Doug, when you post your killer watches, are they all meant for "longs"? (not long holds, I mean verses shorting them). I see a couple that look ripe for a zag down. (TOMO for instance... but hey, don't go by me.. look what happened to poor peanuts.)

Today's Blind Horse Setup: WFT 44.90
Man, great minds think alike! I had WFT, along with LSS and NTG on my watch list this week. WFT was up at one point today close to 3.5%.
Alas, I did not act on any, opting for a different sector.

Well...Blind Horse Setups are really short term...went from 44.90 to 45.13 back down...up to 45.20...back down...then closes up 1 cent from when I called it...Darn...I'm sure I will get a harsh tongue lashing from Steckler...But not really for that though....But for:
YIKES!!! The first time my IIC's Killer Watch List A/D was ever negative...only 5up 7dn today...OK Dave...Go ahead...Get it over with...I can take it...LOL...Doug

What might not be so hot today cuz it's gonna zag, may be ripe tomorrow for a ZIG! (technically speaking, of course.)http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Oh Geeze, what a goofball! I just pulled up the tinyurl that you have posted underneath all those killers, and I saw all these wonderful little charts. Charts, that I'm sure you've mentioned before but were lost on me and my gnat's attention span. This was of course, AFTER I deligently pulled up charts on every single one of them myself. Now the contribution worth of these killers is through the roof! Thanks Doug. YBSGUhttp://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Very nice! Your efforts are appreciated. I'm going to spend a bit of time looking at each of these. I would love if someone could give their insight on any of these indices. Does anything particularily stand out to you?
BTW, ringo.... let me support your question: What exactly is a blind horse setup? I tried googling the phrase to no avail. I did learn a few things about guide horses! Tiny little fellas....
Blind Horse Setup: A setup that is so obvious that even a blind horse could see it.
I made the term up.
Hard to explain exactly since the setups are not identical. But normally, I run realtime scans based on several different technical criteria...but I am mainly looking for price/volume action. I prefer those that are approaching new highs but it is not absolutely necessary. I also prefer pullbacks on lower volume as well as those that try to test 5 min resistance more than once. But, 5 min resistance can be pretty subjective. Sorry I can't be more descriptive.
As far as the Killer Watch Lists...they are just that...They are not recommendations. I scan for them in different ways...some scans include some fundamentals and some don't. Some include Relative Strength(RS). Once I've run my scans I look at each chart with a few technicals...Unlike my MoMo(Momentum) lists which are purely mechanical(Top 5% of my RS database of 5500 stocks that close up at least 2% on at least 1.5x ADV)...I make a subjective decision whether or not to include a stock on the Killer Watch List.
You may notice that all do not have the same chart "look"...Some had pulled back and are starting to reverse up on volume(my faves if they are a good stock anyway)...some could be lo vol short flat bases, some could be recent breakouts that I think still have more steam....I also use recent group strength in some cases.
Thanks for asking...Best, Doug(IIC)
Also, I have a lot of my own indices(or groups)...over 100... set up so I can scan for movement and see who is leading. Some I have converted to real time...some I have not. It helps to see what the news is too...For example, before the Oil Supply report I was watching my Oil Index...when the news came out there was a lot of movement...So I basically knew what the news was as it was announced...I believe it came across the Dow Jones Newswire 3 minutes later.
Also did that with the Gas Supply report although I just use the AMEX Natural Gas Index for that.
If I could find a service that would give me realtime groups by "unweighted" price movement I wouldn't have had to go to all the trouble of doing this myself...along with the help of my computer programmer...Of course, he is not free...But well worth the dollars spent...IIC

That's one of the recs that got my boy Frankie in trouble. If I recall, the IB priced the IPO at 18, then it was rescored to 25-27 and opend at 30+ and closed well north of 200. (Thanks to Franks heavy buy and outperform recomendations)
Man, to have been on that rocket ride!
I digress, Linux has been a perpetual favorite of mine over the years, in the good and bad times, you always seem to be able to make a buck with them.
Good call.

BTW- Between the spring of '01 and the fall of '03, I probably traded Linux 40 times, coming out ahead almost each time. (To be fair, I shorted it a few times, too)
Well...it was a rocky road...ended up making 2%...coulda been better...coulda been worse...Doug(IIC)

Salton brings back memories; I remember I loved that stock at 36, really loved it at 52, where I sold, about a month before it hit 58, back in early “00. Today, it moved up 20%, and it could do it again. This is truly a diamond in the rough.
I am actually going to pick some up in the AM EH, for old times sake. Who says you can't go back?

Alas, I am sure there are many out there still sitting on their $50 shares. This play lost 80% of it's value from late oo to early 01, then, for the next couple of years, teased them with pseudo comebacks. It was a real bear trap of a stock.
Salton was one of those non tech stocks that ran on "irrational exhuberance", and one of the first to fall hard.
It ran up, back then, mainly on projected sales of The George Forman Grill.
It has a decent pedigree of appliance names (lower end) in the stable:
Westinghouse, Faberware and Toastmaster (I know there's more, but these are the ones I remember, without pulling a report).
Anyway, thanks to you for awakening my memory a bit, I went in this AM, on EH, for old times sake, at 3.26.

Thanks Doug! After looking over your results, I feel better about a screen that I created over the weekend. My screen gave me the following picks (some the same as yours for today, but my screen was run on Saturday): TGB, NXG, CRED, GFIG, TRX, CBG, CWTR, ERS, FCX, HANS, JFX, NSSC, NTES, OCPS, TWP, VMC.
If you want, I can give you the screening criteria. I used Ameritrade to screen. I think that running a screen every week is a good thing.
Would you do me a favor? Could you please do further analysis on BDCO? I have never owned this, but I remember doing some research (limited) on it a long time ago. I would appreciate your opinion on this company. I remember the price when it was 2.5ish... ouch! Later and Thanks again

I liked BTUI, it was a nice call. I went in Tuesday, looking for 22-23 by late June, and got half of it yesterday! Thanks!

