Ok, I admit, I'm confused ;)

Do you want ALU long, or LIZ long?

I put you down for LIZ for the moment....

sorry ODY

Rough week for the majority, even for those who made some green ;)

But Karel took the cake with nice gain of +8% on EXM..... again. Well done sir ! Once I get my money out of FRE I know what I'll be doing :)

I took a chance on HPT going opposite what my trading strategy said... turned out to be good luck, at least for 2nd place. I tried it on my other 2 picks for Spike and Rob's contests... took 1st and 3rd there respectively.... might be on to something here...
Hospitality Properties Trust (HPT) is a real estate investment trust (REIT). As of December 31, 2008, HPT, directly and through subsidiaries, owned 289 hotels and 185 travel centers.

Websman follows up with a good enough gain to snatch 3rd place, taking DG in the contest, congrats ! Though we're going to have to work out a handicap if you play again next year... I think this Inner Circle gives you too much advantage ;)
Dollar General Corporation is a discount retailer in the United States. As of February 27, 2009, the Company had 8,414 stores located in 35 states, in the southern, southwestern, midwestern and eastern United States.

This week may have been the pullback before the next spring... though the economic news I'm able to catch has not been very positive lately, I have seen bad news affect the dollar oppositely so many times in the Forex world that I would not be surprised to see 11,000 hit on the Dow in the next couple weeks.... just my 2 cents :)

Good luck all !

Wooish comes in 1st with a great take on NLST.... short ;) And his 1st placing for the contest, congrats ! Definitely the pick of the week
Netlist, Inc., designs, manufactures and sells memory subsystems primarily for the server, high-performance computing and communications markets

JohnHenry did not fall short going long on TRIT, not only gaining a cool +8%, but also his 11th placing and 6th 2nd place win, congrats !
Tri-Tech Holding Inc. (Tri-Tech) is a holding company that wholly owns Tri-Tech International Investment Inc. (TTII). The Company develops and implements systems to assist Chinese government entities monitor and manage natural and municipal water supplies.

I'm just glad I was green this week, but also took 3rd place... barely ;) Could have made more if the open on Monday had not been so low... bad timing ;)
Contango Oil & Gas Company (Contango) is a natural gas and oil company. The Company’s business is to explore, develop, produce and acquire natural gas and oil properties primarily offshore in the Gulf of Mexico.

Bad week for the group of us, but that's the great thing about being able to short or go long... good luck all for some greener pastures next week !

JohnHenry conspired with Mr. Market (is HUGE) for a tremendous win this week ! Congrats ! Not only that, he dared to short the same stock just for a little extra on Friday, well played ;)
China Automotive Systems, Inc. (China Automotive) is a holding company and has no significant business operations or assets other than its interest in Great Genesis Holdings Limited (Genesis).

Steelman took 2nd with a double digit win ! And back in the positive to boot, well done !
Telvent GIT, S.A. is an information technology (IT) company that specializes in value-added real time products, services and integrated solutions to customers in targeted industrial sectors (Energy, Transportation, Environment and Agriculture), as well as Global Services, primarily in Europe, North America, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, the Middle-East and Africa. Products and services solutions include systems integration, consulting services, design and engineering services, real-time business-to-business information services and software.

Wooish grabbed 3rd place this week with LIZ, leading the rest of the Greeny pack. Congrats ! Interesting to note, this is Wooish's 4th win of 8 picks, and all his green picks have placed in the top 3. Keep it up Wooish !
Liz Claiborne, Inc. (LizClaiborne), incorporated in January 1976, designs and markets a global portfolio of retail-based brands, including JUICY COUTURE, KATE SPADE, LUCKY BRAND JEANS and MEXX.

Getting close... good luck all !

Whew, that week was rough ;) But Peter and Rob made it through unscathed with a little green flowing from their pockets. Great job guys !

