I see we have some new members...So to reiterate:
My Daily MoMo lists are from the Top 5% of my Relative Strength (RS) database of 5,500 stocks that closed up at least 2% on at least 1.5x Average Daily Volume. My RS rank may not match others exactly due to the treatment of IPO's and that fact that I use a rank of 1 to 100...But the formula is pretty basic so the RS rank should be close...IIC

Here is my Trader's Expo report:
It wasn't very good...It is the 4th one I've been to since 2004...They just keep getting smaller.
However, we had a great time...I got to be an extra in some Elvis Impersonator Commercial...I went to Hooters to compare the girls to the Miami Hooters...My nod goes to Miami...Got wonderful seats to the CMT Dangerous Man concert w/ Trace Adkins, Billy Currington and Jason Aldean...I won at Craps, was 2/4 at the racebook and won a $400 jackpot about 15mins before we left.
The highlight of the Expo (as usual) was the "Hosted" Cybertrader reception.
I would not recommend making a special trip to go to an Expo...but if one is nearby it is a good way to kill a few hours....Doug
PS...here is a copy of a post I made on the WYNN thread here if you missed it:
OK...I went to The WYNN today...Here's my report:
1) A "Wannabe" Bellagio...Nice flowers and fountains...but no comparison
2) Don't buy a drink...They cost more than my hotel room at The Excaliber
3) Nice marble modesty shields between the urinals...And check this...They have these "No Splash" pads in the urinals.
4) They need to post instructions on how to turn the faucets on...These are not your normal run of the mill motion sensors...After I figured it out I helped out 3 other guys get their hands washed.
5) Eat before you get here...You know how all the other fancy dancy hotels have at least one coffee shop...Well, the WYNN sorta has one...But with menu items over $30 I wouldn't really call it a coffee shop. Heck, the entree's in the nice restaurants were only $40.
6) They set up the shops so that you always come to a dead end and have to walk by all of the shops over again...Not a bad idea...But who can afford to buy anything anyway??? My wife saw a nice $1,200 pair of shoes...And I saw my first 40 karat diamond...Although I'm sure they have the same thing at Imposters over at Mandalay Bay for about 99% less...And then the have a Ferrari Dealership inside...But they didn't even have price tags on the little collector cars...I guess if you have to ask you can't afford it.
7) $300 minimum on the Blackjack tables!!!...And that was in the main casino...Wonder what it is over in the High Roller Area???...Maybe Dave knows???...However, they did have a few $15 min. tables.
8 )Except for the Poker Room...It was least crowded place I've been to so far...Maybe it is because they don't allow strollers in the hotel...What the heck kinda rule is that?...What???...Rich people don't have kids???
From Barron's:
What Free Trading Costs
By Theresa W. Carey
STOCKS OF RIVAL ONLINE BROKERS WENT INTO a tailspin recently, after Bank of America announced that it would offer commission-free trading through Banc of America Investment Services to customers with more than $25,000 in bank deposits. The shares have rebounded, but their dramatic reaction suggests that this might be an offer many electronic investors and traders would jump at. But are free trades a free lunch?
Now available in 18 states, including New York, New Jersey and Florida, the offer from Bank of America (ticker: BAC) is open to banking customers with combined balances of $25,000 or more in their checking, savings, CD and FDIC-insured IRA accounts. Those who qualify are entitled to 30 free equity trades a month -- but still pay the usual fees for mutual funds, options and other transactions. BofA will roll the offer out in phases nationwide by the end of the first quarter of 2007.
BofA (www.bankofamerica.com (http://www.bankofamerica.com/)) is definitely the biggest but certainly not the only recent price-cutter. A new brokerage service, Zecco (www.zecco.com (http://www.zecco.com/)), opened its virtual doors on Oct. 9, trumpeting no-tier zero-commission trades. (The tiny broker cheekily took credit for prompting Bank of America's offer.) And SogoInvest (www.sogoinvest.com (http://www.sogoinvest.com/)) entered the market in July, touting $3 trades. The rough industrywide average right now is about $10 a trade, with lots of variation, based on volume, frequency, creditworthiness and account size. Other brokers say they don't plan to cut commissions.
Cheap trades, although attention-getting, aren't new -- remember FreeTrade and Brokerage America? What gets lost in the hullabaloo about free trades is that there are many components to the costs of investing; commissions are just one piece.
When we compile Barron's rankings of online brokers every March, we certainly factor in stock commissions as part of our "Cost" ranking. But we also evaluate options, mutual-fund and bond-trading commissions and look at rates paid for cash kept in accounts, as well as what customers have to pay to buy shares on margin.
Drilling down into the Zecco offer, for instance, we find that customers receive 1% interest -- on any cash balance -- on the low side. And BofA pays just 0.35% on balances under $10,000, and about 1.5% on amounts between $25,000 and $50,000. Even Interactive Brokers (www.interactivebrokers.com (http://www.interactivebrokers.com/)), which has kept trading costs low for its customers for years, pays upward of 4% on cash balances at present. (The exact formula depends on how much cash is held in an account.)
The bank, of course, hopes to win over new customers and persuade existing ones to put more in their accounts. In a statement, Liam McGee, president, Bank of America Global Consumer & Small Business Banking, says: "Customers appreciate the simplicity and convenience of using a single, trusted financial institution for all their banking and investment needs, and are motivated by the preferred pricing and other rewards it can bring." A BofA spokesman says it's much too early to assess customer response, but "there seems to be a great deal of appetite."
Free trading can be useful for certain investors. If you've got a small brokerage account and trade in small blocks, say 100 or 200 shares at a time, you might come out ahead by paying no commission, even if you give up some execution quality. On the other hand, free commissions may not be a huge priority to investors and traders putting up wads of money. Says Muriel Siebert, president of online brokerage Siebertnet.com: "I don't think the cheap brokers are the best overall value if you're trading in large quantities."
She emphasizes that people with large accounts have to look at the entire suite of a broker's offerings, including the quality of customer service and what they're paying on cash. "A few service niceties, low margin rates, decent returns on cash and whether they sweep your cash to a money market every day -- that's what will change an investor's return," Siebert states. Features like sophisticated trading tools and the system's operability may also be important to these clients.
Steve Sanders, managing director, business development at Interactive Brokers, says, "No brokerage is in business for charity. They have to make their money somewhere." For instance, you'll find Google-generated ads all over Zecco.com. Sanders says, "That wouldn't be the worst thing in the world to deal with if you're only doing a few trades per year."
This is not to suggest that the inexpensive brokers mentioned here are doing this -- but dealers can find ways to pad their revenues by not offering the best execution, says Sanders. "A cheap broker might be slower with routing, and might route orders to get payment for order flow," he says. In other words, the broker can get paid to send the order to a particular market maker or exchange, even if it doesn't necessarily offer the best prices.
Sanders also points out that brokers make a lot of money on the cash in your account and can charge you much higher margin fees to make up for not charging commissions. He concludes, "I think [free trades] are more applicable to the novice sector of the brokerage space."
There is, in other words, no such thing as a free trade.