I wanted it at 19 today...but I was having so much trouble getting out of MGPI in my wife's IRA (I posted that elsewhere) from Scottrade(Internet and phones down...That's BS and i am continuing my dialogue with them about it) that I missed it...I also like NVDA here if it continues on vol...Best, Doug

Here's an interesting little tidbit...If you were to buy an equal dollar amout of each of the IIC 100 Top 10 at the open of the first trading day of the week and sell them all at the closing price on the last trading day of the week every week so far this year you'd be up 16.30%.
Unfortunately, if you'd done the same thing with the IBD 100 Top 10 you'd be up more...But I won't tell you how much until the IIC 100 is ahead...Doug(IIC)

I am not familiar with "blind horse" setup... could you please explain briefly? thanks
It is a setup that is so obvious that even a blind horse could see it...Well, SNDK moved up to 65.79 but semi's pulled back and took SNDK with them...530 needs to hold and then we could see a rebound I think
AKAM looks good if 33.50 holds
Semis are not cooperating

Well...It was just my fave of the list for today...Liked the p/v action and the group movement...The technicals I use also indicated upwards movement...But I'm sure I will have a new Fave on Monday...It was a short term outlook...Doug

I have developed similar programs. But I like to use a modified TRIX signal rather than the MACD.... and I look at the weekly over the daily.
MACD crossovers on "the daily" can really fake you out sometimes....
Another magic program I made says WYE's going to $44.70...or nearly 6% below where it sits now before another upward move. comments? and no it dosen't involve a monkey's foot.jeje
btw.... This is fun.... Hey Doug-E-Fresh!.... Put your "crystal ball target" on WYE.
I just picked WYE out of a hat...And of course an MACD crossover doesn't mean much in itself. However, I have been playing around with it this morning because too many show up on my scan...So I'm adding some super-secret criteria to the scan....Doug
Good News...If you had bot equal $$$ amounts of the IIC 100 Top 10 each week of this year on the first trading day of the week and sold them all at the close of the last trading day of the week you'd be +22.0% YTD.
Bad News...If you'd have done the same thing with the IBD 100 Top 10 you'd be up even more.
Other News...I don't have that figure for the IIC/IBD combo lists...Anyone wanna volunteer to calculate it?
...Doug(IIC)

Doug,
I'm asking you and Lye the same question since you both mention group strength more than most. What are the most significant things to look for when using group strength to help find stock candidates ? IBD's method of going with the highest ranking groups always seemed to be dangerous and a type of backward thinking in my opinion. Thanks

Certain groups are in or out of favor...Doesn't always work...which I will explain below(see GRZ)...Sometimes there is some great news and others in the group hop on the train...
But I have a major problem with IBD Groups...First of all they claim they are weighted(But they refuse to tell me their weighting formula)...I've seen them post top groups for the day when the avg. percentage gain is negative...I want unweighted.
2nd of all besides the Top Groups for the day they rank them on 6 mo. performance(At least I believe they do...I used to know IBD inside-out...but no more because I don't have the time/interest)...So if you see a ranking for the week it means it is a 6 month ranking...I don't care about a 6 mo. ranking...I wanna know the REAL UNWEIGHTED WEEKLY RANKING...
3rd of all I don't like some of their Misc. and Diversified groups that have stocks w/ no correlation to each other...
4th of all they include some Canadian Stocks...
5th of all they include some penny stocks...
6th of all...BLAH BLAH BLAH
But I do believe OVERALL stocks move w/ their counterparts
Now...GOLD is HOT...I don't like gold but what the heck...The market doesn't care what I like...So I buy GRZ yesterday(watched it go up for 2 weeks w/o me)...Today Gold is up...My IIC Gold Index A/D/U is 31/17/3 today...but it was much higher this morning...But what happens to GRZ?...It goes dn on news about it will have to pay millions more for this or that...Heck...I shudda held BGO from last week...So Groups are not foolproof...But I held...I think it will recover.
Anyway...I do think that group movement is helpful...But hardly foolproof...And yes...I think the overall IBD and Canslim system(s) are backward looking...People buy stocks for what they are gonna do...Not for what they already did...At least they should IMO...Best, Doug(IIC)

IIC's Killer Watch Lists
To be honest...Nothing thrills me on Friday...Will wait and see...Benny indicates a pause in rate hikes...China raises rates..Gold stocks react(IIC Gold Index A/D was 4/47) but Gold itself remains strong closing well...Spot is at 635.00 as I post...Silver ETF comes out on Friday...Finally...But I figure there will be shenanigans at first so I'll pass either way. GDP tomorrow conc. 4.9%...Too many IF'S...Of course you could buy IF...just kidding.
I will wait to see what develops tomorrow...No rush...At least everyone's FAVE stock was up on eps...WITS...I think Greenspan gives their c/c's now...that's why it took overnight to react(Nobody knows what the h*ll they are talking about)...GAAP this...Non-GAAP that...Blue Pumpkin doesn't count yet...Call Center Magazine Co. of the Year...One time charges don't count...Of course we have one time charges every quarter :) But they are the Best at what they do...At least that's what they say...BTW...What do they do...Reminds me of that song/movie...I love the way you do that thing you do....Now tell me...What the h*ll do you do???...LOL

Let's see how IIC's Crystal Ball did...
The Crystal Ball indicated that 16 stocks were prime candidates to be MACD Crossovers in the near future. Well, we gave it 5 trading days.
Of the 16...13 crossed over this week. FL re-crossed down though on Wednesday.
The 3 that didn't make it were APPB NKE and FIS.

