Doug, nothing wrong with a trail stop. I'm giving it .20 trail and when it triggeres I'm out. Chance to let on run?

19.05 is where I should get kicked out from the high..
Good luck w/ it Runner.
Problem is that I get interrupted at work...And I don't want to unexpectedly hold anything over (except my long termers) in case I miss the close. It has happened to me before.

I only used 60 min and 15 min for the set up. I don't key on 1-3 min charts anymore.. I thought it was in a 3 off the 15 min chart around 2:00.
One more trade...EGY avg 8.07
Runner
06-02-2006, 04:44 PM
I'll leave EGY alone based off 60 min chart..
Runner
06-02-2006, 04:46 PM
Doug, I see same set up for EGY around 2:00 off 15 min chart. I think that was the play. Good luck with the scalp..

Looking at several charts looks like 2:00 was the time to step in.. Anyone notice this?
Things change...Probably not many of you remember back in the 80's when WON pumped the Mutual Fund Cash Position as a good market indicator...I believed it...And it really was a good indicator IMO...He said under 8% was Bearish...But times changed and it doesn't seem to matter anymore.
The idea was that the more cash they had...The more they could go in and lift the market...Makes sense to me...But look at a 10 year chart...Obviously he doesn't mention it anymore...But times change...So I don't blame him on this one...Too bad he doesn't change many of the other antiquated CS principles:

Thanks for that list IIC!
I wanna filter that down for Creme of the Crop type qualities and do a simulated portfolio on the blog this week. I bet there are some gems in there too.
Have a nice weekend!
Thanks Spike...BTW...if you had purchased all the IIC 100 Top 10 at the open every week this year and sold at the close every week you'd be +30.89%...Still have not caught the IBD 100 Top 10 doing the same thing...I'm keeping the IBD gain under wraps until I pass them...Doug(IIC)

Hey Doug, do you mind if I run a continuing blog topic where I take your IIC 100 and filter it for a simulated portfolio system trade, similar to Creme of the Crop? I think it would perform very well and I could maybe boost traffic to either your thread here or your stockcharts page.

Have you ever wondered how many people order stuff because they trust the publication that the ad appears in?
I feel sorry for those people who blindly do that. I also think that publications that run ads should make sure that the claims in the ads are accurate...Maybe I'm too much of an idealist???
"YOU CAN PROFIT AND MAYBE EVEN CURE HEART DISEASE"..."YOU CAN MAKE A FREAKIN' FORTUNE WITH THIS...I MADE $200,000 IN JUST 14 MONTHS WITH A SUCCESS RATE OF 100%"
I'd like to see some verification on this ad's claims...If it is not true I think the claimant(advertiser) and the publishers who take money to run the ad should be held liable...What do you think???

The picks that I post have already been screened, but if you want to screen them further, that is your choice. I post the weekly results from closing price Friday to the following Friday. Maybe you could pick entry points. My thread specifies that the picks are stocks to explore, I do not offer entry / exit points. I just thought it would be a fitting exercise because Doug compares his picks to IBD often, and my picks are solely taken from IBD. I try to screen for the creme of the IBD crop. It's up to you, but I post the screen results each weekend that I am able to do so.

We'll make it an IBD/Peanuts combo vs IIC/Spike combo competition hehe Winner gets weekly bragging rights lol
For my Parabolic blog (http://spikefader.awardspace.com/parabolicstockpicks/) I have interest in doing filtering for other lists too - maybe the Barcharts 100 (http://www2.barchart.com/sectors.asp?sec=top~100~stocks.sec&level=2&title=Top+100+Stocks) and others that I can dig up that may be worth doing. I'll leave the IBD list alone I think. IIC, what other site ranked lists do you know of?

Why isn't USAP on your list?
Welcome to the Real World Benny...What happened???...Did you visit California over the weekend?...So. Cal has been consistently 1-1.2% above the National CPI for quite some time:
U.S. Federal Reserve (Fed) Chairman Ben Bernanke on Monday called recent increases in inflation unwelcome and pledged to be vigilant against the rising inflation.
Why isn't USAP on your list?

