS Beverage-non alcoholic, a little overvalued but may bounce off of support.
I will be buying some calls for ALXN on Mon or Tuesday. I want to see what the market futures are for Monday morning.

Im familiar with that part of the texas coastline from Corpus Christi down to brownsville/matomoros and ive fished that area numerous times. i thought we used to catch bonefish there but snook are kind of similiar in shape and fight arent they. i spent alot of time along the eastern mexican coastline back in the late 60's thru the mid 70's and i have caught spanish mackerel and tarpon along the mexican coastline between matamoros and tampico. we always flew into corpus christi and drove down to brownsville/matamoros and crossed the border there and then continued down the coast. i have plenty of fond memories of corpus christi. nice city. some of the very best big brown buds come from that area of mexico.
im an avid surf fisherman here at the jersey coast. bring your gear. some real good fly fishing in our barnegat bay for stripers, weakfish, and bluefish right in our backyard. im fishing 3-4 times a week now during the spring striper run.
i couldnt see making any kind of a play other that shorting or buying puts on BP right now. this situation in the gulf is only going to get worse and they dont seem to have any control over it yet. BP is responsible for the cost factor and it looks like it could rukn into the billions.

I grew up bass fishing in southern Colorado. The only thing I know about that area of Texas is South Padre Island. We went down there for Spring Break a few years back. We stayed in Brownsville and hit Matamoros a few nights as well. I was doing a little different kind of fishing back then. I know we always caught our daily limit :D

Those really were the good ol dayz. I'm so lucky I'm not dead or in a Matamores jail looking at my buddies with a 5 foot beard. Cheap liquor, free women, all the dope a 20 yr old could handle and then I would catch 8 # specks behind louise backyard. Now they don't want to rob you, they want to kill you. I was OK with the bribe thing. On the Island-- Jet skis tearing up what was once pristine trophy speck fishing. I couldn't believe it, I'd have the worst hangover and be the only one fishing while looking at thousands of rooms with spring breakers presumably passed out. World class fishing hole surrounded by thousands of teenagers and 20 somethings and I'm solo catching trophy specks!!! Hangover cured .
Bonefish are in Texas, it's just that they are so rare and are not known to reside there. Only the odd lost one or two that migrate from Mexico. Snook are becoming more common but are still considered rare. The highest concentrations of snook are going to be South bay next to Port Isabel and the South Padre Jetties. With this Global warming, who knows', you might hear of bonefish spawning in Texas.
This spill really sucks. It could hit the gulf stream and creep all the way to you guys. Scary stuff. I also vacation in Destin Florida, for those who have been there know how devastating this will be to the panhandle when it hits.
I hope it doesn't affect your stripper fishing, I've never been there for that but am aware that it competes as one of the best fishing places in the world. A little kept secret, kind of like Texas. People say Oregon, Washington, ID, MT or better yet Alaska. I live in Washington State. Tell you what, I have fished almost everywhere and I would take take Texas over anywhere from my personal experience and then I would take the upper east coast for exploring the Coastal strippers next. For exotics I would hit the Cano Negro in Costa Rica and get those 200 lb freshwater Tarpon, 50 # snook and 15 # rainbow bass that make bucket mouths look like wimps.
Thanks alot for the $$ advice. I'm a late bloomer in this game and know enough to lose my a$$ if I'm not careful. Going back to my honey do list on this dreary weekend in the PNW. Gearing up for South Texas, then I'll do a 5 day float/camp trip down the Deschutes River in Oregon either that or Montana for the Salmon fly hatch. I'll figure that out on the fly.

the barnegat bay backbay area by barnegat lighthouse provides some of the best early spring striper fishing on the east coast. surpassed only by the chesapeake bay and the barrier islands off the carolinas. theres a large area of shallows off of what they call sedge island where you can use a kayak or shallow draft boat like a carolina skiff or just use your waders and walk out on to them. then in the summer the weakfish come in and the fishing is great. alot of guys using fly fishing setups out on those flats for weakfish. the weakies are the best eating of them all in my opinion. they call them seatrout. yellow and green and speckled sides and underbodies like frest water trout except much larger. ive caught them 30 in. and 8-10 lbs. soft mouths and not real big fighters but good eating.