Not bad...But I'll see if I can't take the Ball in for a tuneup tomorrow...Doug(IIC)
Below is a copy of a post I made at Stkytreats thread...I'm re-posting it here for those who missed it and may want to check out the link I put up:
Lye suggests asking for The 24 Lessons book...But that book is based on a 26 week series that IBD ran back in the late '90's called 26 Weeks To Investment Success which I just happen to have in my back pocket... http://trimurl.com/545
Now you can ask for another book....I'd recommend Guide To The Markets...it is a little outdated but it is the best book they ever published...If they won't give you that then ask for The Successful Investor and as a last resort you can ask for How To Make Money In Stocks.
Too bad you missed the blowout special IBD had about a month ago...I renewed for only $174 yr for the print edition regular $295. I think I forgot to mention it on this forum...Sorry...Doug(IIC)

MACD Crossovers BEFORE they Crossover
There are 40 this week...Last week there were only 16...13 of them crossed over last week...But I took my crystal ball in for a tuneup this morning and lo and behold there was a hairline scratch...Had it buffed out...We'll see how it works out next week...BUT REMEMBER...I'm just trying to predict crossovers...Doesn't necessaily mean all the stocks are any good...Best To All...Doug(IIC)

Nice looking cup w/handles. You could also make a case for volume drying up. How many do you figure will break out successfully?

Doug,
Our high school agriculture teacher told us that cane sugar and beet sugar are identical chemically. Since our area is one of the top production centers for sugar beets we have to support beet sugar products. I believe each bag indicates whether it is from beets or cane. There's a large sugar processing plant about 17 miles from my house and when the harvest is in full swing in the fall, the roads leading to the plant are strewn with sugar beets that have fallen from overloaded trucks. If you'd taste one you wouldn't believe something sweet as sugar could come from such a thing. They remind me more of a misshapen humongous potato. But if money is to be made in the sugarland stock I see no problem in taking profits and using some of it to purchase our local beet sugar.
Some of the brand names around here are G&W , Domino, Pioneer, and Big Chief.

Doug,
You recently mentioned you got a good deal on an IBD renewal. They didn't make me that offer so they're gone for now. When I used to visit the site there always seemed to be problems accessing charts , news , etc. I thought it was my computer, but now believe it was IBD. Have you had similar experiences? If so , how can a business that prides itself in its research and technical data be so inept at running a web site?

ECMV is owned by the CEO of PARL. His brother is looking to buy it from him. Questions swirl about "related party transactions", which is probably behind the huge short position in PARL.

Found the post...DougThanks for looking, I went back and found it, too, after Lyehopper mentioned on my thread that you had discussed it before. What's enticing is that this almost shows up on my screen for undervalued growth, only missing the threshold for ROE, and on your list. It won't be showing up on IBD100 due to however they calculate the EPS rating, which is currently only 50. Oh yeah, the other criteria from my current screen it misses is that it hasn't exceeded estimates 2 Q's in the last year. Of course, I'm thinking that the fact there were no estimates until recently may contribute to that.

In my IIC 100 lists (FTEK is # 10) this week I do not use past eps. I do fiqure in the latest eps and projections though....I also use RS and some "super secret" criteria...But my database only has 5500 stocks and my RS goes from 1-100...Most of my RS figures are within a couple of IBD's though since the formula is pretty basic...although they probably treat IPO's differently than I do...Doug

Doug, I kick myself for missing ERS @ 27 area.
I don't...Whenever I think of the IBD 100 I think of the CYD disaster...I emailed them a couple of times...I warned 'em...I got bashed at the Yahoo CYD board...But nobody listened till it was too late...IBD did not do their homework on CYD...I took charts over to chart experts to try to figure it out...I went to sites in Singapore looking for info...I sent it all to IBD...They never responded...But the following week it went from # 1 to off the list...I gained nothing by that foot work...except a little self satisfaction...But ERS is not the same type of story...I never could figure ERS out...But to be honest...I never tried...IIC

Hasn't hit here yet. Mine are still standing on their skinny metal legs :D
Speaking of IBD, I just let mine expire. I got the weekly edition, and they wanted about twice face value. I said "what", and they said "you get Web access too". Only things I got out of that site were MM, Poorman, Webs' VTP, and maybe a few others, and I'm members with both of their sites. MM is off that site now, anyway.
I'll still occasionally pick up the weekly in the newsstand, but it's not as valuable as this site and others.

Doug,
I know you don't invest this way , but theoretically if you bought based on your combos each week, you'd be way ahead. Have you ever considered doing something similar?

How do you know that?
As of the week ending 4/28 if you had bot the IIC 100 Top 10 at the open every Monday and sold at the close every Friday(or the first/last trading days of the week) you'd have been +23% YTD on a compounding basis...But I don't have that figure for the Combo List. Shadow volunteered to help me put it together since I do have all the lists...But it seems like it might be more trouble than its worth.
Now, if you'd done the same thing with the IBD 100 Top 10 you'd be_______...I'm not telling yet because it is higher than the IIC Top 10.

Doug,
The IBD top 10 might be doing well so far this year but not so long ago, investing in the IBD top 10 would have landed your a.. on a platter. I'd guess the IBD/ICC combo would prove to be safer in the long run.