TELL ALL YOUR FRIENDS!!!
I am very pleased to announce that the IIC 100 Top 10 has FINALLY surpassed the IBD 100 Top 10 YTD...
I've been periodically posting the YTD percentage gain you would have this year if you bot all the IIC Top 10 at the open each week and sold them all at the close each week this year.
I've known the IBD percentage all along too...But I vowed not to llet it out till the IIC Top 10 took the lead.
The IIC Top 10 was ahead till February 10th at which time the IBD Top 10 took the lead...UP UNTIL TODAY!!!
Although the IIC Top 10 is down a tad this week(less than 1%)...The IBD Top 10 dropped over 8% the last two days.
So here is the YTD:
IIC TOP 10 +29.90%
IBD TOP 10 +27.40
Let's se if they publish that in tomorrow's IBD!!!
And best of all...You don't have to pay an arm and a leg and a heart transplant for the IIC 100...Heck...It's FREE.

Great accomplishment! Besides, they use all their ANAlysts to come up the list. I'd rather have my arms and legs in tact, definitely not risking a heart transplant.

Doug, I'm curious: when you say you can't copy your posts, what method are you attempting to use? The right click, pop-up menu? As far as I know, the CTRL-C key combination works almost universally in Windows apps.
On the other hand, I have discovered that sometimes the CTRL-V key combination (paste) sometimes doesn't work in these WYSIWYG edit windows, and sometimes it does. Whenever it doesn't, though, I can still still right-click and choose Paste from the pop-up menu.

Well...I see CTRL V works...it happened so fast that it copied multiple times in a nano-second...Well that shouldn't happen either. You need better control than that. You might need to go into your Control Panel, open the Keyboard control, and reduce the repeat rate.

http://stockcharts.com/h-sc/ui?s=GE&p=D&yr=3&mn=0&dy=0&id=p36897684748
I think that GE is headed south. Sure the chart shows that it is working on an ascending triangle, but it has done that several times before and broke South every time the last 10 years. No, it is a coming short, imho.

Knives were up sharply.
Cows steered into a bull market.
Pencils lost a few points.
Hiking equipment was trailing.
Elevators rose, while escalators continued their slow decline.
Weights were up in heavy trading.
Light switches were off.
Mining equipment hit rock bottom.
Diapers remained unchanged.
Shipping lines stayed at an even keel.
The market for raisins dried up.

Stanley Tools filed for Chapter 11.
And batteries exploded in an attempt to recharge the market.
I heard also that autos crashed while airlines were flying. Baking soda and vinegar continued showing volatility. TV's and radios are trading in a channel; the volume was very low on amplifiers. And railroads are a good momentum play, especially when they're going downhill.

OK Peanuts...Ya got me to thinkin'...When was it???
So I'm scatchin' my head and all of a sudden I came up with a brainstorm...Here is a site that allows you to figure it out:
http://unicorn.us.com/advdec/
Formula is simple...Just take A-D=? Add up ? for 30 days and divide by 30...That will give you the average...If it is below -300 on the issues...it means we are oversold...Can use the same principle on vol. using 45 as OS.
I prefer to use 5/10/12 days...But that's because I normally have a short term outlook...Doug(IIC)
PS: Believe it or not I used to track the 5/10/12 in .xls using this site years ago...Until I found the charts.

Oop's...I screwed up...up don't divide by 30...you just add them all up...some will be positive and some will be negative.
Then on the 31st trading day you delete the first day and include the 31st day...you do that day after day and plot the line...Doug

Thanks Doug. It's too bad that there isn't an easy way to look back at the history of the trend line. Is there a place, in your infinite wisdom, that tracks the A/D number over time?
Also, this works well on the overall market- what about individual stocks? How good is the indicator short term and long term?
You're so smart.

I don't think it is so great long term...I seem to remember an article in Tech Analysis Of Stocks and Commodities that showed the long term A/D is not all that helpful.
As far as individual stocks...I don't see the A/D applying all that much...Could use the Up/Down indicator I guess...Doug

Doug,
I notice electricity is one of the few showing a positive for all time increments , although not a large one. Gas , oil , coal have all had a nice run and electricity is overdue for a big move. In my area , heating an all electric house was cheaper this winter than gas or oil. That's the first time in memory it's happened. If this is true how do we figure the best play ? Will it be the electric producers , suppliers , equipment manufacturers ? I'll have to do some homework on this. Thanks for the interesting list.