WOW:eek: 30 inch Specks? If it's the same weakfish we get in Texas, that is huge. Three types of weakfish I know, Speckled trout, sand trout and gulf trout. They have two fangs and a yellow mouth from their shrimp diet. All are excellent table fair. Problem is, only the specks will keep in a freezer, the other two get mushy when thawed, so you just have to have a big fish fry or let em go. The specks we get put up a pretty good fight and are awesome jumpers. Of coarse I'm hooking them in less than two feet of water most of the time. Even when I lived in Texas and ran my boat in 8 inches of water at 55 MPH, I couldn't wait to anchor and jump out to start wading and do the Texas two step. There mouths are very weak hence weakfish and have to be played as such. Also a very spooky fish in shallow water and have to be stalked carefully. Where as Redfish you can spot them 25 feet a way, do a roll cast hook em and horse em. I was really hoping for the surf to get flat and be wide open, but this spill may change that for a long long time. Only silver lining is I might be able to get my son to move from Texas to Washington state. He was almost inconsolable when I talked to him today. He will spend his last nickle to go offshore on overnight trips. Now that might change. I would chance messing with his girl before messing with his fish.
I need to make the time to hit those stripers one of these springs. I have so many places I like to go it's very difficult to do it all but I'm trying my best :D
Good luck in the morning

steel,
This is a great thread with unlimited potential, but I have a few questions. At the Barchart.com website they seem to use your support point as their pivot point with a lower number for support. Here's what they have today.
Stock------Closing Price------Pivot-----Support
TTC-----------55.16-----------55.38------54.13
HOG----------32.91-----------33.23------31.92
FAST---------54.98-----------55.02------53.67
UA------------34.01-----------33.95------32.99
TDY-----------43.41-----------43.41------42.61
HTZ-----------12.93-----------12.97------12.48
I think you're talking about the same thing using different terminology. Assuming most of these break out above current levels do you have a set sell point in mind or do you adjust based on moving resistance? Thanksv and keep up the good work.

Thanks Billy,
When I was trading stocks my exit was when 3 things would happen. These would not necessarily happen on the same day.
1. If the price dropped below it's 30 day MA
2. Stochastics dropped below 75
3. MACD went negative
If all 3 of these are in place I could sell. However I had been setting a stop at 3% below the current price at this point because I didn't want to lose out on a bounce at support. I would always take profit at 15% unless these indicators suggested the stock is still moving up. Or I would ask Ski where he thought it would be headed, LOL
My entry has always been the complete opposite.
1. price moved above it's 30 day MA
2. Stochastics was above 25 and still turned up
3. MACD is positive and still turned up.
Since I have slowly moved into options, all these still hold. I still look at these for my entry and exits.

Investools has a projected price of $137.82. Gross profit went from $177 million in 2008 to $250 million in 2009. NET income went from $22 million to $56 million during the same time frame. Also, take a look at the earnings estimates. I am lovin' me some coffee today. Seems like people will always drink coffee and buy clothes, shoes, beer and liquor in good times and bad.

The S&P's stochastic turned up above 25 at the end of May about the same time as MACD histogram went positive above 0. It's 30 day MA is 1139 and it's at 1102. If it crosses the 30 day, we should be in for a nice ride up. Let's hope for positive news and headlines. Hope everyone is doing well.

Actually I think that's asking a lot in this economic environment. If it weren't the government and GS spinning bad news to good, the S&P would be at 600 by now. Only a handful of websites that publish the fact about bad news around the world and www.zerohedge.com is one of them. I read this site everyday just to check how much our government is lying to us.

It's always tempting to take the profit when it pops up like that in a few days. Then you have TODAY. I am trying to take the day to day emotional roller coaster out of these trades by making the entry and exits based on the charts/indicators and then I will end up asking you anyway LOL.

Today in my scan, CBEH China Integrated Energy came up along with 4 others but the chart looks the best.
It's currently trading at $9.15. It has a projected price of $18.49. It's EPS rank is 85. Before the markets tanked at the beginning of May, it was at $12. On Wednesday it closed above it's 30 Day MA, MACD and Stochastics are still pointing up as well. The only negative is it has low volume, avg vol is 340,000.
I currently have a limit order in for a September $10 call. Still holding calls in LULU sep ($$$MM$$$), GMCR sep, ALXN aug, FSLR july, CBI july.

They can trend up the market as long as they want because the trade bots are in control. Agreed. It's so hard to get a read right now and I would have been much more excited if he had good volume on the rally days. All were below average volume. Let's just stick to picking great companies on sale. It seems when there is a company with great fundamentals; earnings, revenue and growth they don't tank as much on the down days. They seem to pop up a little more on the up days.