That was the original idea...I originally came up with the IIC 100 in 2004 in an attempt to figure out how they came up with their IBD 100...But since they have access to a lot more data than I do I soon realized it was a futile attempt....So I set my criteria and away I went.
I believe my criteria are generally more forward looking...But, who knows???...But at least my list is free to anyone who wants it.
There are some major differences in the lists though...I have no minimum price criteria...That's why I always mention how many on my list are under 15 bux...usually 20 something are. I also only have a database of just over 5500 stocks...They have more...But the one's I'm missing would probably never show up on either list anyway.
Every weekend I look at every chart on both lists. I post mine at the Public Lists at Stockcharts.com which is free to anyone. I can't post their charts though...ONLY for Personal Use thing 'ya know.
Yes...the Combo list would probably be safer...But one bad report and it's all over no matter whose list your on...Best, Doug(IIC)

Doug,
I believe IBD often overthinks things and may weigh their parameters incorrectly. They seem to be inflexible once their formula is set. Then they try to pound their philosophy into you and they don't like to be questioned. I like the way you've tried different combinations of statistics and not just accepted what "the man" says.

My take is that IBD has the data...But they don't want to admit that a million years of research on past winners doesn't necessarily work anymore...The markets have changed...Specifically, much more volatility since the early 90's and before...Due to more use of computers.
Sure...I still like flat bases...I still like Cup w/ Handles...I still like 50 day bouncers...I still like stocks near New Highs...I still like a lot of the Old School Canslim stuff...But you need to adapt....I called for them to change...And they actually have...But nothing I would say is significant.
I believe that their IBD 100 is a mechanical screen...Just like mine...I don't think anyone sits down at IBD and says "OK let's do our DD on these 100 stocks...We go to press in 30 mins."...My IIC 100 is a mechanical screen too...You don't know how many times I wanted to just take IFO off the list.
Now...My Killer Lists are actually subjective...I run several different mechanical screens and then I look at each chart...No, I don't do a thorough DD on all of them every night...But I pick a few to check out further for myself....And I place them all in my streamer.
I might like a stock for a quickie trade...swing trade or a longer term...I'd love to post my thoughts on why each one appears on my lists...But posting is not a paying job and I need to think about my own trades first...As everyone should IMO... I try to post things on a timely basis but I work a job so that's not really practical...Doug
The good news: If you had purchased every stock in the IIC 100 Top 10 at the open of each week and sold at the close each week this year you'd be up 34.45%.
The bad news: If you'd done the same thing with the IBD 100 Top 10 you'd be up even more...But the gap is closing...IIC

I let my IBD subscription go—too expensive—but when I was still getting it my favorite feature was the New America. They irritated me with their constantly badgering me to subscribe to their "premium" services when I was already paying them so much for the subscription to begin with. Then when you read that "Smart Investor" column, half the time the techniques they described involved use of those premium services again.

That's pretty impressive. I wonder if there is a way to narrow down the IBD, or your screen, to get to those big winners  ;-)
Also, with the large price swings in OTCBB, I wonder if there is a good system to find those big gainers. Of course, OTCBB is really risky, and makes me feel dirty when I make money from them... don't know why
Of your 100, I like BUCY and PCP the best. I have intimate knowledge of some of PCP's business

The problem I have w/ IBD is that they try tonickel and dime you to death...Look at all this stuff:
http://www.investors.com/ibdstore/
By the time the average joe buys all this stuff they have no money left to invest.
Now IBD is a business and they can charge whatever they want IMO...But what saddens me a little bit is when I used to read all these posts at their forum...So many small investors who thought that if they bot all this stuff they'd be rich in no time. C'mon!!!
Then there's the seminars....up to $7,000...Now what the heck are they gonna teach me that's worth 7 grand?
Now...and this is just my opinion...they may charge so much to keep some aura of exclusivity about them???...There are many people who think the more you pay the better the info...That is not necessarily true.
Anyway...I spend over $1500 a year w/ them because I find some of their stuff useful. But I don't think very many people would find it useful because they don't really understand what its all about...Of course they could spend thousands on seminars to find out...LOL
IMO they should offer cheap or even free seminars. I know they have one for $179 for 3 hrs...But you are not gonna learn much in 3 hours with hundreds of others. In the 90's I taught a friend Canslim...We spent all day on 6 Saturday's.
I offered to teach Canslim seminars for 250 grand a year...But the phone never rings...Doug(IIC)

I don't think there is any magical screen that will pick out all the winners...It takes a lot of due diligence after you run your screens.
I know a guy who is a full time trader...He is not a day trader...I think he is more of an intermediate guy. Anyway, all he trades are IBD 100 stocks. He has some parameters set up and he narrows it down to maybe 30...I'm not sure. Then he intimately studies those stocks. Now, since there are not really that many changes each week he doesn't necessarily have to get to know 30 new stocks each week...But he follows his list every week and buys the ones that meet whatever his action point criteria is...most probably never do. I don't know this guy that well but he seems to do very well to me....Doug

Doug, I think predictive values of indicators are pretty much a farce. Regardless of your time frame they must be calculated from either open, high, low, close or volume. Price action is all one needs to know about IMO Value may be found in divergence of the indicator and price. This could signal a turning point. Other than that all my magical indicators are a waste of time…
Despite what we think in essence they all are lagging indicators. Imagine that did he say all of them? Yep…..