I'd seriously consider it , but the wife has to stay near her roots. How often does it get above 90 degrees or below 20 degrees each year? What would the taxes be on that property?

I'd guess we get about 25 days above 90..... and 25 days below 20 each year. The taxes are very reasonable, but I can't remember exactly how much. I'll look it up.

There might be...but I went to the city that I would probably least like to live in in CA...Blythe...They have some but they look like shacks...I wouldn't think you could find anything worth living in in the 3/2 catagory for 200 grand in CA...Doug

Doug, you know what I think about one of those ;) If you ever wanted to try shorting a stock, then I think this might be your opportunity. $45.40 was the highest ever close, and that price level is significant today. I have my doubts whether it will close above that... especially with the weakness today in the airline stocks.

I don't even know who 'SC is playing. If they play Temple I'll give you 'SC and 35 points. Wait a minute , what I'm saying is they'd beat Temple by 35 or more. Actually Temple is playing in the "Toilet Bowl" they haven't found a suitable opponent yet. Maybe a rematch with Bowl-ing Green.

Maybe Temple could play UNLV???...I know Park was ticked at my first Bottom 10 list this year when his beloved Rebels were right in there...Or was he ticked 'cause Louetta prefers to flirt with me rather than him???
Anyway...Temple vs. UNLV...Could be a nice defensive battle???...LOL

Doug,
Thumbing through some of your post, I see that you use your own version of RS and not IBD. Are you running that on your own platform or one an "off the self software" (Amibroker, Metastock, Tradestation, or etc)? I am trying to write a code for Amibroker based upon Pitbullinvestor.com version of RS, but my programing skills suck and I cannot quite get it right, but someday I will.

Interesting day as Naz closes right on Support.
Been a tough 3 weeks on the DT front although I eneded green last week and the week prior...But not by much. Today I lost .10 on OPWV and then lost .04 the second time I bot it. Scratched on BSX and made .11 on HTI...Went to work...it was kinda BLAH...Was watching TGEN early but I wasn't watching too close as the market wasn't in a good mood...But I got in 3x in the 6.20's(a bit late tho)...it goes up but then pulls back to an earlier low..about 6.07ish...thot of adding again as it bounced but I didn't...Trimmed 1/2 for +.18 then trimmed again for .39 and finally out in the 6.70's for .54...it went further but I felt good about the whole thing...Especially when it pulled back later. Also tried ONNN and got .08...Doug

Ringo,
There is a magazine called "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities" which has alot of interesting technical analysis articles in it plus alot of information on writing code for programming your own indicatiors for RS, RSI, money flow, stockastics, and many more. They also give you the code for writing specific functions for all of the trading platforms, some of which you mentioned including Tradestation, Metastock, and a host of others. I've been working with it trying to teach myself how to write code for Excel but it's not my forte and my know how is much less than my desire it seems. Anyway I've been plugging away at it for awhile now and it takes time. You should look into this magazine and what they have to offer. I'm sure it could and would be a big help in your quest to learn to write some code for these indicators.

Ringo,
There is a magazine called "Technical Analysis of Stocks and Commodities" which has alot of interesting technical analysis articles in it plus alot of information on writing code for programming your own indicatiors for RS, RSI, money flow, stockastics, and many more.
The program I use for TA is Amibroker; they provide a copy of the code written by the progammers that is submitted to Stocks and Commodities. :D However, I am trying out a new trading system, and like you - I am trying to teach myself how to program to code the system, since there is no public code that matches what I need.

