The results of this poll are very discouraging...first of all only 30 out of 403 members voted.
Second...only 1 person said they joined because a friend told them about it...I thought we were going to spread the word?? Are you people keeping $$$MR. MARKET$$$ as your little secret?
I've also noticed a lot of $$$MR. MARKET$$$ posts on IBD forum. Have any of you joined here from that forum?

I don't think that unprovoked comment was very nice. You may be mistaking the Huge One's sense of humor for conceit, a common internet message board phenomenom. I am sure that in real life, the Huge One is ratrher humble. He seems to be a good family man from his pictures.

Yeah MM,
Now you know what a double standard is
I was actually planning to write a defense of your style on IBD (more IBDU.com now where the crowd has moved after going thru the "excellent" service IBD website provides), saying things like "MM has a sense of humor" "free speech", "check out his record" etc, but then I figured they are all lurking here, possibly because they don't want to share their newly minted knowledge with their best friends at IBD !
Obviously the CANSLIM thing isn't working in this market, judging from IBD postings.
So take this as a compliment. At least you don't have to take the trouble of double posting on IBD sites.

Sorry, I can't remember if I voted the day after T-Giving when I joined...But a friend turned me onto Mr. Market at Yahoo back about a yr and a half ago...I joined...made a few posts and that's about it...however, I'm pretty well informed (actually...you could say I'm a busybody) and I did come in here as a guest a few times to read the posts. On T-Giving I got an email invite from Ernie himself...so I took him up on it.
Even though my style is basically Mo-Mo...a lot of in and out...I figure that there are a number of ways to do well in the market and Ernie and a lot of you have some helpful ideas. I'm a 20yr+ Canslimmer who started making adjustments in mid 2000...mainly because I don't think CS takes the NEW Volatility into account...it's really not all that new...4+ yrs. I'm always open to new ideas...but I've learned one thing on the net after 7 yrs...Make changes slowly.
Anyway, Glad I joined...I've already made some new friends here...Best To All...IIC

has anyone participated in this poll? Does anyone want to share a favorite $$$MR. MARKET$$$ story with the group?
I too found Mr. Market on the IBD site. I was amazed at the negative reaction to his postings, particularly considering the great advices that went with them. Interestingly, I submitted a posting defending Ernie which appeared briefly, and was subsequently "edited" (read "deleted"). Go figure!
On another front, two of Mr. Markets recommendations are receiving some promenence. (1) HELE which Mr. Market bought in 3Q03 is recommended in Value Line's top portfolio. It is currently making a serious move. (2) CFC which Mr. Market purchased in 4Q03 was recommended by Laszlo Birinyi in his 2004 portfolio on Louis Rukeyser's TV show. Birinyi had the best performing portfolio in 2003, averaging 65.66% gains.
I first discovered $$$Mr. Market$$$ on a Yahoo message board for a stock I had just purchased. This was back in the Spring of 2001. I had, through my own independent research, decided that this stock was going higher, and I bought a bunch of it. Then I went to the message board on Yahoo to see what other people were saying about it, and I saw a post by $$$Mr. Market$$$. I think his profile had a link to his message board, which was at that time on the Motley Fool web site. So I've been more-or-less quietly following along since that time. I guess it's almost three years now.

i read some of mr.markets posts on ibd and quite honestly couldnot believe some of his claims. i noticed that many people were quite upset at his post and were writing some rather nasty replies. i decided to check further and much to my surprise discovered that MM puts his money where his mouth is. he is very upfront with his system, although i do admit i do not fully understand it. but most of all he gives an excellent analysis of why he bought a particular stock. he has proved, beyond any doubt, that he knows his stuff. you may not like his presentation but you have to respect and admire his knowledge and expertise. i also see someone who is his own person and very secure in who and what he is. MM God bless and the very best to you and your family. i personally hope to continue learning from your analysis and knowledge of the stock market. blakerj1

I found MM on an AOL stock message board last year and have followed him off and on since. I bought some stocks last year but lost because I also follow IBD 7-8% lost rule. Those stocks (AVD,MDC, FRED) not only came back to make 15% but a hell of a lot more. Yes, EARNINGs rule!!! In December I went with MM on CFC,KSWS,BEL, and URBN(late). Happy to say I sold KSWS for 15+%. I held on URBN this morning and I wanted to sell CFC but stuck with it as well. I plan on keeping 6-7 MM picks in my portfolio, I only have 3 now, cant wait for the next dump. I should have got into DHI, like the comeback it had.
Thanks MM!!!