Well put Runner...I post many lists around the Net and I keep tons more...But in the end...It all boils down to Price/Volume action for me...I don't post all my trades...But how many of the ones I do were actually on my posted lists?...Not many...Not because I think the lists are bad...Afterall, they are just watchlists...But because a 1/2hr after the market opens...It can be completely different than I thought it would be the night prior...In fact, most times it is...Thx...Doug

To get your mind off the markets:
Life In The 1500's
The next time you are washing your hands and complain because the water temperature isn't just how you like it, think about how things used to be.
Here are some facts about the 1500s:
These are interesting...
Most people got married in June because they took their yearly bath in May and still smelled pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell,
so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor. Hence the custom today of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other Sons and men, then
the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying, "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water."
Houses had thatched roofs-thick straw-piled high, with no wood underneath. It was the only place for animals to get warm, so all the cats and other small
animals (mice, bugs) lived in the roof. When it rained it became slippery and sometimes the animals would slip and slide out of the roof. Hence the
saying "It's raining cats and dogs."
There was nothing to stop things from falling into the house. This posed a real problem in the bedroom where bugs and other droppings could mess up
your nice clean bed. Hence, a bed with big posts and a sheet hung over the top afforded some protection. That's how canopy beds came into existence.
The floor was dirt. Only the wealthy had something other than dirt. Hence the saying "dirt poor."
The wealthy had slate floors that would get slippery in the winter when wet, so they spread thresh (straw) on floor to help keep their footing. As the winter wore on, they added more thresh until when you opened the door it would all start slipping outside. A piece of wood was placed in the entranceway.
Hence the saying a "thresh hold."
(Getting quite an education, aren't you?)
In those old days, they cooked in the kitchen with a big kettle that always hung over the fire. Every day they lit the fire and added things to the pot. They ate mostly vegetables and did not get much meat. They would eat the stew for dinner, leaving leftovers in the pot to get cold overnight and then start over the next day. Sometimes stew had food in it that had been there for quite a while. Hence the rhyme, "Peas porridge hot, peas porridge cold, peas porridge inthe pot nine days old."
Sometimes they could obtain pork, which made them feel quite special. When visitors came over, they would hang up their bacon to show off. It was a sign of wealth that a man could "bring home the bacon." They would cut off a little to share with guests and would all sit around and "chew the fat."
Those with money had plates made of pewter. Food with high acid content caused some of the lead to leach onto the food, causing lead poisoning death. This happened most often with tomatoes, so for the next 400 years or so, tomatoes were considered poisonous.
Bread was divided according to status. Workers got the burnt bottom of the loaf, the family got the middle, and guests got the top, or "upper crust."
Lead cups were used to drink ale or whisky. The combination would sometimes knock the imbibers out for a couple of days. Someone walking along the road would take them for dead and prepare them for burial. They were laid out on the kitchen table for a couple of days and the family would gather around and eat and drink and wait and see if they would wake up. Hence the custom of holding a "wake."
England is old and small and the local folks started running out of places to bury people. So they would dig up coffins and would take the bones to a
"bone-house" and re-use the grave. When reopening these coffins, 1 out of 25 coffins were found to have scratch marks on the inside and they realized they had been burying people alive. So they would tie a string on the wrist of the corpse, lead it through the coffin and up through the ground and tie it to a bell. Someone would have to sit out in the graveyard all night (the "graveyard shift") to listen for the bell; thus, someone could be "saved by the bell" or wasconsidered a "dead ringer."
And that's the truth... Now, whoever said that History was boring!!

Welcome to the "less than perfect thread club" dude. personally I think that ONLY Sr. Members should be allowed to rate a thread. And I think that after a thread reaches 100k hits it should automatically be rated "Five Stars" and should remain that way FOREVER!.... A lot of effort goes into these threads.... What about it KAREL?
Well...thx for the kind words Lye...Maybe somebody is ticked off that I've put the IIC's Killer Watch Lists on hold...It is not to keep them to myself...It is because I'm extremely busy at work now and I'm a bit burned out when I come home...Has nothing to do with the crummy shape the market is in...Or maybe some Canslim purist joined and doesn't like the fact that I question the system...Or maybe someone is jealous of me because all the great lookin' investor chicks love me...or maybe...somebody bot ABAX yesterday because I did and they lost their shirt(Ya gotta believe...I'm still holding)...or maybe, maybe maybe???
But to tell you the truth...I'd like to know why that person rated me a 1 star??? Fess Up...Reveal Yourself...Tell Me Why...If you think I'm full of it...Just tell me...Maybe I'll learn something...I'm serious...I can take constructive criticism...No problem...I can even take verbal abuse...Although in 8 years on the boards I've never lost a wacko argument...But I do lose plenty of legitimate debates...In fact, I will admit that I learn more from those that disagree with me and explain why than those that say...Way to go...Doug(IIC)

HANS...Not one to pawn the wife's wedding ring over but look at the pennant...it is running long major resistance at 8.45. Couldn't stay over it yesterday. The group stinks but this one has the highest RS in the group (86).
I'll put it on my "B" list
Shades of ERS and CYD!!! After moving into the NUMBER 1 spot on the IIC 100 on September 12, 2005 HANS drops off the list completely. During that time HANS increased in price by 253%. It seemed odd that it didn't qualify when I ran the scan yesterday...But there was one minimum criteria that it missed by a hair.