I really don't know...But the normal way to produce electricity is by burning natural gas to run turbines...you can also run them on diesel fuel. As alternatives you can create electricity via solar, water and wind...I even took a nice tour of the old San Onofre Nuclear Power Plant in the 80's.
I have always thought of utilities as defensive...almost as much as food...But times change.
For example...My Grandfather was a stock broker...He died 22 years before my Grandmother...She lived on mostly dividends from utility stocks they owned for those years...But like I said...times change...Doug
Edit PS...I still think the cos. that supply the equip. are the best bets...Remember the California Gold Rush circa 1849...How many of the miners made it???...Not many...Who made out???...The guys who sold picks, pans and shovels...Because they all needed them.
Watching me eat chicken is very exciting....

Doug, you forgot to mention Coal fired Power plants.... Southwestern VA is only "two hoots and a holler" away from West VA coal country.... The coal industry is pretty hot right now.... I know this because my company supplies parts to two West VA based coal mining machinery manufacturers.... We also manufacture/supply Trackwork Components to the Railway industry. Both sectors of my business are booming (and growing).... The Railroads benifit as they haul the coal to the Power Plants.
My dad owns a ton of PGN and DUK stock.... He retired from CPL which was later bought out by PGN.
How about these industry groups?:
Railroads
Suppliers to Railroads
Coal producers
Mining Machinery mfgr's
Electric Utilities
Now we need some tickers to investigate.

Un-Freakin' Believable
After seeing the hits IFO and GIGM took this past week, I was sure the IIC Top 10 would drop below the IBD Top 10 YTD...I didn't even wanna look.
But it didn't happen...I'm not the one who tracks the YTD performance...A good guy at another forum does it along w/ some other lists.
Well...He just sent me the standings...The IIC Top 10 is still ahead +17.19% vs. +13.64% YTD.
This assumes that you bot all of the Top 10's at the open on the first trading day of each week and sold them all at the close of the last trading day each week this year.
IBD's high this year was +45.67% and the IIC high was +34.45% both at the close on Cinco de Mayo.
Been a rough time for both lists since then...But the IIC Top 10 has been ahead since a week ago last Tuesday.
Just goes to show you though, that it has not been a good 6 weeks for us MoMo People...Best...Doug(IIC)

In other words, holding them through the weekends as well?
Doug, do you ever calculate the gains based on holding the individual stocks until they drop from the top 10? In other words, holding them through the weekends as well?
No...as a matter of fact I don't do any tracking. A guy at another forum which I dropped out of several months ago does the tracking...But it is a good idea...Thanks for volunteering...You can find every IIC 100 list back to the beginning at http://MrBreakout.com

Doug,
I'm a slow learner and would like to make a fortune from the IIC 100 or top 10 . Can you tell me again what would be the major difference between your list and IBD's ? For example can you tell me why any 1 specific IBD stock wouldn't qualify for yours. Thanks.

Billy...Unfortunately I don't know the criteria that IBD uses. One thing though...It appears that they do not include stocks under $15...This week, 31 of of the IIC 100 are under $15.
Also, I don't use an EPS percentile ranking...In fact I don't even have a program to calculate EPS percentile. However, I do have min. criteria on the latest quarter EPS increase and I use EPS projections. Apparently IBD does not use projections...Or if they do they are not heavily weighted.
That is the reason that ERS never appeared on the IIC 100...I could not find any projections...Now, maybe IBD could if they even use them???
Of course I do not have access to all the data that IBD does...But then again...I don't pay for the data I use to create the IIC 100...It pays to have nice friends.
Now...I'm not suggesting that the IIC 100 are by any means all good stocks...But they meet some minimum fundamental criteria...Best thin to do is check to see which one(s) are technically ready to move...And even though Spike picked a bad week to start analyzing the IIC 100...His analyses should be quite helpful in that respect over the long run...Click IIC Filter below in my signature for Spikes Blog...Best, Doug(IIC)

Doug,
I think IBD does use earnings projections in their under 10.00 category. They have columns that can be sorted in descending rank for last quarter eps % change , next quarter eps % change , and annual eps % change . They don't really explain it and I don't think they rank over 10.00 stocks that way , but then they're so secretive they do themselves more harm than good.

As a matter of fact they do if they are available...If they are not available I don't use them for the IIC 100 at all....But they still list stocks w/o projections...So they must not put a whole lot of weight on them IMO.
I have a question...How do you know that?...I thought you didn't subscribe?
Now...Is it possible that they started to use that on their under $10 list because I do???...They may have had their IBD 100 list before I had the IIC 100 List...But the IIC Top $10 Under $10 has been around longer than the IBD Top Rated Under $10 List.