Not a bad week...The last 2 weeks seemed like a struggle on the DT front although I made some each week...This week...while nothing to write home about was better...Today I took it easy but I made .24 avg on my new fave TGEN, lost .02 on GME and miraculously made .35 on that WILD TZOO ride...
But I am a bit concerned at first glance...The Naz 100 and Naz Comp +DI (Default) crossed down for the first time since August...Although the BP was up on both...Will have to do some serious charting this weekend.

Text Of Federal Reserve's Interest Rate Decision
NEW YORK (Dow Jones)--The following is the verbatim text of the Federal Reserve's decision on interest rates released Tuesday, Dec. 12:
The Federal Open Market Committee decided today to keep its target for the federal funds rate at 5-1/4 percent.
Economic growth has slowed over the course of the year, partly reflecting a substantial cooling of the housing market. Although recent indicators have been mixed, the economy seems likely to expand at a moderate pace on balance over coming quarters.
Readings on core inflation have been elevated, and the high level of resource utilization has the potential to sustain inflation pressures. However, inflation pressures seem likely to moderate over time, reflecting reduced impetus from energy prices, contained inflation expectations, and the cumulative effects of monetary policy actions and other factors restraining aggregate demand.
Nonetheless, the Committee judges that some inflation risks remain. The extent and timing of any additional firming that may be needed to address these risks will depend on the evolution of the outlook for both inflation and economic growth, as implied by incoming information.
Voting for the FOMC monetary policy action were: Ben S. Bernanke, Chairman; Timothy F. Geithner, Vice Chairman; Susan S. Bies; Donald L. Kohn; Randall S. Kroszner; Frederic S. Mishkin; Sandra Pianalto; William Poole; Kevin M. Warsh; and Janet L. Yellen. Voting against was Jeffrey M. Lacker, who preferred an increase of 25 basis points in the federal funds rate target at this meeting.

Re: Ken Lay, I don't believe it was natural. This guy was a capitalist soldier, fully sold out to the Big Bucks, and finally a convicted white-collar criminal. He wasn't going to let a lifetime of financial accomplishments be fully taken away. His remains were cremated. Big surprise. The Lays had more than one home concurrently in Aspen over the years (reference: http://www.khou.com/topstories/stories/khou060705_mh_laybio.29d73d64.html ).
I'm thinking the Lays had tentacles all through Aspen at the time the s**t hit the fan. There are plenty of ways pharmaceutically to trigger a MI. The guy already had coronary artery disease and hosted a couple of stents, but the news reports made a point of saying Lay showed no signs of ill health during the trial. The coroner had "plausible deniability."

My wife doesn't even believe he's dead...It would be pretty easy to find someone to take your place...Find some guy who is dying of cancer and has about 3 months to live...Pay his family a few million bux and cremate the body...Pay off a coupla doctors and some podunk coroner and you're sippin' Mai Tais in your Angolan Villa for the next 20 years.

OK...I will post it a little later
Interesting day...I've been thinking about this for a while on the Day trade front.
One of my lists each morning are what I call Morning Movers...Stocks that are up pretty good pre-market. I make a list and watch them the first 20-30 mins along with all my other lists. On this list which may also include others that I see gapped I look for p/b's after about a half hour and then wait to see if any make another move which I can get some of.
Although many never make another move or I'm not there to see it, I've been thinking about doing the opposite...This morn I put together a list of 10 that were down quite a bit after 5 mins and then added 2 more after 20 mins. I looked for those that opened and then went down or those like ADCT and VRTX that gapped down.
I then watched for them to reverse up after the first 1/2 hour.
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=OXPS&t=1d +.15
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=POZN&t=1d +.11
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=ADCT&t=1d +.22
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=VRTX&t=1d -.30 and +.48
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=SIRF&t=1d -.11
Those are all the ones I bot in the morning...all dt's...did OK but would've done much better if I had held them longer.
Another one on the list was DVAX which I bot late in the 9.40's and heldover:
http://finance.yahoo.com/q/bc?s=DVAX&t=1d
Others on the original list were CELG COWN LIHR NTRI CENT ACLI.
One day doesn't mean much...but I made some money and it was pretty interesting.
I will watch this for a while and see how it goes.
I also traded AKS for +5 cents...too bad I was late for the party.
I sorta rushed this peanuts so it is not real clear...But that is a Super tight ema band...I can envision an explosion coming up...Hope it is an upward one:

E*Trade to Move Back to Nasdaq
Departure from Big Board
Retraces Contentious Steps;
Promotion Deal Turns Tide
By GASTON F. CERON
December 15, 2006
E*Trade Financial (http://online.wsj.com/quotes/main.html?type=djn&symbol=ET) Corp. is leaving the New York Stock Exchange to relist its shares with Nasdaq Stock Market (http://online.wsj.com/quotes/main.html?type=djn&symbol=ndaq) Inc., dealing a blow to the Big Board and reversing a high-profile defection that once embarrassed Nasdaq.
On Dec. 27, E*Trade will move its shares back to Nasdaq, where they will trade under the symbol ETFC, E*Trade President R. Jarrett Lilien said.
E*Trade's decision to leave the New York Stock Exchange, a unit of NYSE Group (http://online.wsj.com/quotes/main.html?type=djn&symbol=nyx) Inc., is an about-face for the investment-services company, which left Nasdaq for the NYSE in 2001. Back then, losing E*Trade stung Nasdaq officials because much of E*Trade's growth had been fueled by small investors trading Nasdaq-listed stocks.
Nasdaq's chief executive at the time, Hardwick Simmons, said in 2001 that he was caught off guard by the move and even reached out to E*Trade's chief at the time, Christos Cotsakos, to no avail.
This switch also isn't without controversy. Part of the reason behind E*Trade's change is a plan for Nasdaq to help promote an E*Trade business that provides companies with employee stock-plan administration and options-management tools, Mr. Lilien said.
A spokesman for the NYSE, Richard Adamonis, says E*Trade first unsuccessfully sought a similar arrangement with the NYSE.
"E*Trade has informed us that they are entering into a commercial relationship with Nasdaq for stock-option services -- a relationship that we had declined when approached by E*Trade," said Mr. Adamonis. E*Trade provides options-plan services to NYSE Group, but Mr. Adamonis said NYSE Group is now "terminating E*Trade."
Mr. Lilien said he had been left with the impression that the NYSE could have worked with E*Trade on a plan to promote the company's stock-option services.
Regardless of the reason, losing E*Trade comes at a time when the NYSE and Nasdaq are locked in a battle for stock listings and trading market share. While Nasdaq still loses some companies to the NYSE, Nasdaq CEO Robert Greifeld has been able to stem those losses. He also has made inroads into the trading of NYSE-listed stocks on Nasdaq's systems.
He has even won a few victories in the listings war. Last year, he signed up another company with a big online-brokerage business, Charles Schwab Corp. San Francisco-based Schwab had been listed on both the NYSE and Nasdaq.
Also factoring into E*Trade's decision was the cheaper listing fees levied by Nasdaq, Mr. Lilien said. "We can save a reasonable amount of money that can be reinvested back" into the company, he said.
He also pointed out that a majority of E*Trade clients trade on Nasdaq or other electronic venues. "We're aligning ourselves with where our customers trade," he said.
When E*Trade left for the Big Board in 2001, the NYSE made the most of the opportunity, parading a horse ridden by a monkey on the trading floor, a reference to a similar image used in an E*Trade advertisement. It was one of the listing stunts often used by Dick Grasso, NYSE's then-chairman, to trumpet the exchange's wins.

I'd be more inclined to expect this stock to do poorly based on the chart. In fact, if it closes today (friday) below $10, then look out below.
The tightening bands do suggest a big move and its feasible that it could be up, no question. But the 40 week average is descending and that's not a good thing.

Yes, interesting... what made you do this, or is this not something new? I've been doing something similar, but on a weekly basis. I entered GHDX, long, near last week's low... looking for a nice bounce this coming week. In hindsight, I've been seeing nice entries at these levels with many different stocks. This market still has support, and it is worth playing, IMO.
At least one of us made money on SIM today http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon14.gif

I've been thinking about it for a while...I would look at some of the charts at night and I noticed that some had their low for the day during the first half hour...But I never tracked it.
Now, for over 2 years I have put those that are up big pre-m or early in my streamer...My idea has always been to wait for a p/b and a second move...Some do but overall I don't get many from that list...Again, I never tracked it but it certainly seems that many of those peak in the first half hour.
So I figured that I'd put the losers on my streamer and track them...I'm not officially tracking all of them every night but when I do check at night it seems to be true that many react the way I thought...But obviously not all.
Anyway, I decided to test it out with real trades and I started on Wednesday. It is a little scary though because I have seen some start to rebound and then turn around and tank further...And there is sure no guarantee that they will rebound again...So, that's why you see so many small gainers.
Take ZOLT...I bot it and got scared out for .31...but it rebounded again and I went back in at .27 higher than I sold the first time...so I could've made .27 more than I did by not selling the first time.
Take VRTX on Wed...I lost .30...then it rebounds and I make .48 the second time around...I could've made .30 more overall since I bot it the second time for the same price I paid the first time.
But it could work the other way too...And that would not be good...It could easily happen that a stock goes down and down and I lose over a buck...Would take 5 .20 gainers to get back even plus commssion.
I set certain points and watch the p/v...that influences my hold decision quite a bit.
But I'm just getting started w/ this...I doubt that it will become a regular thing...But my first inclination is that it will give me another way to trade...Best, Doug

I went to your public list (and voted). I like TTEC for a multiweek hold.
Ill never understand the appeal of these business services stocks (ie PRFT), but people like this stuff. I see TTEC going to $30. A double from its pre October earnings base. Looks like a good buy at current price.

Thanks for the vote.
I still cannot update mt list for this monday over there though....I'll try later...Best, Doug
PS...Just remember that the IIC 100 is only a list of stocks that meet some minimum criteria I set up...I rarely like more than 5 to 15 of them