Oil Tax Is Likely to Appear on Ballot
Organizers turn in 1.2 million signatures in support of an extraction levy on California crude.
By Marc Lifsher, Times Staff Writer
May 13, 2006
Supporters of a ballot initiative that would slap a $400-million-a-year extraction tax on California oil producers submitted almost 1.2 million signatures to state election officials Friday, virtually assuring that the measure would go before voters in November.
Winning a place on the ballot for the proposed tax — which is designed to raise money for research and development of alternative fuels — could set the stage for one of the more costly initiative campaigns in state history. The initiative needs 598,105 valid signatures to qualify for the ballot.
http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N2790.CFLATimes/B1885861.2;abr=!ie4;abr=!ie5;sz=300x250;ord=bwzsgd v,bcgmfdnzjcrl? (http://http://ad.doubleclick.net/ad/N2790.CFLATimes/B1885861.2;abr=!ie4;abr=!ie5;sz=300x250;ord=bwzsgd v,bcgmfdnzjcrl?)
The California Clean Air Campaign, bankrolled by Hollywood producer Steve Bing, Silicon Valley venture capitalists and pro-environment corporate executives, has collected $4.2 million and is likely to spend tens of millions of dollars campaigning for the initiative, spokeswoman Julie Buckner said.
Oil companies and their allies in the California Chamber of Commerce and other business groups are expected to spend at least that much to fight the proposal.
"This is worth a lot of money to us," said Jack Coffey, government affairs manager for San Ramon, Calif.-based Chevron Corp., which last week abandoned its effort to get an initiative on the ballot that would have limited oil company liability in some water pollution lawsuits.
The coalition-backed initiative would impose a tax on every barrel of oil produced within California or pumped from wells on state lands offshore. The tax rate would increase as oil prices rise, topping out at 6%. California produces about 773,000 barrels of oil a day, and backers estimate that the tax would raise at least $4 billion over 10 years if oil prices stay above $60 a barrel.
Proceeds from the tax would be earmarked for research, development and production of alternative vehicle fuels such as ethanol, biodiesel and hydrogen.
Opponents contend that a wellhead tax on California crude would discourage domestic oil production and make the state more dependent on foreign imports. They say the tax probably would be passed on to consumers as higher prices at the pump.
Proponents counter that the initiative's wording specifically prohibits producers from adding the tax to retail prices.
Oil prices, they say, are set on an international market that consumes 85 million barrels a day and shouldn't be affected by a tax collected only in California.
The measure has attracted support from Silicon Valley venture capitalists interested in financing research into commercially viable alternatives to fossil fuels. Three partners at the Menlo Park, Calif., firm of Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers have contributed $2.2 million to put the initiative on the ballot.
The measure is attracting other wealthy backers such as Robert Fisher, chairman of Gap Inc., and Wendy Schmidt, wife of Google Inc. Chief Executive Eric Schmidt.
The opposition campaign committee, Californians Against Higher Taxes, fears that the venture capitalists and other business executives could gain control of the new state agency that would distribute the money raised by the new tax.
"There are no checks and balances about where the money goes," spokesman Al Lundeen said.
The drive to boost alternative-fuel research by taxing oil companies is likely to be popular with California motorists upset over paying the highest gas prices of any state except Hawaii. The statewide average is $3.374 a gallon, according to the latest AAA survey.
"Based on the polling that we've been doing, people seem to be willing to pay, to make sacrifices if they know it means a cleaner environment," said Mark Baldassare, director of research at the Public Policy Institute of California in San Francisco.
"At this point in time, having the oil companies pay is not going to be something that concerns people."

Actually...I have all kinds of sites in various states of disarray...LOL...The one I make the most on is a dating site...However, The idea I am working on is to have about 100 sites that take little or no maintenance that each pull in about 200 bux a month. Some of my sites are tied together as they lead from one to another...those are Biz Opp type sites...I also have things set up so I can produce ezines and send them out with a click to as many as sign up....I also have online gaming, credit/loans and have a site geared towards college students ready to go in late August...Doug

Well, yes, but only if that company actually makes and sells something that somebody wants to buy. Otherwise, the company *does* pay the tax, or permit, or fee, or whatever.

Otherwise, the company *does* pay the tax, or permit, or fee, or whatever. But if nobody buys their products or services, they will be out of business in a very short span of time, in which case the money that went to pay for those fees, taxes, etc., ultimately came from an individual's pocket anyway.

California home for sale for $75 million
Tue May 16, 2006 8:19pm EThttp://i.today.reuters.com/images/spacer.gif
CORONA DEL MAR, California (Reuters) - A Southern California oceanfront home would break a record if sold for its $75 million listing price, an analyst with the National Association of Realtors said on Tuesday.
The 30,000-square-foot custom-built estate belongs to IIC, member of the Mr. Market Is Huge Forum. The estate features a car museum, entertainment complex, gymnasium and mini water park.
"It's a trophy home," said Carrie Williams, media director for the McMonigle Group, which listed the estate for sale. "It's secure and private -- for a celebrity, sports star or someone of that ilk."
The record U.S. home sale price was posted two years ago when Ron Perelman sold his Palm Beach, Florida, home for $70 million, according to the National Association of Realtors.

. . . I was . . . b. 1953 . . .So was my brother, in July. I'm a '57 model.
Doug, Hope you understand what I'm asking,my money Is In an IRA If I buy and sell In 1=2 or 3 days my money Is held as unsettled cash. Am I In danger of losing my money? I have traded like this In the past and at the end of 3 business days received my money. In markets like this It's better to have my money held then lost. Have a good day this should be your kind of market.

Not sure I understand...In a cash account if you sell a stock it takes 3 days for the sale to settle...You can immediately use those unsettled funds to purchase another stock after you sell the first one but you are not permitted to sell the second stock you bot w/ unsettled funds until the first sale settles. Regulation T.
However, I have done it and I got a stern warning not to do it again or my account would be restricted for 90 days...Not sure if every broker gives you a second chance though...Best to wait the 3 days before you use the money again.
My kind of market???...No
Why no, thought you day traded? Thanks for you answer thats what I wanted to know.Would rather have the money tied up for three days , sell and buy another or buy the same one back when It goes down. Better than buying and holding for three to four days and It goes down below my buy point.or am I just drinking to much beer?

You love you some WITS dontcha! hehe Good luck brother.
There are a lot of things about WITS that don't make any sense at first glance...I could write all night about it...But here is one thing that many may find interesting...Generally, insider sales are not bullish...But go to this site and type in WITS...No buys(only sells) for years but it still advances...Any idea why that is?
http://insidercow.com/
Now I saw the insider buys on TIE yesterday...I warned my friends not to short it...But nobody listened...But anyway...Sometimes the right way is the wrong way...And sometimes the right way is the right way...But there are numerous other reasons I think WITS will be 30+...In fact, it is really the only stock that I REALLY know well...But I do realize that I can't know everything...Doug

HANS, after a one week absence, claims the # 1 spot again...That may seem strange but my scan is completely mechanical. As I mentioned last week, HANS missed one of the minimum criteria by a hair...It was pretty much tops in all the other catagories...Well, there was an estimate change this past week which got HANS past the minimum for the criteria it missed last week.