well, I first saw Mr. Market on the Yahoo! boards, first on IART, then on NFI. IART was in his top 100 or 200 stocks, and NFI became his pick of the day. I had purchased both of these stocks, because there was something I liked about both of them, and I thought- this guy's on the same page as I am. So I went to the site to check it out, and really liked what I saw.
Ernie, your research is excellent, and I completely understand the screens you're using, and if I had the time to research the market like you do, I'd do it exactly the same way. But I don't, so that's why I really appreciate the research you do for us. I especially like this method because it's easy to follow your picks, simply by buying the stock, and holding until the target is reached. It's also a blast to read your stories, and the input from the rest of the group- even those who offer their 'differing' points of view. But you keep it real, despite all the flames, and whatnot- a true class act.
You are AWESOME, $$MM, keep it up!

I found out about $$$MM$$$ from the IBD website. There seems to be many IBD subscribers who want to discount $$$MM$$$'s stock-picking methods. (I'm not sure why though.)
Anyway, I figured I'd check out his site, and I'm glad I did. I hold positions in DRAX and HZO presently, I picked these 2 stocks before I learned about $$$MM$$$. I see that he bought HZO, and DRAX is in the latest data dump.

From personal experience, the percentage voting in your poll is much higher than those who claim an interest in their investments, and those who actively take an interest in them. This is true in an investment clib I started in 2003, and the local IBD Meetup meetings that I have attended. You are once again breaking the bank with a high turnout. Way to go Mr. Market!

I found your site through your posts on the IBD forum. I just joined your site yesterday but am already enjoying the fruits of your PDX analysis.
My only question is - Why do you offer so much for free? The one thing I remember from my college Economics course was "There's no such thing as a free lunch" I would have remembered more from Economics but I went to a state university in Wisconsin (lots of beer)

I'm really not offering anything. I'm doing the analysis for my own account and just feel like sharing it. Let me ask you this question...why wouldn't I want to offer this for free?
P.S. I was kind of hoping someone would want my Yankees / Red Sox tickets. I only have one bid so far on Ebay and someone looks like they are going to get them for $0.01.

Thanks...I'm glad someone from IBD feels that way. There seems to be a lot of doubting Thomas's over there. People who doubt the sincerity of someone's generousity usually aren't very generous themselves. It seems like every time I post on IBD, all I get is crap from the members over there.

I had the great fortune of finding Mr. Markets posts on IBD. His profound, unique, and potentially profitable ideas caught my attention. Being the highly intelligent person I am, I decided to come here and learn more from Mr. Markets obviously higher intelligence.
Yes it hurts my pride to admit that Mr. Market is greater than myself, but I feel I must if I want to reach my important goal of retiring in less than 5 years with at least $20,000,000 in my trading account. I don't feel as if I can reach my goal by blindly following IBD's principles alone. As a matter of fact, I will not blindly follow Mr. Markets trades either, But I will follow a large majority of them and will learn from him and bring him the finest meats and cheeses for his generousity and kindness in allowing me to learn from his superior methods.
Yes IBD is fine, but Mr. Market makes more money. Mr. Market makes BUKU BUCKS!!!! MUCHO DENARO!!! MEGA MILLIONS!!!! HE'S AWSOME!!! HE'S AMAZING!!! HE's... am I overdoing it??? naa..
Thankyou Mr. Market!!!! Thankyou!!!
I will buy you the best meats and cheeses from Europe and other such places when I become wealthy beyond my wildest dreams. And I will be rich!!!...because of your generosity...HA HA HA!!!

Well, Mr. Market, we "met" online somehow a few years ago when you were in your mid thirties of successful trades. Don't recall how it happened. Perhaps it was as a result of the INVN message board or some other defense stock that was heavy at the time. Anyway, we emailed about stocks, your hometown site and your method of analysis. I was too green to understand much of it at the time. I sent you a picture taken in St. Thomas on my then recent honeymoon. Do you remember? Anyway, new marriage, old computer, problems and subsequent crash (computer not the marriage) and we lost touch. Also, I made tons and tons of mistakes in trading and lost alot of money and shied away for awhile .
I've been back now for awhile. apparently, sticking my foot in it from time to time, unintentionally, of course. I find your site extremely valuable and I'm amazed at how it's grown. The level of expertise and diversity of methods is like manna from heaven to this still green gray matter of mine. I love both the fundamentalists and the technical analysts. And I appreciate the people with the moxi to ask each other what they are holding, as I quickly write these down and research them myself. I can't thank you enough for this site and for all that I am learning from the unselfish people who give so much of their time on it.
(I can hear you now, "oh sure you can, go ahead, thank me again and again." <grin>) by the way, I like your sense of humor, even if it does get a little 'male' at times.
Somewhere you asked for a suggestion if anyone had one. Well, how about at thread called the "wading pool?" Sort of like a baby pool for those who find themselves over their heads from time to time. This would be a safe place for people to go and post embarrasingly simple questions that would frustrate the life out of the more seasoned traders on the other threads but would help the young'uns catch their breaths and get a better grasp of the game. The option to help with a response would be open to anyone with a heart and an answer. Admittedly, I would be posting from time to time. (with goober questions, i'm afraid, not the answers.....sigh.....) Anyway, there you have it. My history with $MM$, and my .02 cents of input.
Margie
Margie...Your Wading Pool Thread is a pretty good idea. I think many people are embarrassed to ask questions. I may not be the most savvy trader in this club...but I like it when people ask me questions on my thread...I always say..."The smartest people ask the most questions"
Why don't you start the Wading Pool thread?...Best, IIC

