An egg company, I love it!
I got in on this one on 11/10/03 at a price of 14.88. It's an interesting stock in that it's the leader in the sector and the Adkins diet I'm sure is helping boost the demand on eggs. Their earnings potential seems great. Today it's made a nice upward move (more than 15 percent). It still looks like this one has room to go up, but do your own research before buying in.

Cal-Maine terminates plan to go private
Thursday November 6, 2:57 pm ET
NEW YORK, Nov 6 (Reuters) - Egg company Cal-Maine Foods Inc.
(NasdaqNM:CALM - News) said on Thursday its board voted to terminate
its previously announced going private transaction.
The current unanticipated level of egg prices, which are at near
record highs, and recent increases in the price and activity in the
company's common stock make it extremely difficult to establish a
share price that would be to fair all parties, the company said.
Cal-Maine is primarily engaged in the production, grading, packing
and sale of fresh shell eggs, and is the largest producer and
distributor of fresh shell eggs in the U.S.
Shares of Cal-Maine were halted at $10.62, up 7.7 percent on Nasdaq.

No analyst coverage to screw things up.
Volume starting to come into this stock, as it gets discovered.
They claim in supertraders that eggs prices are benefitting from the
atkins' diet craze.

now thats a hot pick
Impressive day for CALM today (up almost 2 dollars and 10 percent). Hopefully this egg company keeps going up. Anyone else in on this and if so what is your target?
Vish
This one is on fire; right now it's up close to 10 percent for the day.

Vish,
I have been in and out of this one with some very nice gains. Have any thoughts or opinions on where the top might be. Some of the charts I look at looks like it could be headed down, but it just has so much momentum and the whole adkins thing is huge in this country. Nice call and thanks for the heads up on this one.

I really am not sure how long I will hold on to this one. BUT...all I know is that when I do get lucky enough to be able to buy this type of stock I almost always sell too early. My new rule of thumb is don't sell it until you can find something BETTER to invest in. My honest analysis seems to indicate that this stock still has some room to go. Apparently it was mentioned today in IBD. There is still no analyst coverage and volume is really starting to pick up (indicating probable interest by institutions).
I really have no "target" price that I will sell at. I probably will just wait around and see what happens. Earnings are coming out on Dec 19th and all indications seem to point to good things ahead. Take a look at the message board on yahoo for this stock; it's one of the few that seems to be filled with some very intelligent posts. People there are indicating that 6 dollars a share in earnings is not out of line. If that's the case, I see myself holding on for the ride. We'll see I guess.

Vish,
I got in at 24.55. This thing is going crazy, some are saying poss. earnings leak!? This is going to be a great xmas. What are your thoughts on the Flu vaccine shortage. They say it takes 4 months to make it. Do you think this will have a positive impact on CALM.

As far as the flu vaccine shortage goes, I think it would be a benefit to CALM. The only problem is that it would NOT be of benefit until later on in 2004. It's too late now to begin making the vaccine for this season. It takes one egg to make one dose of flu vaccine. There is a company right now trying to make an egg-less flu vaccine, but it looks like it's years away. See the following link:
http://www.intelihealth.com/IH/ihtIH/WSIHW000/333/21291/372741.html
As far as the stock goes, I'm just holding for now. I think it will probably pull back soon though (it's overdue).

I entered it when it was 13.2, Out at 18.6, in again at 19.3, out at 18.x in again at 22.5 out at 23.9, in again at 25.1 and 25.75.
I should buy and hold.
This stock has more potential, seems to be an EPS winner. JMHO.
Somebody say that it will be entered CANSLIM or IBD100 list, any positive effect ?

Wow....up another 7 percent today. Incredible. The company was added to the IBD 100 (at number 52 I believe) and I think we are seeing the positive impact of this today. I'm still holding from my buy of 14.88 (see earlier post from Nov 13th). I'm hoping to squeeze a little bit more out of this one but don't want to get too greedy.
Vish
Hey everyone,
Good luck to all who bought in on this one. I've decided to sit this one out (for now). I sold my position today at 27.68 (bought in at 14.88 on 11/10). That's 86 percent in a month. I'll consider re-entry if it dips some more.

Has anyone ever eaten a "bullseye"? You take a slice of bread, rip out a hole in the middle, throw it in a frying pan than break an egg in the hole. Let it cook and flip it over. Yum!

I was very tempted by the recent drop in this stock price. I decided to get back in on this one today by buying some at 29.93 right at the close. Tomorrow is earnings and my guess is that news will be good.

Close::: throw a couple of pieces of bread in the toaster, when they pop throw them on a plate, take a small glass, turn it upsided down and use it to cut the hole in to the bread, then throw a couple poached eggs into the hole. Thats my Grandmothers version of a bullseye.

Read about MGPI on Lizard's stock board on Monday. It had a great day today, up 16% to a new closing high. This is another play on the Atkin's diet ... they supply low carb flour to the baking industry. You may want to check it out.

Hope you guys are still in on this one like me (see previous posts). After going up over 4.50 yesterday they announced a 2 for 1 stock split with the dividend per share being the same (thus doubling the dividend). Up over 2 dollars a share in pre-market trading.

Stock split -- 2:1. The reading of the entrails shows it broke out of its rectangular base/tight trading range on good volume, but still less than its average daily volume. The rectangle was about 5.75 high so with the resistance line around 34.25, the calculated target price is around 40.

I tend to disagree; I think that this is STILL a good investment. Great earnings with very low PE and a product (eggs) that is being used in increasing amounts b/c of the Atkins diet. I could even see this as a future Mr. Market pick! Plus, stock split coming and the dividend increased by 100 percent. I thought I sold it at a good price back around 27. I was wrong and re-entered at 30. Today it's up over 5 bucks and I don't think the ride is over--yet.
Vish
As Ernie would say...earnings, earnings, earnings. Check out what this one will do today. They reported 1.95 for the quarter and 1.45 for last quarter. Great PE for this company. As mentioned in my earlier posts, I don't think the ride is over for this egg company.

I was looking at this stock today and was tempted to buy some in and around 32 if it makes it there. I don't really see demand for eggs dropping anytime soon. Can somebody who has been following this more closely than I offer their opinion of where this thing stands?
I've had a nice little run-up with DKS the past 2 weeks and am looking to take some profits there and perhaps ride CALM back up to 40.

I sold at $40 and not regretting, this stock is overpriced and when the market slips so will it too. Unless some awesome news comes out this one will slowly decline. Plus this bird flew that is popping up all over the world, for example they ordered to kill all birds in B.C Canada becuase of it.. Its the next mad cow...Im not saying its a reason to freak out but this flews are hard to stop.

King,
I took a postion last week when the stock dropped into the 11 area. Stock seems cheap on a valuation basis. Hopefully it will work it's way higher once the market gets over it's case of interest rate jitters.