Doug,
Those public lists are very interesting. Any of those other lists you look closely at? Do you ever check the IIC/IBD combo performance vs. various indices on a weekly basis? Even on the bad weeks such as 2-18, 3-17 it would provide a ray of hope if the results beat the pack. Thanks
billyjoe

We have not tracked the performance of the Combo List yet...But if you bot the IIC 100 Top 10 at the open every week and sold at the close every week you'd be up over 28% YTD...I also have the same thing on the IBD 100 Top 10...I'll post it when the IIC 100 Top 10 is higher...However, the gap is now very close as the IBD Top 10 fell apart the last 2 weeks...
Actually I do have a stat for the Combo List...But to me it is meaningless.
There is a guy who tracks it...But since there were about 30 stocks at the beginning of the year he started the portfolio with $2,000 in each. Unfortunately, when the combo list is less than 30 stocks he puts the remainder in cash...Well, since the average number of stocks is about 15-20 each week and has been as low as 7...There is a lot of cash on the table each week. I don't know what he did the week it was 31.
Anyway, his calc at the end of this week is +4.48%.
I remember when the State of California made the "Official State Language" English...Geez...That sure did a lot of good...What's the penalty for violating that Law?...Oh...I just remembered...There is no penalty...Now...The US Gov't wants to make English the "Official" US language...Hmm...What will be the penalty for breaking that law???...Probably...You break it... You win the Lotto...As far as I'm concerned the "Official Language of the USA" should be Mandarin...I have busted my but for 3 years to try and learn it...If I can do it then there should be some kind of prize...It is REALLY hard!!!

For anyone wondering where my "Killer Watch Lists" are???...I didn't give up on 'em...But they are Momentum Based...And there ain't much MoMo the last few weeks...I still watch them...But VERY Risky...So no point now...When the market recovers...They will be back...IIC
FWIW...No comment either way...But I got this via email last Friday:
Garbage to Gainshttp://www.moneyshowdigest.com/digest/images/shim.gif"Every year, US consumers generate 240 million tons of non-hazardous waste products, and some 70% is destined for disposal in the nation’s landfills," notes Elliott Gue in Personal Finance. Here, he looks at five favorites that turn "garbage" into "gains."
"Americans are generating more trash than ever. That steadily growing pile of waste may be a headache for towns and cities, but it’s music to the ears of a handful of companies that handle waste processing, transportation, and storage. The waste management industry generates steady fees for hauling trash from individual homes and municipal dumpsters to landfill sites for long-term disposal. Better still, even when the economy slows, consumers continue to produce trash; cash flows for the industry tend to be reliable and recession-resistant.
"The key to profitability in the industry is landfill capacity. Federal, state, and local governments tightly regulate landfill disposal permitting—it’s a time-consuming and expensive process that routinely encounters opposition from local residents. That severely limits growth in available landfill capacity. Landfill owners typically charge a tipping fee for depositing waste on their sites and an additional fee for processing.
"With landfill capacity in short supply, tipping fees have been on the rise and haulers with insufficient capacity have seen profit margins squeezed. Conversely, companies with plenty of excess capacity have enjoyed rising fees for handling third-party disposal. The nation’s largest trash hauler, Waste Management (WMI (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=WMI) NYSE), owns nearly 40% of total US landfill capacity—283 sites located all across the country.
"Those landfills on average have 26 years of capacity remaining. And better still, the company is in the process of expanding 65 of its existing landfills, a move that will push up average capacity to 35 years. As a result, WMI is able to dispose of roughly two-thirds of the trash it collects internally, among the highest ratios in the industry. It also wins points for increasing prices and holding down costs.
"To offset rising diesel fuel costs for running trash trucks, Waste Management imposed hefty fuel surcharges on customers. The result: profit margins have been rising steadily over the past few quarters and currently stand at a healthy 14%. Generating nearly $2.5 billion in free cash flow annually, the company has plenty of financial flexibility to offer a 2.5% dividend yield and an aggressive share repurchase program. Buy under 40.
"Like Waste Management, Waste Connections (WCN (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=WCN) NYSE) benefits from a solid network of landfills nationwide—68% of its throughput is stored in company-owned landfills. Even better, Waste Connections has been highly acquisitive in recent years, buying up smaller collection firms operating in small towns and rural markets. Larger firms typically ignore these smaller markets, giving Waste Connections a near-monopoly position in many cases.
"In recent years, the waste management industry has become increasingly concentrated in the hands of a few key national players. Smaller private firms just can’t put together the networks of landfill and trucking capacity to remain profitable. This fits in well with Waste Connections’ acquisition strategy—it’s been able to profitably grow its business by acquiring small, inefficient firms and integrating them into its existing nationwide infrastructure. WCN is a buy under 45.
"Republic Services (RSG (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=RSG) NYSE) has traditionally lagged our other two picks in landfill capacity. But in recent years, it’s steadily increased capacity by siting new landfills and winning permits to expand existing sites. As a result, more than 56% of collected waste is handled internally and margins have been steadily improving. And the company has been enjoying a strong pricing market, due in large part to its strong exposure to fast-growing states such as Florida and Nevada. RSG rates a buy under 47.50.
"Every year the US generates some 30 million tons of hazardous waste that requires special treatment. Examples of hazardous waste include low-level radioactive materials from nuclear power plants and petroleum wastes generated at oil refiners and chemical plants. American Ecology Corp. (ECOL (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=ECOL) NASDAQ) specializes in the treatment and disposal of such hazardous wastes. The company owns a total of four operating hazardous disposal sites around the US.
"Roughly half of revenues come from one-off clean-up projects such as a project to clean up hazardous chemicals from the bottom of the Hudson River. Yet Ecology’s management has also been working to boost revenues from recurring projects—mainly long-term contracts with refiners and steelmakers to haul hazardous wastes. While profit margins may not be as high on such ongoing contracts, they offer steady, solid revenues. Buy American Ecology under 29.
"Another major player in the hazardous waste market is Clean Harbors (CLHB (http://moneycentral.msn.com/scripts/webquote.dll?ipage=qd&Symbol=CLHB) NASDAQ). It has a particular specialty in cleaning up oil and chemical spills; with US oil refiners and chemical plants operating at near full capacity, spills are more common. In addition, Clean Harbors is a major contractor for hurricane-related clean-up work along the Gulf Coast. Buy Clean Harbors under 30."