Peter made +2% off APKT, and won the weekly contest for this 9th time ! Only Karel has him beat with 11, but there are 3 weeks to go, good luck !
Acme Packet, Inc. is engaged in providing session border controllers (SBCs) that enable service providers, enterprises, and contact centers to deliver interactive communications voice, video and other real-time multimedia sessions, across Internet Protocol network borders.

Rob takes +1% off of GOOG (one of personal favorite companies) and grabs his 11th 2nd placing ! He will hold the title for most 2nd placings for the year as the next closest person is Peanuts with 7. Congrats Rob !
Google Inc. maintains an index of Websites and other online content, and makes this information freely available through its search engine to anyone with an Internet connection.

Few more weeks to go, let me know if there is any special graph you would like to see, otherwise I'm in the process of getting it all together, along with looking into a form option that would make it easier and quicker for me and all of you to put in your picks weekly....

Good luck next week !

John Henry was the clear winner this week ! Congrats ! WIT grabbed him almost +14% and the win of this here POTW, as well as Rob's (http://robby01.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=stocks&action=display&thread=17&page=59#1822) !
Wipro Limited (Wipro) is engaged in the areas of information technology (IT), services, IT products and consumer care and lighting products.

The real battle happened for 2nd place, Rob took second with a tremondous +0.12% over Peanuts with GOOG ;) Congrats sir ! Another 2nd placing ! Tech stocks seemed to be the winners this week
Google Inc. maintains an index of Websites and other online content, and makes this information freely available through its search engine to anyone with an Internet connection.

Peanuts took AGP for a positive gain of +0.05%, but any gain is a win in my book ;) AGP had a great run up this week, but the final 2 days gave it all back. It's all the dollar's fault, congrats for 3rd place !
ProShares Ultra Silver (the Fund) seeks to provide daily investment results that correspond to twice (200%) the daily performance as measured by the United States dollar fixing price for delivery in London.

Last week !

But this past one was a pretty good one....

Peanuts grabs a nice +8% with XTXI for the Pick of the Week for his 5th 1st placing ! Well done ! The stock really took off on Wednesday
Crosstex Energy, Inc. is engaged, through its subsidiaries, in the gathering, transmission, treating, processing and marketing of natural gas and natural gas liquids (NGL).

I grabbed 2nd place with CPSI long for a +5% gain, also my 5th placing in 2nd. I'm just barely keeping myself above last place this year ;) Was thinking the Tech sector was the place to be last week....
Computer Programs and Systems, Inc. (CPSI) is a healthcare information technology company that designs, develops, markets, installs and supports computerized information technology systems to meet the demands of small and midsize hospitals.

Karel once again places in the top 3 with EXM long, for a "not to shabby" +4%. Karel is looking to be keeping his 2nd place for the year, unless of course EXM doubles this week. It wouldn't surprise me though ;)
Excel Maritime Carriers Ltd. (Excel) is a provider of worldwide sea borne transportation services for dry bulk cargo, including among others, iron ore, coal and grain, collectively referred to as major bulks, and steel products, fertilizers, cement, bauxite, sugar and scrap metal, collectively referred to as minor bulks.

Good luck all, it looks like IIC may be winning this year ! But the 2nd and 3rd positions are still reachable by some with a great pick !

http://img685.imageshack.us/img685/3539/potw5209.jpg

I will have instructions for the new POTW as soon as possible, but no later than next weekend. It will be similar to the current POTW with a few minor changes.

What a horrible year I've had with my picks on this particular contest ... and this in a year when the markets were all up pretty well. I did much better on the other POTW contest even though I had some major down weeks over there too. What's interesting is that I was trying a particular method for picks this year, and I used the same method on both boards. One did well, and one did not. I'm not quite sure how to interpret the results. Maybe I should buy a set of darts.

Anyway, for the final 4-day week of 2009 I'm tempted to stick with GOOG now that it closed above 600, but I'm going to go with WATG long. The conglomerates sector has been doing well lately, and Wonder Auto Technology has been increasing its top line rather nicely. It looks to be coming off the bottom of an upward channel right about now as well.