I'm glad i found this place. i got a reference from a Yahoo message board.
I used to have a public chart list but i turned it off because nobody was voting for me. I think i can bring something to the table here, this is a better format for sharing then a public list by itself.
My time-frames are usually weeks to months, not more then a year. I look for industry trends and try to find the best stocks within those industries. I sort by brute force of trolling through 100's of charts everyday and then work backwards from the best looking charts. I dont use any indicators or any screens other then looking at the top 200 or so winners each day. Right now i like non-res construction related stuff. So i own CHAP and PCR as they directly relate. Then ive got AP as it relates to steel. STLD is probably a decent steel too but i already own a mother load of CHAP from $32.5 which is superior. I got wind of the CHAP call by Mr Market and thats how i ended up here.
TTEC is in business services and ive owned PRFT in the past as it had a nice set up in late '05-early '06. It remains a hot sector although the current valuations dont seem to make much sense. But TTEC has a compelling chart currently + Q4 is always good for business services. Not yet sure if i actually buy this one or not.
Amazingly some of the megacaps look good. GE, CSCO, MSFT, KO. Its hard to admit but the charts say these are quality. The action on GE especially has to bode well for the market in general.
Lastly ill throw in USLM for breakout watchers.
http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=USLM&p=W&yr=2&mn=6&dy=0&id=p92488250420
Its a duel play on natgas and steel/construction.
Well...Stockcharts is gradually getting it back...some stuff is now Friday's while some is still Thur's...However, I was able to get in and update the IIC 100 List.
As a matter of fact 2 people I know just deleted their lists last week...A lot of work for most...But mine only takes a minute because I don't provide annotations or any comments...So it is no big deal to post it.
Speaking of large caps...Barron's likes ConocoPhillips
Hopefully you can see the article here: http://trimurl.com/9UX
Things are not looking good...If the mid 5.30's can't hold I think I will sell the rest
http://img435.imageshack.us/img435/6246/icocgu8.gif (http://imageshack.us)
For Newbies:
Everyday for the past 2 1/2+ years...except when I'm on vacation(Which seems to be quite often lately...LOL)...I post a list called "Today's MoMo" around the Net. MoMo=Momentum
This list is NOT a list of recommendations...It is a list of the top 5% of my Relative Strength(RS) Database of 5500+ equities that closed up 2%+ on at least 1.5x ADV. My RS may not match others because I use 1-100 RS ratings and the treatment of IPO's may be different...But they should be close on a 1 year scale since the formula is basic.
Anyway, these stocks are in NO WAY good IMO just because they are on the list...I offer it only as a tool for those who want to further research w/ my list parameters.
Notice that I post them w/ MACD 2,13,12...I have found that to be helpful on 5 min, 60min and Daily charts for short-term trading (Too whippy on 1 min charts)...THX...Doug(IIC)

boy, if you look at the bullish% #'s, they were all hitting the high notes this week. So they're still alot of bulls out there.

You have to post this chart every 2 weeks, OK? This thing is awesome. http://www.mrmarketishuge.com/images/icons/icon14.gif The crossovers and tightening/widening on the moving averages puts a nice perspective on the market environment. The "fake-out" point would have been frustrating to trade. Is there a confirmation that you use other than the ribbon crossover to confirm market direction?
Here is a 5 year chart of the Naz Composite Bullish Percentage...The Naz comp chart is at the top.
I know it is difficult to see but I put bullish signs based on the ADX in green. The bearish or neutral signs are in blue. There isn't enough room to distinguish between them.
I would consider it Bullish when the +DI line is above the -DI AND above the ADX. When the +DI dips below the -DI AND/OR the ADX it is time to be out long. If the -DI is above the +DI AND ADX it is a short signal. If the +DI simply crosses below the ADX but not the -DI it is a neutral signal.
You can reverse that for the -DI.

I hate to sound Canslimmish...But they need to stir up some institutional interest...Long term...I like it...Looks like a good eps increase candidate...But I'm looking for short term...So now I prefer AEIS in that group...But I would not be surprised to see TRT as a longer term Winner...I just don't have the patience.

No...but some people do
Decided to trade today...GCH +.29 ASIA +.28 and heldover ARO and SSRI
I’m not familiar with the MACD indicator. What are some of the positives and negatives of this indicator? How does it perform in a trending market and range bound one?
It is just one thing I look at...But it is pretty popular...The Default is 12,26,9...and that's what I'm talking about on the crossover lists...But I use 5,20,10 and peanuts 2,13,12 more often.
I also prefer a vertical move over than a meandering crossover.
This explains MACD better than I can:
http://stockcharts.com/education/IndicatorAnalysis/indic_MACD1.html
I never did a study but crossovers seem to do better on market up days than down days...But a crossover by itself doesn't mean much to me...I would just use it in combo with some other indicators...In fact many crossovers don't do very well.

Doug thanks for the link. I have never looked into the MACD signal and will read the info from the link you posted…
I looked at SSRI and see caution here as it does appear to have lost some momo.. Hope it pops this current range for ya and moves into higher ground.

Runner

I would be willing to say the positive divergences might carry more weight then a simple crossing of the signal line? Doug have you looked into this? Does Stockcharts allow you to set up a scan for divergence?
Runner

Mindset for this scan might be a downtrend >6 months followed by a pop up and then another flush out in price. During this time look for signal line to cross up. Does this make any sense?

yes...I believe you are right...although I am not aware of a divergence scan at stockcharts, although it may be possible to write one

which are your top 10 stocks...ranked 1 from 10.
cheers
When I post them I do so in descending order from #1 to #100.
Now admittedly, as I have posted before...The % loss/gain calculation has a flaw...The %'s calculate that you buy a stock that appears on each list at the open on the first trading day of the week and sell it at the close on the last trading day of the week if it drops off the list....If it stays on the list you hold until it drops off.
However, no one would know which stocks were going to drop off the list until after the market closed on the last trading day except that the IBD folks could know on their list and I could know on my list assumming we both ran our scans about 1 minute before the market closed.
I guess a fairer way would be that you had to sell at the open on the subsequent first trading day after the lists are posted if they dropped off...But I am not the one who does the calculations...Another fellow does it.
It is sort of interesting that the IBD Top 10 was red for the year though...It makes sense as the CSSGX was red too...But IBD claims that the IBD 100 was up over 11% for the year...Wonder how they figure that out???...Perhaps it is too late by the time stocks make it into the Top 10...I don't know.