Doug,
Have I got a trivia question for you. You've got 24 hours to figure it out. Probably will take you a couple minutes.
We all know Mr. Market as being huge with a 87.37% success rate of gains in 83 of 95 picks , however there may be someone even huger. This individual has called it quits after a success rate of 94.38% (84 of 89). His career has a connection to your early life. Another eerie coincidence is a clue in the first paragraph of your "Garbage to Gains" story. It takes a lot of time to go through all these posts with a fine toothed comb. Should you come up with the answer your reward is my undying admiration.

I used to know someone that lived in China for a few years teaching and what not.
He was fairly fluent in Mandarin, I think, but mentioned that he was a always on guard about a slight variation in the pronunciation of “little girl” and “prostitute,” or something similar.
I think LYO might be an interesting pick, from a different topic.

Doug,
I am soooo disappointed. Maybe you thought it had something to do with stock picking , but it didn't. All you had to do was keep up with your reading of the Morocco Times to know that Hicham El Guerrouj, world record holder in the 1500 , mile , and 2000m had retired with 84 victories in 89 races. Also was a double gold medalist in the olympics. You remember the anorexic looking dude that could run forever ? The eerie clue was the name of the gentleman in "Garbage to Gains" , Elliot Gue , coincidence ? Maybe not. You still have my undying admiration.

IIC's Sayings To Live By:
Expect the best...but be prepared for the worst
Never dwell on what might have been
The smartest people ask the most questions
The smartest people only need to know one thing...who to call to get the answers
When you are wrong, you are wrong...admit it and get on with it
Let the other person save face ...unless they are a real jerk
Never feel sorry for yourself
Worry takes more effort than action
Never be intimidated
Never be afraid of change
Make your boss look good
Be more prepared than the person sitting across the table
The way to come up with good ideas is to come up with a lot of ideas
Remember your customer's kids names
Value diversity
Try to make the other person feel important
Don't worry if you miss your exit on the freeway...there's another one just around the bend
Never bring up a problem unless you have a solution
No matter how bad it seems...just remember somebody has it worse
Don't dish it out if you can't take it
Never forget anything
It is hard to believe that a person is telling the truth when you know you would lie if you were in their place
When a person tells you that they will think it over and let you know...you know
He who burns his bridges better be a good swimmer
Get bored easily
There is always a place for the person who says "I'll take care of it"
If you can afford to buy your way out of a problem...you don't have a problem
It isn't the people you fire that make your life miserable...it's the people you don't
A good person never expects anything in return except a "Thank You"
When a telemarketer calls you...tell them that you are busy right now and ask them for their number so you can call them back
Say it with authority and people will believe you
If you find yourself in a bad situation...take immediate action
Have a good sense of humor
Hoping and wishing are excuses for not doing
99% responsibility doesn’t work
We fear the thing we want the most
The rewards in life go to those who are willing to give up the past
People would rather be right than happy
100 years from now no one will care
The one who loves the least controls the relationship
If you require someone to change…you require them to lie to you
You can get everything you want in life if you help enough other people get what they want
What you are afraid to do is what you need to do next
The best way to escape from your problem is to solve it
You can have anything you want if you give up your belief that you cannot have it
A winner says…”I Will” and a loser says I’ll Try”
Be yourself
Edit...Fixed a typo
Those sayings: Excellent stuff!

Thanks Doug, I love stuff like this. Did you ever read, "How to Win Friends and Influence People" Dale Carnegie
It's as great book which, if you like stuff like this, you'll like his book.

what did you get from the course that you could not get from the book?
what did you get from the course that you could not get from the book?
I believe we had to get up and speak 28 times in front of the group...I've never been one to be afraid to speak to groups but it was very good practice...There were also some personal interaction exercises which were helpful...e.g. interviewing.
Basically, it was the book put into practice.

SIRI has been in a nice slide and is currently testing the upper channel. A pop above may signal change in character or a drop under today’s low may offer a short.
Nice going with the gun stock Doug!!

What's the advantage of having a trading partner ? Are there tax implications?

Doug, I’ve got it on my screen and I want this break to work and gain more momo. I may be looking to get in on a pullback. I’ll let it prove itself first. Hope it accelerates upward for ya….

The advantage is to have a trading partner who is smarter than you are...We don't put our money together...We share ideas...And we are basically looking for the same stuff in different places...Doug

For any Newbies...The Daily MoMo list consists of stocks in the Top 5% of my Relative Strength Database that closed up at least 2% on at least 1.5x Average daily Volume(50)...My database has just over 5,500 stocks. My RS numbers do not necessarily match others as mine goes from 1-100, I have less in my database and we probably treat IPO's a little differently...But the RS formula is pretty basic so my numbers are very close in most cases.