First, what a horrible week. Peter was the only 1 of us who didn’t lose anything. So he wins ! However, I’ve only been giving out awards to those who make some green, so sorry Peter, no 1st place reward this week :(

http://img46.imageshack.us/img46/6638/potw5309.jpg

Congrats to IIC for winning this years Portfolio of the Week ! He only made 3 trades, but ended up with +131.19% of his investment ! Incredible !

Karel followed up with +25.69% using the same stock each week ! Very interesting strategy for the year, and it panned out very nicely. Congrats on 2nd place sir!

RL came in 3rd +16.73% with only 9 picks, but mostly good ones ! He only had 2 picks that were losers, and one break even. The rest were solid green, well done !

But hold on, this is a Portfolio of the Week contest, and though your ROI is very important, so are constant good pickers.

I’d also like to congratulate Karel for winning the most PotW for the year, all of them EXM ! He won 11 weeks this year, as well he was in the top 3 more often than anyone else, a total of 20 times ! Amazing…. Especially considering had anyone held EXM from Jan 1st of 2009 to Dec 31st of 2009, you would be down 12.5% right now…. Congrats again !

We can’t forget our other runner up, who did have a rough year but sure could pick’em ! Rob came in 2nd place 12 weeks this year. Well done !

It was a close call at then end for our 3rd placer Peanuts, as he took the most at 6 weeks. There were a few 5’s that could have tied him for it. Congrats !

Though we know Karel placed in the top 3 the most out of anyone, there are 3 others who tied for 2nd and 3rd, and 4th. Peter Hansen, Peanuts, and Rob all were in the top 3 positions 18 weeks out of the year ! That’s some good stock picking ! Follow these guys, they know a thing or two ;)

Now for the math. Though it makes it difficult for this to really pan out if you don’t have a lot of picks, I will change that for next year. But for this year, IIC is our Math Expectancy Wizard ! His Math Exp came to be incalculable ! This is because he never had a loss. Well done ! From Captain Spike, anything over 0.42 makes you “an amazing skipper” ;)

Which leads to the 2nd highest Math going to Lyehopper ! With a 0.96 ! Very nice sir ! Your good picks clearly outweigh your bad ones, a very good skill to have ;)

Our Kelly Value winner again is IIC, with an also incalculable number, congrats ! This means that out of all of us, IIC can invest the most money for each of his picks to make a gain. RL did very well too with 0.42, coming in 2nd place. A lower number would mean you shouldn’t risk as much money with your picks as RL. And it showed with his only 2 losses of 9 picks. Well done sir !

And now the last things to note, IIC not only had won this year, he had the best Pick of the Week back in March. He took BAC long for a whopping +78.8% ! This is where he rocketed to first very quickly, only to be surpassed by Karel at one point during the year.

And of course, we have to point out the worst pick of the year. We’ve all had them. However, our worst pick does not come from someone who lost this year, it came from Karel with EXM, our 2nd place winner. The week of February 16 this year was none to kind as EXM took 34.28% away from Karel, though repaid it in full by the end.

And now a bit of irony I’d like to point out. I’m not sure how many of you know or play, but Spike, Rob, and I all run PotW contests of different variations, and all 3 of us came in last this year in Mr. Market’s Portfolio of the Week. Spike I can only guess gave up after suffering some major losses after a very good run up. I dug myself out of the hole only to fall back in, never was very good at manual labor ;) And poor Rob has had no luck at all, but had some great picks this year.

Thank you everyone for participating, even if but briefly. It’s a great way to see what others are thinking, share your own thoughts, be competitive and show off your mad Stock Picking skills ;) Besides boasting rights of course ;)

So boast away winners, you’ve done good ! And congratulate those who beat you, for you may be the winner next year ;)

Happy New Year !

~Ody