yes if that calculation is correct....and ibd claims different that it would be interesting....personally, i like both lists(yours and ibd) just for watch list prospects and wait for them to break out....did it with GROW and IAAC for nice gains....i am going to keep track of my top 10(based on my scan..not ibd 100 related) and yours and see how my 10 matches your top 10.
cheers

Yes...both lists are simply possible ideas. I look at both myself. However, I feel that the parameters I set up are more forward looking than IBD's.
In regards to my list I might find 5-15 that I may watch closely each week...They are not necessarily the ones near the top of the list though. The scan is strictly mechanical...In fact, some weeks I feel like manually eliminating some...But I don't...It is what it is I guess.

I think I've said most of this before...But the database I use is not really mine. I have a friend who gives me access to his database via the web as long as I don't post any of his proprietary stuff.
He has his own Relative Strength formula from 1-100. He also has a bunch of criteria for sorting. But he does not have the same criteria that IBD has. For example, he has no EPS percentile rating. But that doesn't interest me anyway as I'm more interested in what is happening now and what may happen in the future than what happened up to 5 years ago...Sorta like "I don't care what you did for me yesterday...I wanna know what you are gonna do for me tomorrow" type of mindset.
As I've said before, I will reveal my criteria when WON reveals his...LOL...But basically I use RS, current earnings, projected earnings and a few other criteria.

My study of this MACD also indicates in most cases a huge volume spike near the turning point. This is seen on a daily chart. It appears to me this volume surge is a key ingredient for a possible change in trend.

MACD Crossovers BEFORE They Crossover

I wouldn't call them screaming buys...And I do not like the ADX charts on either...but some of the other indicators seem to say that they may be coming out of oversold territory

MACD Crossovers BEFORE They Crossover
Let's see, 2 weeks ago we had 28. It took 2 weeks but 27 of them at least temporarily crossed over. Last week we had 10...Took 3 days but all of them at least temporarily crossed over.
This week we have 19:
MIPS,SIL,VVTV,AUY,CAAS,CCOI,CNQ,HD,HIW,IOC,NHP,NVL ,SMOD,SNUS,SVM,BRKR,CEI,CUTR,UTEK
Little Charts:

At the end of the day only 4 ended up crossed over...However, I was watching them in Real Time early and 13 of them had crossed over on the Intraday Daily charts. You cannot see that though on an end of the day Daily chart

Well...My Beta test Time expires tomorrow at IBD Alerts...I just completed their survey.
Other than the fact that I got an alert on New Year's Day... I rated it pretty high...They have some good choices regarding getting alerts on some of their proprietary lists...e.g. IBD 100, 85-85 etc. All the alerts I entered were triggered either the same or next minute...although the one minute difference could be attributed to the differences in our watch settings(Mine is set for Atomic time)...So no complaints there.
I didn't use it as much as I should have...But I like the Price/Volume Combo feature they have.
Overall...I rate it a 9 outta 10...
BUT...In my mind I decided that I would subscribe if it was $10 a month...I can see more value for some traders...But for my style...I figured that was what it would be worth to me because I would rarely need/use it....However, I can envision certain types as benefitting more from it than I would.
But on the "Willing To Pay" section of the survey the range was $29.95mo to $99.95mo...
So I will take a pass...Doug(IIC)

Nothing is wrong with it...In fact, I am glad you brought it to my attention...I find it very useful in my short-term trading and I will continue using it. I have multiple MACD's set up in my scans.
However, it is very "Whippy"...Which is fine for me..."Mr. 5 Minute Trader"...But much of what I post is just info that I hope will be of interest and/or help others...And I believe that most people that read my posts here and at other forums and chats I am in are more long term than 5 minutes on most of their trades.
But I do thank you for bringing it up...And I will continue using it...And yes, it can be helpful to people that trade for more than 5 mins(I was exaggerating a bit on that time-frame comment above)...However, I think more readers of my posts who like/use MACD will find more benefit from 10,20,5...Doug(IIC)
IIC Top 10 vs. IBD Top 10
It's actually ludicrous to post the first week's results...IIC Top 10 ahead by 6% YTD.
I don't know about everyone else, but I wonder why my mechanical list which costs virtually "Zilch" to produce and takes all of about 30 seconds a week can consistently outperform a mechanical list that costs million$ to create and takes how many people to come up with it???
Some will say I am tooting my own horn...Some will say I am arrogant...But I charge nothing for the info I produce and as far as I am concerned my IIC 100 list is more forward looking than WON could ever come up with no matter how much you pay him.

Interesting to see FORG in the #1 spot on your IIC 100 list Doug. I think your scan parameters sometimes pick them up a bit late, only my opinion because I see many of the stocks on your list have already begun the move. I think it would be nice to become aware of them sooner before the move begins an to be able to place them on a watchlist beforehand. I don't know how you set your scans up but is there a feasible way that you could adjust your scans to pick them up sooner or are the scans set to pick them up only after the move and the momentum has begun. I think it is the later but still they do provide a good list of stocks to watch for a continuation of the momentum upward.