There are more stocks but I am choosing 1, becasue I have been swamped recently. In addition to my wife, kids, work (going through a transition), VoiParty, trying to finish my options class, I accepted a position coaching HS Linebackers. I don't know how I am going to pull it all off, but I have to find a way. Anyway, here is one stock that matches all my criteria.
EMS Emergency Medical Services
Great Fundamentals, its EPS rank is 93. Stochastics is turned upward and it's right about 50, MACD Histogram is in positive territory. I like to look for stocks near support but this one is actually approaching resistance. If it can break through its 30 day MA I think it can take a ride back to the the $55 level. It's currently at $47.
Also, Misc. Transportation is a top performing sector right now. By doing a top down analysis from S&P over the last 3-4 weeks, we are uptrending, top sector and the best stock in the sector, this has all the makings of a winner. Also, Investools has a projected value of $72.97

Ok, I know it's been crazy out there but, I really like GMCR. I am long on this one. I bought some September $25 calls today. GMCR ranks very high in earnings, revenue and growth.

Pete, you know pyramid schemes are illegal right? This is not a pyramid scheme. However, we are a direct sale, network marketing company in the telecommunications industry.
To answer your question, it would be very expensive for the company to locate 1.3 million devices nationwide. At&T, Verizon, Qwest have hundreds of millions and billions a year in overhead. Our members are the network. We are providing a dedicated land line and an internet connection for the company to route calls through. Since we are providing this, they are paying us for the useage. This gives the company an extremely low overhead compared to the industry. This allows them to provide the lowest cost route. They pay the members/device owners 70% of the total revenue generated. This is a Billion dollar a month revenue stream that is in place. We are the foundation of the company. Without the devices in our homes, there is no business. The company needs us for this whole system to work.
Oh yeah, Pete...what does this have to do with FCFS? LOL

This is what a perspective member of the business would want to know. He would be trying to ascertain how long it would take to recoup his initial investment.

Hello Pete,
First and foremost, we are not looking for anyone right now to buy a device and not spread the word and refer new members. We are building an peer to peer InterExchange network through word of mouth, viral marketing. If someone buys a device and doesn't refer anyone that does not help us grow.
However, to answer your questions if someone buys a device and doesn't spread the word; That person could drop the long distance part of their phone bill, saving $20-$30 a month in long distance. So this would pay for the device within 8-9 months. This is what my wife and I did. You would receive free long distance calling through your device. You would probably make about 10 bucks a month with your own device. When Phase 2 is over, when 1.3 million devices are in place, they will move into phase 3 which is retail phone service. The are projecting 20 million customers and all of these will also route through our network. You would see a fairly decent amount of money with this. Then they will have internet service in Phase 4, then Phase 5 which is iTV. Lots of room to grow in this industry.
Pete, if you refer just 1 person you would qualify your device into the network, and would share in the revenues of the whole network. Especially since I am actively bringing new members in. You would receive a share in this. I have one person that I am working with right now that says he's going to have 5000 sign ups within a year since he works with national organizations for fund raising. If this happens, you would see $5000 a month minimum.
I just don't know where you can spend $287 one time, and have the potential to see thousands of dollars a month of residual income without anything more to buy. That was a very easy risk for me to take, a no-brainer especially since I will burn that on a good night out with nothing to show for it besides an empty wallet the next morning.
When I bought this, there were no guarantees. I bought this before the network went live. I bought this on pure faith, that the company could do what they said they were going to do. Well, it's not in the idea stage anymore. The network is live, the devices are real, calls are terminating and fees are being generated. I hope this helps clarify what we are doing. We are still in our infancy as well. We are approaching 20,000 members.

Everyone,
Yesterday I bought some PUDA $12.50 Dec calls about 11am. I was a few days late but it should run up for a bit. PUDA had huge volume today, up 146% from it's daily average.......AND ....just set a new 52 week high today
Coal is also a top ranked sector right now.
I set some limit orders on some other positions for tomorrow. I might not be in or able to watch the market. I will have a cold, refreshing adult beverage in my hand at all times tomorrow as I will be celebrating the day I was born :D Happy early Veteran's day to everyone!!

CCME is looking really good. On a little dip, current price is $16.70, projected price is $66. It's right at 30 day support, stochastics is getting ready to turn up, MACDH is at -.55 turning up, should go positive soon. If it bounces off of support, next resistance is around $22.

Today I sold my call options in ALXN. I had bought the Dec $75 calls on 10/28 for $1.00. Today I sold them for for 2.70 :D Let's see, I held them for about 3 weeks for a 170% return. The market is taking a crap today (Dow down 130 pts, S&P down 13pts) and ALXN is at a 52 week high! I think it will still go up, look at the chart. However, I am taking my profit. On some plays in the past, I have let them run only to see them come down (still profitable) when the markets tank. Plus with options you have time decay and that starts to kick in under 30 days till expiration. For the record, Investools has a projected price of $510 and ALXN still meets all criteria to still buy right now.