A lot sites had it wrong. But if anyone owned it and didn't know it had split I would think that they would check the news before they sold...Heck, they would have thought they were down 50% at the open...How much more could they have thought they were going to lose in the time it would take to check?

I was watching OMNI yesterday. Looks like it's up .11 premarket. Poorman placed into his model recently plus the VTP indicators are positive.
MED has bounced back to Monday's opening price.
As of about 2:30 this afternoon, Doug's Top Ten are showing an average gain of 2.66%. Most impressive, considering what a sucker Doug is. The only two in the red are MED and IFO. EZPW has taken the lead with a gain of 9.94%.

Doug,

A lot, I think the term Hedge Fund is a bit hazy though...at least in my mind.
One thing to consider is the amount of money in 401k type plans...At one time only very large cos. had these types of plans...But with the advent of the Cookie Cutter plans in the 90's it allowed smaller cos. to easily have such plans...That has brought a lot of money into the markets too....Doug(IIC)
FWIW...Just looked at some past results:
The IBD Top 10 was green this week...the previous 6 weeks it was only green 2x.
The IIC Top 10 was green this week...the previous 6 weeks it was only green 1x.
In the 8 weeks leading up to Friday May 5th the IBD Top 10 was green 7x and the IIC Top 10 was green all 8x.
Interesting to note though that on May 5th the IBD Top 10 was +45% and the IIC Top 10 was +35%....Now it is IIC +23% and IBD +20% YTD.
When I first started the IIC 100 a couple of years ago it was an attempt to figure out the IBD 100 criteria...Didn't ever figure it out and yes, there are some major differences; e.g. IIC 100 accepts stocks which are under $15 (Usually 20-30% on the list are) etc...But it appears that we are both looking at the same type of stocks.
During the day when I check the lists they are invariably mostly green or red on both lists...Doug(IIC)

have a friend he and I thought he and I would give It a try. I really appreciate your reply.
I didn't explain the WHY...
These guys certainly do a lot of advertising...Barron's, IBD etc...Full pages too...Big Bux...Anyway, they periodically offer a free week which I have taken advantage of several times. I also downloaded all their pix/results going way back...Unfortunately I recentley deleted them...But if I find them again I will let you know.
Near the end of last year and during the first couple of months this year I know a few who subscribed...They raved about how great it was...But didn't everybody do great during that time frame?
Those people started regretting the $$$ spent along about the end of March...Well, my fortunes didn't start going in reverse till mid May.
I never really took the time to analyze the whole Gorilla system....But think about this...What if I told you to Buy any IIC Top 10 stock if it goes up at least 1% on at least 1.5x ADV...Think you'd do well? I think so...Same concept IMO.
Best, Doug(IIC)
Well...I've certainly got egg on my face...Maybe Homer and Rob are right...I'm just a Sucker...
All year I've been saying that the IIC vs. IBD race was based on buying 1 share of each of the Top 10's at the open on the first day of the trading week and selling at the close on the last trading day of the week.
Now, I'm not the one who tracks the results...But when I saw Rob's post about the IIC Home Version I said to myself..."IIC...Are you some kind of sucker?...That's not what this other guy says for last week"
So I snapped a pic this morning of Rob's post and sent it to this guy who tracks it...Ends up that he doesn't track 'em that way.
He takes the close on Friday to the close on the following Friday if they were on last week's list...He uses the open on Monday only if it is a stock that is added to the lists...He uses equal $$$ amounts rather than 1 share each and he deducts $.01 share for each share necessary on each of the 10 stocks on each list.
What a sucker I've been for 6 months...LOL
I'm very sorry about this...But we can all thank Rob for raining on my parade...But, at least the guy is comparing the two lists Apples For Apples...So I'm still winning YTD..."Lil Sucker IIC"

lol ain't that life; sucker punched when ya least expect it.
Oh, and hey! one must be careful with only recording 1 share. It's not very accurate. Try it. Same entry points, equal set dollar amount invested (share number will be different for each stock right) and then try it for each stock only 1 share. The % figures aren't even close.

no it won't. they release "key financial data" quarterly, which is basically only what they want to release. they'll likely tell you how much money CECT is making, but not XING proper.
they are, however working towards improving the transparency, and will (hopefully) start giving better quarterly data (including EPS) in Q3 this year.
I expect the stock to stay in this range or even drop after a very rosy report today. but you never know, and I've quit guessing, so I'm just holding my 2% until the cows come home on this one.