Sorry Doug my mistake on that part. So is that list a product of your own momentum scans or just a list of the days momentum stocks that you got from somewhere else and posted here. I see the time stamp on the post is at 1:18 pm so I'm figuring some percentage of the momo has had to have happened by the time this list was posted although not necessarily so with FORG since most of it's move came later in the day.

1:18 pm is today when I responded to you...My original post on Friday's MoMo was posted yesterday(Saturday)
I can run my MoMo (momentum scan) at any time as I have access RealTime...Sometimes I post it during the day but not lately since I have been concentrating mostly on my Loser's List for day trading the last month or so.
To reiterate previous posts...My MoMo Lists are:
A list of the top 5% of my Relative Strength(RS) Database of 5500+ equities that closed up 2%+ on at least 1.5x ADV. My RS may not match others because I use 1-100 RS ratings and the treatment of IPO's may be different...But they should be close since the formula is basic.
Anyway, these stocks are in NO WAY good IMO just because they are on the MoMo list...I offer it only as a tool for those who want to do further research w/ my list parameters.
I could post the MoMo list right when the market closes although there are still some orders coming in for a while...I usually wait for an hour or so or I post them that night when I get home...Although on Friday's list I wait till the weekend most times because there is no rush. This past week I waited till Saturday(yesterday).
As far as The IIC 100...They are not recommendations either...Just stocks that meet certain parameters...I'll reveal those parameters when WON reveals the IBD 100 parameters as I've said before.
But basically, the IIC 100 are in the Top 30% of my RS database that have very good recent eps % increases and very good projections...There are other criteria but I will leave it at that for now...Again...NO RECOMMENDATIONS...Just a list of ideas.
I added some indicators I use on the IIC 100 at Stockcharts this year...I hope this helps people pick some for further investigation.
For example...Of the IIC 100 for tomorrow...I will be watching the following closely:

"B" LIST:

DJ Chavez: To Nationalize Elec Indus, CANTV Telecom
.
(This article was originally published Monday.)
CARACAS (Dow Jones)--Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez on Monday said his government will nationalize the electricity industry and the CA Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, the country's largest telecom company.
In a string of surprise announcements that will change the face of the economy, the president said congress is set to give him special powers so he can write a number of laws, taking a similar path as he did in 2001.
The leftist leader also noted his government will throw out the standing commerce code, the basic framework of business laws, and will replace with with something more appropriate for his socialist revolution.
"All those strategic sectors like electricity - all those things that were privatized, nationalize them," Chavez said during his first televised speech of 2007.
"The CA Nacional Telefonos de Venezuela, nationalize it...the nation must recover those strategic means," he said.
His announcement came just minutes after he said that congress should soon give him special powers to pass a host of new laws that will advance his socialist goals.
One of the key changes would be to rework the commerce code that underpins how companies and associations are created, giving way to a set of laws with a decidedly socialist outlook.
The president also noted that foreign oil companies can no longer have control over the oil upgraders located along the Orinoco river belt. "Those must pass on to government hands," he said. It was unclear if he was referring to a decision to increase the government's take to 51% of those upgrading projects.
Chavez's latest moves appear to lend credence to critics who have often feared the president's economic policies would soon take a more radical bent.
In 2001, members of congress gave the president special powers allowing him to pass a series of laws that included a controversial land reform, among others.

Doug,
Why don't you post some of these daytrades at the time of entry or just before you pull the trigger so that we might be able to make avail of them realtime or close to it. Even if they were a minute or two or five afterwards we still might be able to make the play or at least be aware of them. So far after the fact doesn't have the same impact as closer to realtime.

No time...I post in a couple of chat rooms...Usually within 30 seconds to 3 minutes depending on how many I'm doing at one time.
One chat room is open to the public...free registration...pm me if you want the address...Doug(IIC)
Naz 100 BP still looks a lot better than the Naz Composite... Could we be settin' up for a big correction soon on the Comp and maybe both?

AXR now down over 18%...Geez!!! I wonder what happened???
The New York Stock Exchange said it asked Amrep Corp. (AXR) to issue a statement explaining the unusual market activity in its stock Monday, but said the company declined, saying its policy is not to comment on any such activity.
Shares of the New York real-estate developer were recently trading down $17.47, or 13%, at $118.88 on volume of more than 1.06 million shares. Average daily volume is 263,027 shares.
Kept going down...but the 50sma held...however, GROW, blew down past the 50 so I'd say AXR is too risky to count on a significant bounce...Could be some bad news looming???

Iffy on the SPX ribbon...However, the other indicators I show are all looking bearish.
The NDX looks worse...although(not shown)...The Naz Comp does not look nearly as bad.