I can't believe I haven't answered this yet. It was probably a year ago, I was on the yahoo messageboards, the DHI one, I was brand new to investing, and was reading what people had to say on the stock I had bought a few weeks earlier. I came upon a post by someone talking about a guy calling himself MrMarket, who claimed an incredible streak of winning stocks. Curious, I followed a like and this is where I ended up. I read a lot of the board before becoming a member, and I've been visiting it pretty much every day and have learned a lot.

I found your thread while perusing the IBD forum about 8 months ago. Your name stood out mainly because of the flashy ego and humor that went along with the stock picking. Being an Eagles fan I believe you are the Terrell Owens of the stock world - flamboyance backed up by a proven record.
I've almost forgotten all about CANSLIM since seeing the performance of your latest picks. "Keep it real" Mr. Market! My only critique about the website is that you stick with the family photos, I have to keep telling people that look over my shoulder that I'm not on a gay porn site. Cheers.

Please pick the selection that represents your earliest encounter with $$$MR. MARKET$$$.
I love your bigger than life ego. I like your confidence. I like your picks. I like your reasoning that goes with your picks. Yes, you have some in your portfolio that have not produced a profit. But even the best picker, sometimes picks a dog. I bought into your SPF pick lower that your cost, and after it got down to 47 and change failed to buy more and when it came back up again bailed out when I had a $1 profit. So I am an edgy trader, but hope to become more comfortable with the market movements and stick with the winner. Today I have about $8000 in CME -- I am going to ride this one higher. Thanks MR MARKET. You ARE HUGE.

I found out through IBD Forums... Haven't been by lately because you switched software to run your site and I don't find it intuitive at all. Plus a huge "Mr. Market is huge" graphic takes up a gigantic part of each web page. That is just plain bad design. I couldn't figure out how to vote either... I would visit far more often if this site was easier to navigate.

Actually I have never been to the website but I do get e-mails from Mr. Market. We first met several years ago when we both were fairly visitors to a site called Shark. Mr. Market and I had some personal communications at that time and I remained on his mailing list. I tried to access this website on several occasions but for some reason was never successful in getting in to see what is going on??? However, as a courtesy, I am answering the poll question.
Good luck to all,

i found out about mr. market on the ibd forums. i look forward to his posting and stock picks. i spend considerable time in studying his final 5 picks and try to come up with the same conclusion as he does.
i am greatful to mm and the amount of effort he puts into his analysis and recommendations.
thank you for education, time and energy you spend and especially for putting up with a load of crap from so many jerks who do nothing but criticize and complain about him.
thank again and God bless you MM.

I just stumbled onto the site one day.. I was reading aol's site but really hated the B.S that came along with it. I lurked around for a while then finally joined so I could ask some question. To my supprize, I recieved answers immed. What I love about the site is that I can ask questions and not feel silly.
I like the arms on MM but would not want them for myself. I cant say I have made bunches of $$$ but that is because I have little to invest. This too shall change. I have learn more then I bargained for and I love the folks here. I have been able to fine tune my plan with the help of many here. I have dreams of leaning how to buy options, short stocks, etc. I believe I stumble onto a gold mine and plan to become a active member. I must first learn to thank those who take the time to wish me Happy B-day.... I swear, the nerve of some peoples children. THANK YOU IIC
Most of all, some think I look good in a swim suit or should I say watch. For my age that will always be a big Plus.