Today I picked up some call options in UCBI thanks to Pete Hansen. Good volume lately. It just crossed above its 30 day MA. It's not the most fundamentally sound company. Nice play. As long as the markets don't tank, get the Santa Claus rally going, you should hit that easily. It went from $15 to $17 in about 4 weeks.
I just picked up some CCME March $17.50 calls. I saw tha an officer/director just had an open market purchase of 100,000 shares at $15.00 on 12/09/10. Their total holdings are 104,000. That has to be a good sign if an insider put down $1.5 million on their own stock.

However, did you see where UCBI finished today? $2.45, up 17.79% on a 122% increase of average volume. Gotta love that. There has also been some insider buying in the last 4 weeks. There is .50 ask on the table for the March $2.50 calls. I hope this keeps running up for a couple more weeks.

I also think MHR is ready for a breakout. It's above it's 30 day MA, close to support, and stochastics is now above 50 pointing up and MACDH is about to go positive. If we do this and break resistance should get to $7 in a hurry.

I was told in my options class that only 3 out of 10 options trades are winners but the winners will run. The winners would outweigh the losers. This seemed low to me at the time but, what did I know. I was just starting out a year ago learning about these crazy strategies.
Well, I have never been average and with the help of my course, some software, some virtual coaching and GREAT minds here, I have slapped the teeth out of the averages.
Out of my last 14 closed option trades, I had 9 winners and 5 losers. The span was from August 26, 2010 until 11/9/2010 with a total return of 88.96% :D
I had positions in GMCR FCFS EZPW ($MM$ pick) ANV EGO GFRE HOV CGA MIPS (Pete's pick) ZAGG ALXN VIT SVM PUDA
Italicized symbols were the winners.
I am currently IN, MHR TQNT UCBI CCME AXTI

A few minutes ago I sold my Jan $12 calls in TQNT. I still like TQNT and it's still trending up, but Jan options expire next week so It was good to take profit now. Any news or down turn in the market, making the stock drop a bit would crush the option price.
Bottom line, bought 11/29 for .74 and sold today 1/12 for 2.00. That's a 170% gain in roughly 6 weeks.
I am not sure if I posted earlier but I bought some $14 Feb calls in TQNT last week. Current price is $13.93, trading above 30 day MA, stochastics is above 75 and MACD but pointing down. This could pull back a little and then bounce off of 30 day support and go higher. Let's keep the MOMO rollin'

Steel, this is from a paid subscriber site: www.stocktiming.com

Update for Friday, February 25th. ...
1. Special Chart 2, Short Term VIX: This new chart shows the short term view of the VIX during the past 5 days. Note the support at 20 on the chart. If the VIX can close below 20 today, then it has a chance to drop into the 17's which would be market positive. However, if it closes above 21, then the risk for Monday morning could be very high.
2. Cautionary Note: The current VIX spike is "event" related due to the Libyan revolt. There is talk of a possible Libyan massacre today with would be a real negative should that occur because it could end up meaning U.S. intervention. The other possible negative event that needs to be watched is the Saudi "Day of Rage" that some are trying to initiate for March 11th. If this happens or develops the appearance that it will happen, then the markets are likely to react very badly.
3. Institutional Investors were in low Distribution yesterday. Institutional Selling had another Up tick which is becoming a Danger condition that needs Institutional selling to stop rising or the market will go lower.
4. Alert ... please read: ...The SPY is now in a Caution Condition and will move to a Danger condition if its 30 Day RSI goes below 55, or the C-RSI goes below 5 at the close today.]
5. So, bottom line, risk levels are much higher and in a Dangerous condition. We need the market to hold today, the VIX to close below 20, and for the NYSE DVOL to not spike up or we could move from Danger to a Sell condition.
6. ...If we lose the last indicator that is holding out today, the Fractal model will initiate a sell. ........

I sold them at the end of today for $3.50. I just don't know what this middle east crap is going to do to our markets. If I tried to hang in and get back over the $4.00 price and it tanked I would be so mad at myself for not taking profit. Plus time decay should start kicking in this week. Wooish, I have been with Scottrade for a few years now. They charge $7.00 plus $1.25 per contract.
I heard thinkorswim has good rates. I know their platform is incredible. I use their papermoney account to look at charts.
This was from their website, The lesser of:
$2.95 per contract
OR
$1.50 per contract plus $9.95 (only one $9.95 charge for unlimited spread legs)
They say this works best for traders who generally execute single orders of 1-5 contracts.