Here is 1st Level S/R according to my Super Duper S/R Scanner:
Naz:
Resistance: 2455...VERY STRONG
Support: 23.95ish
QQQQ:
Resistance: 43.80...Strong
Support: 42.75...Medium
The above is not necessarily Day Trade S/R...that is a different scan...Consider it Intermediate S/R
First of all I overslept and missed the open.
First trade was not good:
QID -.35
Then QLD +.43, QID -.05, QLD +.51, QLD +.33, QLD +.16.
The first trade I went with what I "thought" was gonna happen...worst thing to do day trading...The rest of them I went with what "was" happening. Even though I lost a little on the 2nd QID trade I don't feel it was a bad call...the Naz 100 just reversed.
On the first trade I made a second mistake...When I was down about .12 it was obvious I shoulda sold...Oh well, made some overall.
2 new Proshares 2x ETF's for the RUT...Not much action yet though:
TWM and UWM

Traded QID in the morning 2x +.40 and +.35...Was very patient.
Both QID and QLD closed green today.
I received a question about that today...I'm no expert but here is part of my response:
I traded QID 2x this morning...+.40 and +.35...Never got another chance to go either way but it certainly appears that if I am patient and simply wait for all the stuff I watch to start moving one way or the other then there is a good chance of making some $$$.
Anyway, The QQQQ, QID and QLD track the Naz 100...but there are imbalances all the time due to Supply/Demand of the ETF. I've often seen both the QLD and QID green at the same time. In fact, they both closed green today.
Here are the closing %'s and the theoretical closing percentages:
Naz 100...-.05%
QQQQ...-.11%...-05%
QLD...+.12%...-.10%
QID...+.40%...+.10%
I don't know, but imbalances could reflect sentiment. The prices of the ETF's are not tied to the price of the index...they are priced according to supply/demand of the ETF, just like a stock.
The QLD and QID get into all types of investments...most of which I forgot...But options, derivatives, futures are part of it as I recall.
Over the long haul QID and QLD should go double the direction of the Naz 100...But there is no guarantee...Unfortunately, most of the sites that describe them talk like it is a given that they will...However, the people that write most of those articles became writers because they were lousy investors.
On another note regarding the post above...I think a lot of writers confuse ETF's w/ Mutual Funds.

Booooooring!...Plus I am sick.
QLD -.31 QLD -.21 QID +.22.
I owned the second QLD for most of the day...I just bot QID when I went to take a shower this morning...Don't know if it is a very good idea to own both at the same time...Used it as sort of a protection although one could actually lose both ways...or one could make money both ways
Lost a little today on those.
Nice to see ABAX back over 22 :)

Example of chart and how well it appears to capture longer trend. Code is pretty simple to write. TC2000 has a new feature called snapsheets http://www.worden.com/XMLPage.aspx?xmlpage=snapsheetspage
It allows you to write block code for your charts and conduct a lot of neat research. The link provides a demo of some of the features it offers.

Here is an awesome example of allowing some wiggle room with a small account using proper position sizing and profit retracement stops. Notice in the first chart this position only used 76 shares with a huge 20% stop. Risk was set for only 1% of the 20K. This means max pain allowed was 200.00. Any R/R plan over 1.0 is good. This position needed to hit 16.90 for you to set stop at 15.73. This would ensure a tiny profit. The 30% retrace gives it 1.17 wiggle. Next once 18.85 is hit you move stop to 17.39. So you adjust the retrace to your likings.
Advantages- Enter and set stop and leave it alone. Zero baby-sitting and less decisions to make. Fewer decisions often means larger profits IMO. Risk with in tolerance despite the 20% stop.
Disadvantages- smaller position and so profits will be smaller ..
Anyone care to interject some feedback on this?
http://img248.imageshack.us/img248/9036/riskmanxy0.png (http://imageshack.us)
http://img236.imageshack.us/img236/7962/profitretraceuc7.png (http://imageshack.us)
I see nothing wrong with this and IMO this might be a pretty strong plan for many who are busy and don’t baby-sit the markets. Anyone can allocate a certain amount of port for trying to capture the huge gains. Will this work all the time? Nope you will get your share of stops, but what is important is that you get the occasional home run. These will more then cover the stops hit. Imagine making money by being wrong more then your right.
Maybe I missed this...But how long would you hold it if it just flat lined...it could run between say 11 and 14 for months...or longer?
And of course there is always the possibility of it being...say 10.60...they announce A/H...super bad and it opens at 9 the next morn and you are out.
I'm not saying it is not a good plan but it may not work according to theory...at least none of my plans ever do...Doug

Doug, you would need to setup your plans. I will make a bold statement here on MM’s forum. “The fewer decisions you make the better your performance”. How’s that for a statement. Anything can happen once in a position and in reality the only thing that matters once you’re in is following your plan for better or worse. This example is not a day trade or swing example.
As for the stock flat lining who cares it has not hit the stop I’d stick with it. In fact don’t even look at the stock but maybe once a week. How’s that for avoiding the micromanaging we all so much love to do.

The top Excel program is from a buddy I know in Canada and so I’ve never posted it before. I was not sure if he would approve. I have lost contact with him and doubt he would mind me sharing it. Should you want the Risk management program PM me with your e-mail and I’ll send it. You need Ecel to run it.
A little refresher...My MoMo list is posted after every market close. It consists of stocks in my Database of 5500 with a Relative Strength in the Top 5% that closed up at least 2% on at least 1.5x Average Daily Volume.
My Relative Strength rankings my not exactly match other's rankings because I use a ranking of 1 to 100, we don't have the same number of stocks in our databases and the treatment of IPO's is probably different. But the RS rankings are usually pretty close because the formula is basic.

Interesting...Q's up some A/H...50sma is 43.98 and 20ema is 44.02...Should provide resistance...Also 3ema is lower than 5 which is lower than 10 which is lower than 20ema...That is generally not bullish
I have made no trades this week...just watching...mostly options