I I cant say I have made bunches of $$$ but that is because I have little to invest. This too shall change. .
Yes, that will change. I started out about 8 years ago. I was too poor to invest anyhthing as it took all I could do to just pay the bills. My finances were a nightmare.
Then I decided to start contributing a small amount in the tax free investment plan that my employer offers. I started with $20 bi-weekly, which is not very much, but it gave me a start. After seeing the progress I was making, I started getting perked up and raised my deuctions to $50. That lead to $75, then $100, $150, etc.
After a few years I could really see what was happening. I was accumulating wealth. I had started dirt poor, without a dime in the bank, and here I was with a few grand in mutual funds. My enthusiasm grew and I continued investing in mutual funds for the next few years.
After about 5 or so years, my enthusiasm started to wain. I noticed that the funds that I invested in were not really making me much profit. most of my balance was from my contributions and not from actual profits in the market. I was becoming disillusioned. The funds sucked.
Then, a light flashed in my head. What if I took control of my own money? I could do better than those funds did. I thought to myself, "Screw the mutual funds!".
I spent every waking hour pondering the possiblities. I could trade stocks and make a fortune. Yes... I could do it!
I then started making a plan of action. I didn't have time to waste and jumped in head first. Afterall, I was too naive to realize that I could lose my a-- in the market. I was sure that I would prosper.
I went to the book store and bought every book I could find. I read William Oneils and Stan Wiensteins books, plus a few others. Then, I got a subscription to IBD.
So, I opened my account and made my first trade. I bought 50 shares of GES. I sold it a few weeks later for a small profit. I bought a few others and made some more money. Then I bought a few losers, but I cut my losses short.
I actually watched my portfoio shrink for the first half of the year, which was a little discouraging, but Im stubborn. I wouldn't give up. I learned from my mistakes and forged on. Then I watched as my account went from red to black. I was doing it. I was making money. I profited 11% that first year.
Along the way, I obtained my Vulcan identity and stumbled upon Mr Market and his forum through the IBD boards. I also learned that Canslim didn't work so well, but I met many great folks who have helped me become a better trader.
It must have all paid off, because, I closed the year with a 31.5% gain. I don't know of too many mutual funds that did the same.
Since the time that I first started my savings plan, my personal income and contributions to my accounts have increased significanty. I am not as poor as I used to be. I've gotten a little greyer and have become better looking. Live is better than ever. My health is great, i have a great family and my wealth is growing.
Sure, I've had my share of tragedies, but that's all part of life. I'm going to win this game called life. That's what this is. A game. A test. Who wants to improve themselves? Who wants to pass that test? Who has what it takes?
I do!

I joined in September. But it wasn't Ernie's big biceps I need to credit here. It's his beautiful, intelligent wife. She's my cousin. And she was one of those cousins who was the smart one. Most times you dislike "the smart ones" but she was not only smart, she was really really nice growing up and still is. ((Another good pick Ernie!!)) Anyway, I always shied away from investing in the stock market since my family has had zilch luck playing the game, uneducated in its ways. But this past year a windfall due to the sale of a downtown chicago home had me looking around to invest. For the first time in my life, I had some money I could afford to lose. Jeanine hooked me up with Ernie, and haven't lost anything yet. (I'm sure that's coming.) Right now I'm looking at how I can better manage our retirement accounts. Wow, I've come a long way in six months. And I owe it all to MR HUGENESS and his compadres, you senior members who are patient with us juniors. That's my story.

has anyone participated in this poll? Does anyone want to share a favorite $$$MR. MARKET$$$ story with the group?
I was just reviewing this thread, and figured I'd fill everyone in on how I came to $$$Mr. Market's$$$ HUGE Stockpicking Forum:
None of the choices fit the way I was introduced to this site, so I have not voted, yet. I use Yahoo! to do much of my research and portfolio tracking. I had come across the stock, FRGB back in January of 2006. I did the research and came up with what I perceived as a fair value for the company, and it was way off from the pps at that time. I try to not post too much on Yahoo! message boards, but it was my only source of information from other people regarding FRGB, that was easily available. So I made some posts to a user called jan814_1999 who seemed to be well informed, and got back some great information. Ernie had recently made this part of his HUGE portfolio and must have been lurking on the Yahoo board. He sent me a few private messages over Yahoo! Instant Messenger and invited me here after the interaction between jan and I.
LINK to the FRGB board (http://messages.finance.yahoo.com/Stocks_(A_to_Z)/Stocks_F/messagesview?bn=7276&off=81&ri=102&dir=f&n=TuzwRy9OTZvpuZICB0NkQg--)
So there you go, you can blame Ernie for my presense here... he found me!
Hey Ernie, it's been a great year! Thanks for the invite. You are $$$HUGE$$$ :)
